Scholarships for students with disabilities and/or health conditions
Students with disabilities and/or health conditions have a lot of barriers that other students may not. Sometimes these barriers include financial burdens due to medical costs. Luckily, there are many organizations and companies that want to help students (and sometimes their family members) with the cost of higher education by providing scholarships.
I have put together lists of scholarships available to students with disabilities and health conditions. As always, the lists will continue to grow as more scholarships are introduced and start accepting applications. In addition, scholarships will be taken off the list as they expire. I have divided the scholarships to make it easier to find scholarships open to you. Below are the new scholarship lists available:
There are many scholarships open to students with disabilities. The majority of the scholarships on this list are general disability scholarships, but there are some scholarships on the list open to specific physical disabilities.
There are many scholarships available to students with health conditions. For example, you will find scholarships open to students affected by cancer, diabetes, and heart disease, just to name a few. In addition, many of the scholarships on this list are also open to students who are closely related (parents, siblings, etc.) to individuals with these health conditions.
Many of the scholarships on this list are for students who are legally blind. However, as scholarships open for students who wear glasses and/or contact lenses (there are scholarships like this, but they are not open right now), they will be added to this list as well.
For students with any type of hearing impairment, you will find scholarships on this list for you.
Mental illness is something that many students face everyday. This can include depress, bipolar disorder, or post-traumatic stress syndrome, just to name a few.
Students with learning disabilities (dyslexia, dysgraphia, ADHD, etc.) and cognitive disabilities (autism, down syndrome, etc.) sometimes have difficulty in traditional classrooms. However, many students do not let these things stop them from gaining a college education and this is why there are scholarship providers that want to help them pay for college.
If you or someone you know has a disability or has battled a health condition, check out these scholarships and check back often to see if new scholarships have been added to the list. If you know of a scholarship that is not on the list, please contact me and let me know so that I can add it to the list to help others.
