If you do, DoSomething has many campaigns to make a difference, and for participating, you will be entered to win a scholarship! Below are the campaigns with May 2016 deadlines.

Doggie DIY
School Grant Amount: $1,000
Deadline: May 27, 2017
About: Chew toys make dogs more playful, which increases their chances of being adopted. Dogs just wanna have fun!
How to enter: Applicant must use the step-by-step instructions to make a toy and then drop it off at your local shelter. For each toy, the applicant will receive an entry for the scholarship.

World Recycle Week: Close the Loop
Scholarship Amount: $5,000
Deadline: May 31, 2016
About: 11.1 million tons of recyclable fabric and textiles end up in landfills every year, even though the vast majority of this can be recycled.
How to enter: Clean out your closet to help the planet and enter to win a scholarship. DoSomething will give you all of the information you need to donate and recycle your old clothes. For every 50 items of clothing you donate, you will get an entry for the scholarship.

Four-Legged Finishers
Scholarship Amount: $5,000
Deadline: May 31, 2016
About: Cats and dogs are twice as likely to get cancer if their owners smoke because of exposure to second- and third-hand smoke – both of which are toxic to pets.
How to enter: Take a picture of your pet (or any animal) and give it a caption that shows how smoking effects pets’ health. Share your picture and you’ll be entered to win the scholarship.

The Less Stress Text
Scholarship Amount: $2,000
Deadline: May 31, 2016
About: Finals time is super stressful for high school and college students. That’s why your friends need your help staying calm.
How to enter: Send DoSomething’s stress-busting tips to three of your friends. For every three friends you share tips with, you earn another entry to win the scholarship.

More scholarships with later deadlines

Birthday Mail
Scholarship Amount: $5,000
Deadline: June 30, 2016
About: 2.5 million U.S. youth experience homelessness every year. Many kids’ birthdays fall while they are in a shelter, making it hard to celebrate.
How to enter: Applicant must make a card to make a child smile on their birthday. For every two cards, applicant will receive an entry for the scholarship. Applicant can get up to five entries for the scholarship (10 cards).

Planet Zombies
Scholarship Amount: $2,000
Deadline: June 30, 2016
About: Low-income communities are hit hardest by natural disasters, making them the most vulnerable to the effects of climate change.
How to enter: Play a zombie apocalypse game on your phone and send the fun game to three of your friends. You will also learn a thing or two about climate justice. You’ll automatically be entered to win the scholarship.

Shower Songs
Scholarship Amount: $3,000
Deadline: June 30, 2016
About: Americans use more than a TRILLION gallons of water for showering each year. That’s enough to supply all the water needs of New Jersey and the Empire State.
How to enter: Applicant must make a five-minute playlist to remind friends to take shorter showers! Applicant must sent the playlist to someone they know so they can keep their showers under five minutes. Applicant can receive unlimited entries.

Context Clues
Scholarship Amount: $5,000
Deadline: July 31, 2016
About: If students don’t read over the summer, their reading skills can slip. That makes learning much harder when school starts again in the fall.
How to enter: Sign up to play a texting game where you’ll use your reading skills to crack the code of a mysterious locked box. By playing and sharing the game with friends, you can gain an entry for the scholarship.

While there is no GPA, test score, or essay requirements, there are some eligibility requirements students must meet to enter any of the above scholarship opportunities:

  • US or Canadian citizens, regardless of residence OR reside in the U.S. or Canada.
  • 13 to 25 years of age.

The above scholarship contests are easy to enter and you’ll be making a difference. Check them out and participate before the deadline.
