Attending college can be quite expensive for students and their families. Luckily, there are many college scholarships and contests available to help pay for a college education. Students should seek out and apply for scholarships in which they meet the eligibility requirements. Below are a handful of scholarships with May 2018 due dates. Paradigm Challenge

Description: Challenge is open to students aged 4 to 18 years of age (as of May 1, 2018) worldwide. Applicants may work in a team or alone to develop new ideas to improve personal health.
Transfer Times Scholarship

Description: Scholarship is open to students enrolled at a two-year community college or technical college. Applicant must fill out a short form.
Countdown to College Scholarship
Sponsor: Potential Magazine
Amount: $500
Closing Date: May 4, 2018
Description: Scholarship is open to college-bound teens in 9th-12th grades. Students need to sign up for Potential Magazine’s free weekly eNewsletter and they will automatically be entered to win the scholarship.
Atlas Shrugged Essay Contest
Sponsor: Ayn Rand Institute
Amount: Up to $10,000
Closing Date: May 15, 2018
Description: Scholarship is open to high school seniors, college undergraduates, and graduate students worldwide. Applicant must submit an essay on a topic related to Ayn Rand’s Atlas Shurgged. In addition to the general contest, there is special regional contests for students in California, Chicagoland (Illinois, Indiana, and Wisconsin), and Colorado.
Chopin Foundation Scholarship Program for Young Pianists

Description: Scholarship is open to qualified American pianists (U.S. citizens or legal residents) not younger than 14 and not older than 17 years of age on May 15.
Fountainhead Essay Contest

Description: Contest is open to students who are in 11th or 12th grade who have read Ayn Rand’s “Fountainhead.” Applicant must submit an essay on a given topic related to “Fountainhead.” There is no citizenship requirement to participate. In addition to the general contest, there are special regional contests for students in Chicagoland (Illinois, Indiana, and Wisconsin) and Colorado.
Brower Youth Awards for Environmental Leadership

Description: Scholarship is open to environmental change leaders ages 13 to 22 (as of Jul. 1, 2018) living in North America (including Mexico, Canada, and some Caribbean Islands) and U.S. Territories.
JASNA Essay Contest

Description: Contest is open to students world-wide who are enrolled in high school, college/university, or graduate school. Student must submit an essay on a given topic related a Jane Austen work.
Christian Connector Scholarship

Description: Scholarship is open to students with plans to enroll for the first time as a full-time student at a Christ-centered Christian college or Bible college within 16 months.

Description: Scholarship is open to incoming and current college students. Applicant must take the pledge related to driving and design an advertisement against distracted driving.
Fifth Month Scholarship

Description: Scholarship is open to students 13 years of age or older who are legal residents of the 50 United States or the District of Columbia who are currently enrolled (or will enroll no later than the fall of 2024) in an accredited post-secondary institution of higher education. Applicant must “write a letter to the number five explaining why five is important.”
Pedro Zamora Young Leaders Scholarship
Sponsor: National AIDS Memorial Grove

Closing Date: May 31, 2018
Description: Scholarship is open to current high school seniors, and college freshman, sophomores and juniors (ages 27 and younger) who demonstrate an active commitment to fighting HIV/AIDS and taking on roles of public service and leadership.
Review Your College Scholarship

Description: Scholarship is open to legal residents of the 50 United States and the District of Columbia who are 13 years of age or older at the time of application and who are currently enrolled or have previously been enrolled) in an accredited post-secondary institution of higher learning. Applicant must provide a star rating and written review of an accredited post-secondary institution of higher learning they are or have attended.
