Scholarships for parents

If you are a parent, paying for college may be difficult. Some scholarship providers want to help parents (single parents and parents that are still together) attend college by providing scholarship. Below are scholarships open to parents.

Working Parent College Scholarship

Description: Scholarship is open to full and part-time students at an accredited U.S. post-secondary educational institution who is a residential parent of at least one minor child and has worked an average of at least 12 hours for each of the previous four weeks at the time of applying.

Hana Lima Scholarship

Closing Date: August 31, 2017
Description: Scholarship is open to students of Native Hawaiian Ancestry who are residents of the State of Hawaii and enrolled at least half-time in a vocational degree or certificate program in one of the approved educational institutions in Hawaii listed on the application. Preference will be given to non-traditional students: single parents, disabled (meets ADA definition), houseless, sole-income providers, previously incarcerated and wards of the court.

Description: Scholarship is open to U.S. residents who are 18 years of age and have legal and physical custody of one or more minor child. Applicant must also be enrolled full-time at an accredited college and have a GPA of 3.0 or higher.

Description: Scholarship is open to legal U.S. residents who are at least 18 years of age and currently enrolled, or will be enrolled within the next three months, in a college or university in the United States. Applicant must be a mother or an expectant mother.

NCJW/LA Scholarship Program

Amount: Up to $2,000
Closing Date: November 1, 2017
Description: Scholarships are open to students who live and attend school in the Greater Los Angeles area, including Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside, and Ventura Counties. Applicant must be trying to better their lives through education in the aftermath of trauma, loss and other setbacks. There are scholarships open to all majors and specific scholarships for nursing majors, mothers, non-traditional students, education majors, and film/television/cinema/theater majors.

Description: Scholarship is open to women who are the primary financial support for themselves and their dependents. Applicant must be enrolled in or has been accepted to a vocational/skills training program or an undergraduate degree program.

Scholarship for Single Parents

Description: Scholarship is open to students attending an accredited college or university who have a minimum GPA of 3.0. Applicant must be a single parent. Applicant must create a video that shows how software and technology will affect their field of study in the years to come.

Soroptimist Live Your Dream Awards

Description: Award is open to women who provide the primary support for themselves and their dependents. Applicant must be enrolled in or has been accepted to a vocational/skill training program or an undergraduate degree program.

Car Seat Research Scholarship

Amount: Up to $1,000
Closing Date: November 30, 2017
Description: Scholarship is open to current college students who are U.S. citizens and have at least a 3.0 GPA. Applicant must submit an essay or video on a given topic related to car seats.

Parents Need To Know Scholarship

Closing Date: December 31, 2017
Description: Scholarship is open to students who are parents. Applicant must submit a video sharing the challenges of studying and parenting.
