Study Abroad Scholarships

Studying abroad is an excellent opportunity to explore the world and learn about new cultures while continuing your education. Here are scholarships open to studying who will be studying abroad.

Geiger Scholarship
Sponsor: Island Institute
Amount: Up to $10,000
Closing Date: November 30, 2017
Description: Scholarships are open to students in 6th grade or above who have Island residency on one of Maine’s 15 year-round, un-bridged islands. Middle school scholarships are for students attending off-island enrichment or travel programs, including summer camps. High school scholarships are for students attending a semester enrichment program or attending an off-island summer camp, travel, or enrichment program. College scholarships are for semester or summer study abroad programs. There is also a scholarship for students enrolled in a gap year program between high school and post-secondary education.

Ashley Soule Conroy Foundation Scholarship
Sponsor: Ashley Soule Conroy Foundation
Amount: $3,000
Closing Date: December 1, 2017
Description: Scholarship is open to students currently enrolled as an undergraduate student at a four-year college or university in the United States. Applicant must be planning to participate in full-time study abroad for at least one full semester outside of the United States.

API Study Abroad and Intern Abroad Scholarships

Closing Date: December 15, 2017
Description: Scholarships are open to API program participants. There are multiple scholarships with specific requirements – see website for details. In addition to general scholarships, there are scholarships specifically open to community college students, military veterans, non-traditional students, students with disabilities, minority students, LGBTQ students, STEM majors, and student athletes.

Tortuga Study Abroad Scholarship

Amount: $1,000
Closing Date: December 20, 2017
Description: Scholarship is open to U.S. citizens, permanent residents, and students in the U.S. on a student visa. Applicant must be a full-time undergraduate student who has applied to or been accepted into a study abroad program eligible for credit by their college or university. Applicant must submit an essay on what they would like to learn from other cultures.

Intern & Volunteer Abroad Scholarship Essay Contest
Sponsor: StudyAbroad.com
Amount: $500
Closing Date: December 31, 2017
Description: Scholarship is open to legal residents of the 50 United States and the District of Columbia who are 18 years of age or older at the time of application and who are currently enrolled (or will enroll no later than the fall of 2018) in an accredited post-secondary institution of higher learning. Applicant must submit a short essay on volunteering abroad.

Fund for Education Abroad Scholarship
Sponsor: Fund for Education Abroad
Amount: Up to $10,000
Closing Date: January 10, 2018
Description: Scholarship is open to U.S. citizens and permanent residents who are currently enrolled as an undergraduate at a college or university in the U.S. Applicant must be planning to study abroad and program must be eligible for credit at the student’s educational institution.

ACIS Travel is Education Scholarship

Amount: Up to $1,000
Closing Date: January 31, 2018
Description: Scholarship is open to students in grades 6 through 12 traveling on an ACIS tour from October 15, 2017 through October 14, 2018.

GoEuro European Study Abroad Scholarship

Amount: Up to €2,000
Closing Date: January 31, 2018
Description: Scholarship is open to current college students who will be studying abroad in Europe and enrolled at institutes on the GoEuro scholarship website.

Boren Scholarship
Sponsor: Boren Awards for International Study
Amount: Up to $20,000
Closing Date: February 8, 2018
Description: Scholarship is open to U.S. undergraduate students to study less commonly taught languages in world regions critical to U.S. interests, and underrepresented in study abroad, including Africa, Asian, Central and Eastern Europe, Euasia, Latin America, and the Middle East.
