There are thousands of scholarships out there. Some are large scholarships that are well publicized, while others are lesser known. My goal is to share some lesser-known scholarships with my readers every Saturday.

Description: Scholarship is open to Rhode Island minority students who are studying communications at the undergraduate or graduate level. High school seniors are encouraged to apply.

Wyland Galleries Waikiki Beach Walk High School Art Scholarship

Closing Date: April 22, 2017
Description: Scholarship is open to high school students in the state of Hawaii. Applicant must submit a piece of art on the Malama Honua Theme.

Simpson Strong-Tie Academic Scholarships

Closing Date: April 25, 2017
Description: Scholarship is open to college juniors and seniors in full-time undergraduate study in Architecture, Structural Engineering or Construction Management. Student must attend one of 60 listed universities (see website for details).

Antonio Cirino Memorial Award

Closing Date: April 28, 2017
Description: Scholarship is open to Rhode Island residents who are graduate students in arts education or in the arts with an intention to teach. Applicant must have the intent to teach at K-12, undergraduate, graduate, or post-graduate level.

Bob Bennett Memorial Scholarship

Amount: Up to $1,000
Closing Date: April 28, 2017
Description: Scholarship is open to graduating high school seniors and current college students who will be enrolled during the 2017-2018 academic year. Applicant must be a member in good standing of Unity One Credit Union.

Lily and Catello Sorrentino Memorial Scholarship
Sponsor: Rhode Island Foundation

Closing Date: April 28, 2017
Description: Scholarship is open to students 25 years of age or older who are pursuing an undergraduate degree in a degree-conferring non-parochial institution in Rhode Island. Applicant must have financial need.

Mark Beaumont Scholarship Fund
Sponsor: Academy of Interactive Arts & Sciences

Description: Scholarship is open to full-time undergraduate students in at least their second year of undergraduate studies or a graduate student attending an accredited college or university in the United States during the 2016-2017 academic school year. Applicant must have the intention to enter the video game industry focusing on the business of interactive entertainment.
