Some are large scholarships that are well publicized, while others are lesser known. My goal is to share some lesser-known scholarships with my readers every Saturday.

Description: Scholarship is open to students currently enrolled in a U.S. school (or be home-schooled in the U.S.) in grades 8-12 who are NSHSS members and want to study abroad.

Justice Empowerment Scholarship

Amount: $2,500
Closing Date: January 20, 2017 – extended from January 6, 2017
Description: Scholarship is open to students attending an accredited U.S. college (including community college) or university who have an interest in social justice. Applicant must submit a video on a topic related to justice.

OZY Genius Awards Scholarship
Sponsor: JPMorgan Chase & Co.
Amount: Up to $10,000
Closing Date: January 20, 2017
Description: Contest is open to undergraduate students currently enrolled at an accredited college or university in the United States. Applicant must fill out a form answering questions on their genius, a genius idea, and their inspiration.

McDonald’s Black History Makers of Tomorrow
Sponsor: Black History Makers of Tomorrow – Kentuckiana
Amount: $1,500
Closing Date: January 30, 2017
Description: Scholarship is open to outstanding Kentuckiana (specific areas in Indiana and Kentucky) high school seniors who demonstrate exceptional leadership, character, scholarship and community service. The program is open to students with at least one parent of African American or Black Caribbean descent.

Mister Rogers Memorial Scholarship
Sponsor: Television Academy Foundation
Amount: $5,000
Closing Date: January 31, 2017
Description: Scholarship is open to graduating college seniors and current graduate students of accredited colleges or universities within the United States. Applicant must demonstrate a commitment to any combination of at least two of the following fields: early childhood education, child development/child psychology, film/television production, music, animation, or production of cross-platform entertainment. Applicant must have the ultimate goal of working in children’s media.

NABA Scholarship Program
Sponsor: National Association of Black Accountants, Inc.
Amount: Up to $10,000
Closing Date: January 31, 2017
Description: Scholarship is open to African-American students studying accounting, finance, or business at an accredited college or university. Applicant must be an active student member of NABA.

National Ag Day Essay Contest
Sponsor: Agriculture Council of America
Amount: $1,000
Closing Date: January 31, 2017
Description: Contest is open to students in grades 9 through 12 in the 2016-2017 school year. Applicant must submit an essay or video essay on a given topic related to agriculture.

National CPR Foundation Healthcare and Education Scholarship Program
Sponsor: National CPR Foundation
Amount: $1,000
Closing Date: January 31, 2017
Description: Scholarship is open to incoming and current college students who are at least 18 years of age and have a minimum GPA of 2.8. Applicant must be currently or planning to be enrolled in school majoring in a healthcare or education-related field.
