Athletic Scholarships

Some students are offered athletic scholarships to continue their sport in college. However, not all student athletes are give this opportunity. Luckily, there are outside scholarships open just to student athletes. Some of the scholarships listed are for specific sports, while others are open to all student athletes.

Joseph J. Fitzsimmons Scholarship
Sponsor: US Judo Federation

Description: Scholarship is open to students in their first or second year of medical school who are USJF members.

Paul E. Flaherty Athletic Scholarship
Sponsor: American Legion
Amount: $250
Closing Date: July 15, 2020
Description: Scholarship is open to high school seniors and college freshmen and sophomores who have participated in some form of high school athletics.

USABA Scholarship Program
Sponsor: United States Association of Blind Athletes
Amount: $500
Closing Date: July 31, 2020
Description: Scholarship is open to students enrolled or enrolling in a two-year or four-year college, university or technical school as a full-time student. Applicant must be a USABA member and legally blind. The scholarship will be awarded to one male and one female athlete.

Pro Stock Hockey Student Athlete Scholarship

Description: Scholarship is open to current undergraduate and graduate students who play for the school’s hockey team.

United Health Foundation Diverse Scholars Initiative
Sponsor: United Health Foundation | UNCF

Description: Scholarship is open to college seniors who are enrolled full time at an accredited four-year college or university (UNCF member institution preferred) with at least a 3.0 GPA. Applicant must be majoring in behavior health, biochemistry, biological science, biology, biomedical research, biotechnical health, medicine, nursing, pharmacy, public health or radiology.

Jaime Horn Memorial Softball Scholarship
Sponsor: The Babe Ruth League

Description: Scholarship is open to high school senior girls who played Babe Ruth League softball.

Walter J. Travis Memorial Scholarship
Sponsor: The Walter J. Travis Society, Inc.
Amount: $1,000
Closing Date: September 1, 2020
Description: Scholarship is open to students enrolled in the full-time undergraduate or graduate studies. Applicant must be pursuing a career in landscape design/golf course architecture, golf course turf grass management/golf course superintendent, professional golf management, club professional, or sports journalism with a special interest in golf.

AAU Karate Scholarships
Sponsor: Amateur Athletic Union of the United States
Amount: $1,000
Closing Date: September 4, 2020
Description: Scholarship is open to students who have participate in AAU Karate for a minimum of four years. Student must be a graduating high school senior who will be attending an accredited college or university in the fall or a current undergraduate student.

API Study Abroad and Intern Abroad Scholarships

Closing Date: October 30, 2020
Description: Scholarships are open to API program participants. There are multiple scholarships with specific requirements – see website for details. In addition to general scholarships, there are scholarships specifically open to community college students, military veterans, non-traditional students, students with disabilities, minority students, DACA students, LGBTQ students, STEM majors, and student athletes.

Ira Mitzner Collegiate Boxing Scholarship
Sponsor: United States Intercollegiate Boxing Association
Amount: $10,000

Description: Scholarship is open to incoming and current undergraduate students who are/ will be competitive boxers for the United States Intercollegiate Boxing Association.

Curwen-Guidry-Blackburn Scholarship Fund
Sponsor: Southern Bowling Congress
Amount: $750
Closing Date: March 15, 2021
Description: Scholarship is open to graduating high school seniors who are residents of Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, Tennessee, or Texas. Applicant must currently be bowling in a USBC-sanctioned league and have bowled for three out of four years in high school.
