Scholarship Saturday – April 29, 2017

There are thousands of scholarships out there. Some are large scholarships that are well publicized, while others are lesser known. My goal is to share some lesser-known scholarships with my readers every Saturday.

Description: Scholarship is open to U.S. citizens who will be enrolled in an accredited, four-year degree undergraduate program at a college or university in the U.S. by August 2017. Applicant must demonstrate the ability to overcome obstacles to achieve academic and personal goals.

NEWH | Northwest Chapter Scholarship
Sponsor: NEWH – The Hospitality Industry Network | Northwest Chapter
Amount: Varies
Closing Date: May 5, 2017 (extended from April 21, 2017)
Description: Scholarship is open to currently enrolled college students attending an accredited college in Washington, Oregon, Alaska, Idaho or Montana. Applicant must have a career objective in of the areas of the Hospitality Industry (i.e. Hotel/Restaurant Management, Culinary/Foodservice, Architecture, Interior Design, etc.)

UFCW International Scholarship Program
Sponsor: United Food and Commercial Workers (UFCW) Charity Foundation
Amount: Up to $8,000
Closing Date: May 8, 2017
Description: Scholarships are open to UFCW members who have been active since January 1, 2016 or children/dependents of active members if they are unmarried and under the age of 20 on May 31, 2017.

Fountainhead Essay Contest
Sponsor: Ayn Rand Institute
Amount: Up to $10,000
Closing Date: May 10, 2017 (extended to April 26, 2017)
Description: Contest is open to students who are in 11th or 12th grade and have read Ayn Rand’s “Fountainhead.” Applicant must submit an essay on a given topic related to “Fountainhead.” There is no citizenship requirement to participate.

#LiveLikeLyly Memorial Scholarship

Closing Date: May 15, 2017
Description: Scholarship is open to Asian high school seniors and current college students who are/will be pursuing a major in fashion or graphic design. Applicant must be a citizen, national or legal permanent resident of the U.S. and have at least a 3.0 GPA.

ABAK Buena S. Bond Memorial Scholarship

Description: Scholarship is open to incoming and current undergraduate students who are Kentucky residents and have a declared major in an agricultural related field of study.

Description: Scholarship is open to incoming and current college students. Applicant must submit an essay on a given topic related to making roads and highways safer.

Aging Matters Scholarship

Description: Scholarship is open to incoming freshman and current college students who will be enrolled during the Fall of 2017. Applicant must be caring for an aging loved one, working within the senior community, or intending to pursue a career that will have an impact on the elder population.

Description: Scholarship is open to incoming and current college students with at least a 3.0 GPA. Applicant must submit a video that captures the beauty of their campus.

Artistic Scholarship

Description: Scholarship is open to Asian American high school seniors and current college students who are/will be pursuing a major in the visual/performing arts (film, theatre, fashion, photography, graphic design, dance, music, journalism, mass communications, etc.). Applicant must be a citizen, national or legal permanent resident of the U.S. and have at least a 3.0 GPA.
