LGBTQ Scholarships

If you are a member of the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer + community, there are scholarships out there just for you. In addition, many of these scholarships are also open to LGBTQ+ allies.

Diversity Scholarship

Description: Scholarship is open to all diversity and minority students, including Hispanics, African-Americans, Asian Americans, Native Americans, military veterans, women, people with disabilities, and members of the LGBT community. Applicant must be enrolled in and currently attending a school that has registered for DiversityJobs’ scholarship program (see website for details). Applicant must submit a completed online application.

GLBTQ Scholarship

Description: Scholarship is open to students who identify as gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender or questioning and who are enrolled in his/her Junior, Senior year or graduate program at an accredited college or university and applicant must have a declared major in civil, chemical, or environmental engineering or one of the environmental sciences.

Tang Scholarship

Description: Scholarship is open to self-identified Asian/Pacific Islander students (at least 25% API ancestry) who are gay, lesbian, bisexual or transgender and have/will graduate from a high school in one of the nine Bay Area counties (California).

Hampton Roads Pride Scholarship

Description: Scholarship is open to high school seniors and community college, undergraduate, graduate, and trade school students who identify as LGBTQ or an ally of the the LGBTQ community.

Models of Excellence Scholarship

Closing Date: May 6, 2017
Description: Scholarship is open to graduating high school seniors who have advanced the civil rights of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) population. Applicant must reside in Southern California.

Traub-Dicker Rainbow Scholarship

Description: Scholarship is open to LGBTQ graduating high school seniors and current undergraduate and graduate students who are women-identified students. Applicant must demonstrate their dedication to making a difference through their aspirations and actions.

Grace Towers Scholarship for the Arts

Description: Scholarship is open to California high school seniors and current college students of color who are between 16 ad 25 years of age, identify as members of the LGBTQ+ community, and who plan to attend college and study in any discipline of the arts.

Description: Scholarship is open to high school seniors and current college students in California who are 16 to 25 years of age and identify as members of the LGBTQ+ community. Applicant must have, at some point in their high school or post high school career, demonstrated a commitment to raising awareness about LGBTQ+ issues, combating homophobia and/or bullying or educating their community about similar topics.

Description: Scholarship is open to students currently enrolled in a basic law enforcement training program in the United States who identify as gay, lesbian, bi-sexual, or transgender.

Follansbee-Hansen Scholarship

Description: Scholarship is open to graduating high school seniors and college freshman from the Sacramento area who self-identify as gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, questioning or intersex.

Kay Longcope Scholarship Award
Sponsor: National Lesbian & Gay Journalist Association (NLGJA)
Amount: Up to $3,000
Closing Date: May 31, 2017
Description: Scholarship is open to LGBT individuals of color planning to pursue a career in journalism and are able to demonstrate their passion and commitment to the profession.

Leroy F. Aarons Scholarship Award
Sponsor: National Lesbian & Gay Journalist Association (NLGJA)
Amount: Up to $5,000
Closing Date: May 31, 2017
Description: Scholarships are open to current or incoming undergraduate or graduate students who are enrolled in an accredited journalism or mass communications field. Applicant must also demonstrate an awareness of the issues facing the LGBT community and the importance of fair and accurate news coverage.
