Military Scholarships

The brave men and women of the Armed Forces sacrifice a lot for our nation. Many scholarship providers want to give back by offering scholarships open only to military service members, veterans, and their dependents. Below are scholarships for military service members, veterans, and military and veteran spouses and dependents.

Children of Fallen Patriots Foundation Scholars Program
Sponsor: Children of Fallen Patriots Foundation
Amount: Up to $6,250
Closing Date: Monthly – all documents due to the program team by the 15th of each month
Description: Program is open to children – whether natural, by marriage or adoption – who have lost a parent in the line of military duty, during combat or peacetime. All branches (Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, or Coast Guard) and all components (active, reserve and guard are covered).

Educational Benefits for Children of Deceased Veterans and Others
Sponsor: Delaware Department of Education
Amount: Tuition and fees at your college (see website for specific details)
Closing Date: Completed application is due 6-8 weeks before classes begin
Description: Program is open to residents of the state of Delaware between the ages of 16 and 24 years of age whose parent was a resident of Delaware at the time of death or declaration of mission in action or prisoner of war status.

Wells Fargo Veterans Emergency Grant Program
Sponsor: Wells Fargo
Amount: Up to $1,000
Closing Date: There is no application deadline, but grants will be awarded on an ongoing basis until funds are exhausted.
Description: Grant program is open to honorably-discharged veterans and spouses of disabled veterans who have served in the United States military. Applicant must be a student who is already enrolled in full-time undergraduate or graduate study.

ROTC Scholarships
Sponsor: AFCEA Educational Foundation
Amount: Up to $3,000
Closing Date: April 10, 2020
Description: Scholarship is open to Army, Navy (including Marine Corps option) and Air Force ROTC full-time sophomore and junior students with at least an overall 3.0 GPA. Applicant must be enrolled full-time in a degree major that is related to the mission of the AFCEA educational Foundation (Sciences, Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics, and other STEM related majors).

War Veterans Scholarship

Amount: $2,500
Closing Date: April 10, 2020
Description: Scholarship is open to persons on active duty in the uniformed military services, to honorably discharged U.S. military veterans (including Reservists and National Guard personnel) of the Enduring Freedom-Afghanistan or Iraqi Freedom Operations who are currently enrolled and attending classes in an Undergraduate program part-time or full-time in an eligible STEM major degree program at an accredited four-year college or university in the U.S.

American Legion Legacy Scholarship
Sponsor: The American Legion
Amount: Up to $20,000
Closing Date: April 15, 2020
Description: Scholarship is open to children of fallen post-9/11 service members, and VA-rated, post-9/11 veterans with a disability of 50 percent or higher. Applicant must be a graduating high school senior or current college student.

Army Scholarship Foundation Scholarships

Amount: Up to $2,000
Closing Date: April 15, 2020
Description: Scholarships are open to sons, daughters, or spouses of regular active duty, active duty Reserve, or active duty National Guard U.S. Army members in good standing, OR sons or daughters of former U.S. Army members who received an honorable discharge or medical discharge, or who were killed while serving in the U.S. Army. Applicant must be a high school senior, high school graduate, or registered undergraduate student.

Enlisted Prize Essay Contest

Amount: Up to $3,000

Description: Contest is open to enlisted personnel – active duty, reserve and retired-from any nation’s sea services. Applicant must submit an essay on a topic that makes the naval profession stronger.

Fleet Reserve Association Scholarship Program
Sponsor: Fleet Reserve Association (FRA)
Amount: Up to $5,000
Closing Date: April 15, 2020
Description: Scholarship is open to students who are affiliated with the USN, USMC or USCG through their own service or that of their spouse, parent, grandparent or great-grandparent. Applicant must be a U.S. citizen and a full-time student at an accredited college or university in the United States.

Hattie Tedrow Scholarship
Sponsor: The American Legion Department of North Dakota
Amount: $2,000
Closing Date: April 15, 2020
Description: Scholarship is open to graduating high school seniors who are residents of the state of North Dakota and a direct descendant (child, grandchild, etc.) of a veteran with honorable service in the U.S. military.

ThanksUSA Scholarship

Description: Scholarship is open to dependent children ages 24 and under or spouses of U.S. military service personnel. Applicants must be a current high school senior or graduate with plans to enroll or students who are already enrolled in a full-time undergraduate course of study at an accredited two-or four-year college or university or vocational-technical school for the academic year.

Blinded Veterans Association Scholarships

Description: Scholarships are open to spouses, dependent children, and grandchildren of blinded veterans who are incoming or current undergraduate or graduate students.

American Legion Department of Missouri Scholarships
Sponsor: The American Legion Department of Missouri
Amount: Up to $1,000
Closing Date: April 20, 2020
Description: Scholarships are open to current college students who are residents of Missouri. Applicant must be a member of The American Legion Family, i.e. Legion Member, Auxiliary Member, S.A.L. Member, or a descendant of any member thereof.

AFSA Scholarships and Grant Programs

Amount: Up to $3,000

Description: Scholarship is open to graduating high school seniors and current college students who are Air Force Dependent children pursuing undergraduate degrees.

Army Nurse Corps Association (ANCA) Scholarship

Description: Scholarship is open to students currently enrolled in an accredited baccalaureate or advanced degree nursing or nurse anesthesia program who are serving or have previously served in any branch of a component of the U.S. Army. Applicant must not currently be receiving funding by a component of the U.S. Army and have received an Honorable Discharge (if applicable).

Coast Guard Essay Contest
Sponsor: U.S. Naval Institute
Amount: Up to $5,000
Closing Date: April 30, 2020
Description: Contest is open to any contributor – active duty military, reservists, veterans, government civilian personnel and civilians. Applicant must submit an essay on a given topic related to making the Coast Guard stronger.

General Henry H. Arnold Education Grant
Sponsor: Air Force Aid Society (AFAS)
Amount: Up to $4,000
Closing Date: April 30, 2020
Description: Applicant must be a dependent of an Air Force member, spouse of an Active Duty member, or a surviving spouse of an Air Force member. Applicant must be a high school graduate enrolled or accepted as a full-time undergraduate student during the 2020-2021 academic year.

Naval Mine Warfare Essay Contest

Amount: Up to $1,500

Description: Contest is open to all persons eligible for membership in the Institute. Applicant must submit an essay on a given topic related to naval mine warfare.

Description: Scholarship is open to students who are retired, honorably discharged, active duty, or a member of the National Guard or Reserve. Applicant must participate in, be accepted to or currently enrolled in a VA-approved program or school at an accredited post-secondary institution.

TREA Scholarship

Doctor Almo Sebastianelli Drum Corps Scholarship

Closing Date: November 1, 2020
Description: Scholarship is open to U.S. citizens who are currently attending an accredited college or university in the United States who has served in the United State Army, Navy, Marines, Air Force, Coast Guard, or Reserves OR is the child or stepchild of someone who has. Applicant must have at least a 3.0 GPA.
