Military Scholarships

The brave men and women of the Armed Forces sacrifice a lot for our nation. Many scholarship providers want to give back by offering scholarships open only to military service members, veterans, and their dependents. Below are scholarships for military service members, veterans, and military and veteran spouses and dependents.

Emerging & Disruptive Technologies Essay Contest
Sponsor: U.S. Naval Institute | Leidos
Amount: Up to $5,000
Closing Date: February 28, 2017
Description: Contest is open to any contributor – active duty military, reservists, veterans, government civilian personnel and civilians. Applicant must submit an essay on a given topic related to emerging and disruptive technologies.

Naval Mine Warfare Essay Contest
Sponsor: U.S. Naval Institute | Mine Warfare Association
Amount: Up to $1,500
Closing Date: February 28, 2017
Description: Contest is open to all persons eligible for membership in the Institute. Applicant must submit an essay on a given topic related to naval mine warfare.

Wells Fargo Veterans Scholarship Program

Closing Date: February 28, 2017
Description: Scholarship is open to individuals who are honorably discharged veterans or spouses of disabled veterans who have served in the United States military, including the Reserves and National Guard. Applicant must be a high school or GED graduate who plans to enroll or students who are already enrolled in full-time undergraduate or graduate (first Master’s degree) study at an accredited two-year or four-year college, university, or vocational-technical school.

Description: Scholarships are open to family members (children and spouses) of qualified Surface Navy sailors who are/will be enrolled in undergraduate study.

Children of Warriors National Presidents’ Scholarship

Description: Scholarship is open to graduating high school seniors who are daughters, sons, grandsons, granddaughters, great-granddaughters, great-grandsons or veterans who served in the Armed Forces during WWI, WWII, Korean War, Vietnam War, Lebanon and Grenada, Panama, or Desert Shield/Storm Gulf/War on Terrorism.

Graydon and Myrth Fox Scholarship
Sponsor: Sacramento Region Communication Foundation
Amount: Up to $5,000
Closing Date: March 1, 2017
Description: Scholarship is open to students pursuing a degree at an accredited college or trade school who are veterans and have served honorably in the United States Arm Forces, a surviving spouse, dependent or grandchild of a U.S. Veteran.

Heroes Tribute Scholarship Program
Sponsor: Marine Corps Scholarship Foundation
Amount: Up to $7,500 per year
Closing Date: March 1, 2017
Description: Scholarship is open to students planning to attend an accredited undergraduate college or career training school in the upcoming year (graduating high school seniors and current college students). Applicant much be a child of a Marine who has been killed or wounded in action or in the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001.

Illinois AMVETS Service Foundation Veterans Scholarships

Amount: Up to $2,000
Closing Date: March 1, 2017
Description: Scholarships are open to graduating high school seniors and current college students from Illinois who are either veterans or a child or grandchild of a veteran or active-duty military member. In addition to the general scholarships, there are specific scholarships for Nursing majors and students who participate in a Junior ROTC program.

Non-Traditional Student Scholarship
Sponsor: American Legion Auxiliary
Amount: $2,000
Closing Date: March 1, 2017
Description: Scholarship is open to non-traditional students returning to the classroom after some period of time in which his/her formal education was interrupted or a non-traditional student who is just beginning his/her education at a later point in life. Applicant must be a member of The American Legion, Auxiliary, or Sons of The American Legion.

Spirit of Youth Scholarship Fund

Amount: Up to $5,000
Closing Date: March 1, 2017
Description: Scholarship is open to junior members of the American Legion who are high school seniors with at least a 3.0 GPA. Applicant must submit an essay on “How military families are keeping the promise to preserve our freedom,” as well a recommendations from their principal or guidance counselor, a member of the clergy, and two other adult citizens (a total of four recommendations).

Tillman Scholar

Description: Scholarship program is open to veterans and active-duty military service members, and current spouses of veterans or active-duty service members who are full-time undergraduate and graduate students.

General Henry H. Arnold Education Grant Program
Sponsor: Air Force Aid Society (AFAS)

Closing Date: March 10, 2017
Description: Applicant must be a dependent of an Air Force member, spouse of an Active Duty member, or a surviving spouse of an Air Force member who will be a high school graduate enrolled or accepted as a full-time undergraduate student during the 2017-2018 academic year.

Terrill Foundation Scholarships

Description: Scholarships are open to high school seniors and military personnel with neurologic injuries and/or diseases.
