January 2019 Scholarships

Attending college can be quite expensive for students and their families. Luckily, there are many college scholarships and contests available to help pay for a college education. Students should seek out and apply for scholarships in which they meet the eligibility requirements. Below are a handful of scholarships with January 2019 due dates. Check out the full list of January Scholarships – there are currently over 100 scholarships on the list! More scholarships will be added as they become available.

MIT THINK Scholars Program
Sponsor: MIT THINK
Amount: $1,000 budget, chance to win $500 scholarship, mentorship, and a trip to MIT
Closing Date: January 1, 2019
Description: Applicant must be a current high school student at a school in the United States. Applicant must submit a project proposal on a science, technology or engineering idea.

Countdown to College Scholarship
Sponsor: Potential Magazine
Amount: $500
Closing Date: January 4, 2019
Description: Scholarship is open to college-bound teens in 9th-12th grades. Students need to sign up for Potential Magazine’s free weekly eNewsletter and they will automatically be entered to win the scholarship.

GE – Reagan Foundation Scholarship Program
Sponsor: Ronald Reagan Presidential Foundation & Institute and GE
Amount: $10,000
Closing Date: January 4, 2019
Description: Scholarship is open to high school seniors who demonstrate leadership, drive, integrity, and citizenship at school, at the workplace, and in the community. Applicant must also demonstrate financial need.

Young Filmmakers Contest
Sponsor: One Earth Film Festival
Amount: Up to $1,000
Closing Date: January 13, 2019
Description: Contest is open to students in grades 3 through college (ages 8 and up) from the United States. Student must create a film on one of many given topics related to the Earth.

National Sojourners Essay Contest
Sponsor: National Sojourners Inc.
Amount: Up to $2,000
Closing Date: January 15, 2019
Description: Contest is open to students in 9th through 12th grade. Applicant must submit an essay on a topic related to historical documents.

Profile in Courage Essay Contest
Sponsor: John F. Kennedy Presidential Library and Museum
Amount: Up to $10,000
Closing Date: January 18, 2019
Description: Contest is open to United States high school students in grades nine through twelve. Applicant must submit an essay on a given topic related to an act of political courage.

C-SPAN’s StudentCam Documentary Competition
Sponsor: C-SPAN
Amount: Up to $5,000
Closing Date: January 20, 2019
Description: Competition is open to students in grades 6-12. Student must create a short documentary video on “What Does it Mean to be American?”

Oklahoma City National Memorial & Museum Student Essay Contest
Sponsor: Oklahoma City National Memorial & Museum
Amount: Up to $500
Closing Date: January 25, 2019
Description: Contest is open to all public, private, parochial and home school students in grades 5-12. Applicant must submit an essay on a given prompt related to change in your community.

I Have a Dream Scholarship
Sponsor: Unigo
Amount: $1,500
Closing Date: January 31, 2019
Description: Applicant must be 13 years of age or older, be a resident of the 50 United States or the District of Columbia, and be currently enrolled (or enroll no later than the fall of 2025) in an accredited post-secondary institution of higher education. Applicant

Leaders Save Lives Scholarship Program
Sponsor: American Red Cross
Amount: Up to $2,500
Closing Date: January 31, 2019
Description: Scholarship is open to all high school and college students. Applicant must host an American Red Cross blood drive between December 15, 2018 and January 31, 2019.
