January 2020 Scholarships

Attending college can be quite expensive for students and their families. Luckily, there are many college scholarships and contests available to help pay for a college education. Students should seek out and apply for scholarships in which they meet the eligibility requirements. Below are a handful of scholarships with January 2020 due dates. Check out the full list of January Scholarships – there are currently over 100 scholarships on the list! More scholarships will be added as they become available.

MIT THINK Scholars Program
Sponsor: MIT THINK
Amount: $1,000 budget, chance to win $500 scholarship, mentorship, and a trip to MIT
Closing Date: January 1, 2020
Description: Applicant must be a current high school student at a school in the United States. Applicant must submit a project proposal on a science, technology or engineering idea.

Foot Locker Scholar Athletes Program
Sponsor: Foot Locker Foundation, Inc.
Amount: $20,000
Closing Date: January 3, 2020
Description: Scholarship is open to U.S. students who are currently involved in high school sports, intramural sports, or community-based sports. Applicant must be entering college in fall 2020 as a freshman at a four-year school for an undergraduate degree.

GE – Reagan Foundation Scholarship Program
Sponsor: Ronald Reagan Presidential Foundation & Institute and GE
Amount: $10,000
Closing Date: January 3, 2020
Description: Scholarship is open to high school seniors who demonstrate leadership, drive, integrity, and citizenship at school, at the workplace, and in the community. Applicant must also demonstrate financial need.

National Don’t Wait to Reach Your Potential Scholarship
Sponsor: Potential Magazine
Amount: $500
Closing Date: January 4, 2020
Description: Scholarship is open to college-bound teens in 9th-12th grades in the U.S. Students need to sign up for Potential Magazine’s free weekly eNewsletter and they will automatically be entered to win the scholarship.

Young Filmmakers Contest
Sponsor: One Earth Film Festival
Amount: Up to $1,000
Closing Date: January 5, 2020
Description: Contest is open to students in grades 3 through college (ages 8 and up) from the United States. Student must create a film on one of many given topics related to the Earth.

Jack Kent Cooke Young Artist Award
Sponsor: From the Top
Amount: Up to $10,000
Closing Date: January 6, 2020
Description: Award is open to classical instrumentalists, vocalists, and composers between the ages of 8 and 18 who have not yet entered college during the 2019-2020 academic year. This is the second deadline. Deadline III is March 2, 2020.

Leaders Save Lives Scholarship Program
Sponsor: American Red Cross
Amount: Up to $2,500
Closing Date: January 15, 2020
Description: Scholarship is open to all high school and college students. Applicant must host an American Red Cross blood drive between December 15, 2019 and January 15, 2020.

Center for Alcohol Policy Essay Contest
Sponsor: Center for Alcohol Policy (CAP)
Amount: Up to $5,000
Closing Date: January 17, 2020
Description: Contest is open to persons over the age of 18 as of December 2019. Applicant must submit an essay on a given topic to a Supreme Court case related to an alcohol policy.

Profile in Courage Essay Contest
Sponsor: John F. Kennedy Presidential Library and Museum
Amount: Up to $10,000
Closing Date: January 17, 2020
Description: Contest is open to United States high school students in grades nine through twelve. Applicant must submit an essay on a given topic related to an act of political courage.

C-SPAN’s StudentCam Documentary Competition
Sponsor: C-SPAN
Amount: Varies
Closing Date: January 20, 2020
Description: Competition is open to students in grades 6-12. Student must create a short documentary video on “What’s Your Vision in 2020?”

Girls Impact the World Film Festival Scholarship

Amount: Up to $5,000

Description: Scholarship is open to high school students and college undergraduates who are under the age of 25. Applicant must submit a 3-6 minute short film that raises awareness about critical issues affecting women and girls around the world OR propose solutions t

Elie Wiesel Prize in Ethics Essay Contest

Amount: Up to $5,000
Closing Date: January 21, 2020
Description: Contest is open to registered undergraduate full-time juniors and seniors at accredited four-year colleges and universities in the United States. Applicant must submit an essay on a given topic related to an ethical issue.

Hamilton Award
Sponsor: Alexander Hamilton Scholars
Amount: $500
Closing Date: January 29, 2020
Description: Award is open to high school juniors who are college bound with a strong record of community service and academic achievement. Student must have financial and/or personal need.

Opportunity Scholarship for Locked-Out Dreamers
Sponsor: TheDream.US
Amount: Up to $80,000 over four years
Closing Date: January 30, 2020
Description: Scholarship is open to graduating high school seniors and high school graduates who live in targeted, locked-out states that do not offer in-state tuition to DREAMers, or bars them from attending state colleges and universities all together.
