Military Scholarships

The brave men and women of the Armed Forces sacrifice a lot for our nation. Many scholarship providers want to give back by offering scholarships open only to military service members, veterans, and their dependents. Below are scholarships for military service members, veterans, and military and veteran spouses and dependents.

Children of Fallen Patriots Foundation Scholars Program
Sponsor: Children of Fallen Patriots Foundation
Amount: Up to $6,250
Closing Date: Monthly – all documents due to the program team by the 15th of each month
Description: Program is open to children – whether natural, by marriage or adoption – who have lost a parent in the line of military duty, during combat or peacetime. All branches (Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, or Coast Guard) and all components (active, reserve and guard are covered).

Educational Benefits for Children of Deceased Veterans and Others
Sponsor: Delaware Department of Education
Amount: Tuition and fees at your college (see website for specific details)
Closing Date: Completed application is due 6-8 weeks before classes begin
Description: Program is open to residents of the state of Delaware between the ages of 16 and 24 years of age whose parent was a resident of Delaware at the time of death or declaration of mission in action or prisoner of war status.

Wells Fargo Veterans Emergency Grant Program
Sponsor: Wells Fargo
Amount: Up to $1,000
Closing Date: There is no application deadline, but grants will be awarded on an ongoing basis until funds are exhausted.
Description: Grant program is open to honorably-discharged veterans and spouses of disabled veterans who have served in the United States military. Applicant must be a student who is already enrolled in full-time undergraduate or graduate study.

Military Child of the Year Award
Sponsor: Operation Homefront
Amount: $10,000
Closing Date: December 9, 2019
Description: Award is open to young people ages 13 to 18 who are children of someone who is/was in the military.

Graduate Technology Scholarship for Military Veterans
Sponsor: HotelPlanner
Amount: $1,000
Closing Date: December 15, 2019
Description: Scholarship is open to veterans of the United States military, along with the spouse/partner and children of U.S. military veterans, who are pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree related to technology.

Huddle for Heroes: Make a Card of Appreciation or Letter for Military Service Members, Veterans, and their Families

Amount: $2,500
Closing Date: December 15, 2019

Fallen Heroes Scholarship
Sponsor: The Coast Guard Foundation
Amount: Varies
Closing Date: December 24, 2019
Description: Scholarship is open to unmarried dependent children of enlisted and commissioned men and women of the U.S. Coast Guard who lost their lives in Coast Guard land, air, or sea operations. Applicant must be a college bound high school senior entering an accredited college or technical school for fall semester or a full-time undergraduate student already enrolled in an accredited undergraduate program or technical school for the fall semester of this year.

Description: Scholarship is open to veterans and active members of the U.S. military who are enrolled at a private or public educational institution, and working towards a certificate, diploma, or degree.

General Prize Essay Contest
Sponsor: U.S. Naval Institute
Amount: Up to $6,000
Closing Date: December 31, 2019
Description: Contest is open to all persons eligible for membership (including those already members) in the institute. Applicant must submit an essay on a given topic related to the U.S. Naval Institute’s mission.

Military College Scholarship
Sponsor: Low VA Rates
Amount: $1,250
Closing Date: December 31, 2019
Description: Scholarship is open to military students currently enrolled in college. Children with a mother or father serving in any branch of the U.S. Armed Forces are also eligible to apply for the scholarship.

Legacy Scholarship Program
Sponsor: Army Women’s Foundation
Amount: Up to $2,500
Closing Date: January 10, 2020
Description: Scholarships are open to women who have served or are serving honorably in the U.S. Army, U.S. Army Reserve, Army National Guard or the child of a woman who served honorably in the U.S. Army, U.S. Army Reserve or Army National Guard. Applicant must a current community college or certificate student with at least a 2.5 GPA or a current undergraduate or graduate student with at least a 3.0 GPA.

American Legion – Department of Kansas Scholarships
Sponsor: The American Legion – Department of Kansas
Amount: Varies
Closing Date: February 15, 2020
Description: Scholarships are open to graduating high school seniors and current college students from the state of Kansas. In addition to general scholarships, there are scholarships open to children of veterans, Scouts, athletes, and students with talent in music and public speaking.

Daniel E. Lambert Memorial Scholarship
Sponsor: The American Legion Department of Maine
Amount: $1,000
Closing Date: May 1, 2020
Description: Scholarship is open to incoming and current college students who are residents of Maine and have a parent or grandparent who is a veteran.

H&P Veterans Helping Veterans Scholarships
Sponsor: Hill & Ponton
Amount: $1,000
Closing Date: May 1, 2020
Description: Scholarship is open to veterans of the armed forces who plan to use their education to help fellow veterans.

James V. Day Scholarship
Sponsor: The American Legion Department of Maine
Amount: $500
Closing Date: May 1, 2020
Description: Scholarship is open to incoming and current college students who are residents of Maine. Applicant must have a parent or grandparent who is a member of the Maine American Legion.
