Attending college can be quite expensive for students and their families. Luckily, there are many college scholarships and contests available to help pay for a college education. Students should seek out and apply for scholarships in which they meet the eligibility requirements. Below are a handful of scholarships with January 2017 due dates. Only brief information about each scholarship is listed. Therefore, students are encouraged to visit the scholarship websites to get further details about eligibility and requirements.

Sleepedia Annual Scholarship
Sponsor: Sleepedia
Amount: $1,000
Closing Date: January 1, 2017
Description: Scholarship is open to graduating high school seniors and currently enrolled college students. Applicant must submit a video on their own sleep habits.

Young Patriots Essay Contest
Sponsor: National Center for Policy Analysis and Copart
Amount: Up to $5,000
Closing Date: January 3, 2017
Description: Scholarship is open to any American citizen or lawful resident who is currently a student in grades 6-12, or is a recent high school graduate who has never enrolled as a degree-seeking student in any college or university. Applicant must read two required readings (available on website) and write an essay on a given topic related to international free trade agreements.

Profile in Courage Essay Contest
Sponsor: John F. Kennedy Presidential Library and Museum
Amount: Up to $20,000
Closing Date: January 4, 2017
Description: Contest is open to United States high school students in grades nine through twelve. Applicant must submit an essay on a given topic related to an act of political courage.

Coffee Barrister Annual College Scholarship
Sponsor: The Coffee Barrister
Amount: $1,000
Closing Date: January 14, 2017
Description: Scholarship is open to any student enrolled in an accredited secondary school, college, or university. Applicant must submit an essay on a given topic related to coffee.

C-SPAN’s StudentCam Documentary Competition
Sponsor: C-SPAN
Amount: Up to $5,000
Closing Date: January 20, 2017
Description: Competition is open to students in grades 6-12. Student must create a short documentary video on their message to Washington.

Technology Addiction Awareness Scholarship
Sponsor: Digital Responsibility
Amount: $1,000
Closing Date: January 30, 2017
Description: Scholarship is open to current high school and college students. Applicant must submit a short statement about technology addiction.

I Have a Dream Scholarship
Sponsor: Unigo
Amount: $1,500
Closing Date: January 31, 2017
Description: Applicant must be 13 years of age or older, be a resident of the 50 United States or the District of Columbia, and be currently enrolled (or enroll no later than the fall of 2023) in an accredited post-secondary institution of higher education. Applicant must submit a short essay (250 words or less) about a dream.

PeanutPaws Scholarship
Sponsor: PeanutPaws
Amount: $500
Closing Date: January 31, 2017
Description: Scholarship is open to U.S. citizens and current residents of the United States who are graduating high school seniors or current college students. Applicant must have a dog or grew up with a dog. Applicant must submit an essay on a topic related to dogs.

Princeton Prize in Race Relations
Sponsor: Alumni Association of Princeton
Amount: $1,000
Closing Date: January 31, 2017
Description: Award is for students currently enrolled in ninth through twelfth grades in a participating region (see website for eligible areas) who have been actively involved in a volunteer activity that has had a significant, positive impact on race relations in their school or community.

  1. I wanted to tell you thank you so much for all of your hard work listing all of these scholarships. My daughter just won the Snap Agency scholarship for $1,000 she found listed on this site. That is such an amazing feeling considering she is only a junior in high school!

  2. We are running into some good luck this week!! My daughter got another email this week letting her know she won a Do Something campaign for $5,000!!!
