Scholarship Saturday – January 12, 2019

There are thousands of scholarships out there. Below you will find many scholarships, most with general eligibility requirements. My goal is to share some lesser-known scholarships with my readers every Saturday.

Description: Scholarship is open to graduating high school seniors and current undergraduate students who have an interest in the law. Applicant must be a an immigrant to the U.S. and is a U.S. citizen, DACA recipient, or a legal permanent resident. Applicant must submit a Facebook-style ad aimed at engaging the public on the subject of either lemon law, debt collection harassment, or overtime pay.

Lisa Kaminiski Memorial Scholarship

Closing Date: January 15, 2019
Description: Scholarship is open to high school seniors in the Greater Cincinnati area (including North Kentucky) who have an outstanding record of community service. Applicant must be intending to declare a major in a STEM-related field of study at a college or university program (Computer Science, MIS, Data Analystics, Digital Design, etc.)

DTE Energy Foundation Scholarship

Description: Scholarship is open to college juniors and seniors who are currently enrolled at a UNCF member college or university. Applicant must have at least a 3.0 GPA and be a permanent resident in the West Michigan areas of Grand Rapids, Kalamazoo, Battle Creek, Jackson, Bentor Harbor or St. Joseph (zip codes beginning with 490 thru 495). Applicant must have a declared major in mechanical, chemical or electrical engineering, information technology, or business.

SunTrust Scholarship Sweepstakes

Closing Date: January 18, 2019
Description: Sweepstakes is open to high school seniors and college undergraduates with permanent residence in Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Maryland, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia, West Virginia, or the District of Columbia. Students can enter online or by mail once during each two week drawing period.

Stand Up Men Award

Amount: $2,500
Closing Date: January 20, 2019
Description: Scholarship is open to 8th graders, high school students, and undergraduate students under the age of 25 and of any gender. Applicant must submit an original 3-6 minute film on any man they know who is taking a stand to prevent violence against women and/or standing up for women’s rights.

Malcolm X Scholarship for “Exceptional Courage”

Description: Scholarship is open to undergraduate students who are enrolled at one of the UNCF institutions. Applicant must have overcome difficult circumstances or challenges in pursuit of their college education.

Childhood Cancer Sibling Scholarship Program

Closing Date: January 30, 2019
Description: Scholarship is open to graduating high school seniors and current undergraduate students who are siblings of individuals who are in current treatment, have survived or passed away from pediatric childhood cancer.

Cappex Easy College Money Scholarship*

Closing Date: January 31, 2019
Description: Scholarship is open to high school and college students in the United States who are/will be enrolled in college within the next 12 months. Applicant must create a Cappex profile (if they don’t have one already), share about their extracurricular, leadership, and volunteer activities, and then search Cappex for scholarships.

Child of Divorce/Single Parent Household Scholarship

Closing Date: January 31, 2019
Description: Scholarship is open to high school seniors who have been accepted and current undergraduate and graduate students who come from a divorced/single parent household. Applicant must submit an essay on a given topic pertaining to individuals who are the product of a single parent or divorced household.

InspirASIAN Scholarships

Description: Scholarship is open to graduating high school seniors in good academic standing (minimum GPA of 3.4) who will attend an accredited college or university in Fall 2019. Applicant must be residents of an area with a APCA chapter (Arizona, California, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nevada, New Jersey, Ohio, Ohio, Texas, Washington, Wisconsin, or Washington D.C. metro area). Nikon Photo Contest

Description: Contest is open to everyone, professional and amateur photographers, regardless of nationality, age, and sex. Applicant must submit photography or video using a Nikon device.

Norma Ross Walter Scholarship

Description: Scholarship is open to female students who are graduating high school seniors at a Nebraska high school and plans to enroll as an English major at an accredited college or university.

Opportunity Scholarship for Locked-Out Dreamers

Amount: Up to $80,000 over four years
Closing Date: January 31, 2019
Description: Scholarship is open to graduating high school seniors and high school graduates who live in targeted, locked-out states that do not offer in-state tuition to DREAMers, or bars them from attending state colleges and universities all together.

PanHellenic Scholarship Awards

Description: Scholarship is open to women who are high school seniors in California. Applicant must submit a completed application, three letters of recommendation, and a personal essay related to leadership. If selected as a recipient of the scholarship, student must be present at the PBWC Annual Conference on April 23, 2019 in San Francisco (travel expenses not paid for by PBWC).
