Athletic Scholarships

Some students are offered athletic scholarships to continue their sport in college. However, not all student athletes are give this opportunity. Luckily, there are outside scholarships open just to student athletes. Some of the scholarships listed are for specific sports, while others are open to all student athletes.

NSAA Scholarship

Description: Scholarship is open to residents of Alaska who are high school seniors or current undergraduate students. Applicant must be a member of a high school cross-country ski team in their junior and senior year.

API Study Abroad and Intern Abroad Scholarships

Description: Scholarships are open to API program participants. There are multiple scholarships with specific requirements – see website for details. In addition to general scholarships, there are scholarships specifically open to community college students, military veterans, non-traditional students, students with disabilities, minority students, LGBTQ students, STEM majors, and student athletes.

Bernie Varnadore Scholarship Program

Description: Scholarship is open to outstanding high school seniors who at one time participated in a franchised Dixie Boys Baseball (Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia), Inc. program and plan to pursue undergraduate studies at a college or university.

NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship

Description: Scholarship is open to student athletes who have achieved in their last year of varsity-level intercollegiate winter athletics at an NCAA school. Applicant must be nominated by the faculty athletic representative or athletic director and be enrolling as a full- or part-time graduate students. Applicant must have a minimum 3.2 GPA.

Novo Nordisk Donnelly Award

Description: Scholarship is open to students between 14 and 21 years of age who have diabetes and play tennis competitively.

Brian Pearson Memorial Scholarship

Description: Scholarship is open to high school juniors and seniors who have previously participated in any Iowa Games events (Summer Iowa Games, Winter Iowa Games, Iowa Games Net Fest, or Iowa Games Run).

GCSAA Legacy Awards

Description: Scholarship is open to incoming and enrolled students in a recognized undergraduate program in a major field related to turf management. Description: Scholarship is open to graduating high school seniors and current college students who are Jewish and participate in a sport. Preference will be given to fencers and Jewishly-committed student. Applicant must have at least a 3.0 GPA and be planning to attend a U.S. college in the Fall of 2020 or after a gap year.

Description: Scholarship is open to graduating high school seniors and college freshman and sophomores who play or compete in a sport. Applicant must submit an essay on whether they believe collegiate athletes should be allowed to be paid for playing sports or not.

Description: Scholarship is open to students who have participate in AAU Karate for a minimum of four years. Student must be a graduating high school senior who will be attending an accredited college or university in the fall or a current undergraduate student.

Description: Scholarship is open to descendants of a licensed California commercial fisherman, descendants of the current spouse of a licensed California commercial fisherman, or holder of a valid California commercial fishing license or worked on a vessel licensed by the California Department of Fish and Game for at least the past five years. San Luis Obispo County qualified applicants will have priority of the available scholarship funds.
