There are thousands of scholarships out there. Some are large scholarships that are well publicized, while others are lesser known. My goal is to share some lesser-known scholarships with my readers every Saturday.

Description: Scholarship is open to graduating high school seniors and current undergraduate or graduate students. Applicant must submit a digital photo (or photos) and short description that describes your life’s dream.

Turner Pest Control Scholarship

Description: Scholarship is open to incoming or current college students. Applicant must submit an essay on a given topic related to how advancing technology will change how local businesses run their businesses.

Actuarial Diversity Scholarship

Amount: Up to $4,000
Deadline: May 2, 2016
Description: Scholarship is open to current undergraduate students who have an intent on pursing a career in the actuarial profession. Applicant must also have at least one birth parent who is a member of one of the following minority groups: Black/African-American, Hispanic, Native North American, or Pacific Islander.

Chandler Contest
Sponsor: Religion Newswriters Association
Amount: Up to $600
Deadline: May 2, 2016 – extended to May 9, 2016
Description: Contest is open to full-time and part-time students who have never been employed as reporters or editors at general circulation newspapers (internships do not affect eligibility). Applicant must submit three religion stories published in the 2015-16 academic year in campus newspapers and magazines or in general circulation newspapers during a student internship.

Demas Law Group Scholarship

Description: Scholarships is open to graduating high school seniors and current college students. Applicant must submit an application, a short introduction and a personal essay.

JASC Scholarships
Sponsor: Japanese American Service Committee

Description: Scholarship is open to high school seniors and current college students who have a current JASC Family member or their own Student/Individual membership. Applicant must also be a resident of the State of Illinois for at least one year prior to graduate or graduate from an accredited Illinois high school.

Kathy Pace Technology Scholarship

Description: Scholarship is open to incoming freshmen and current college students who are pursuing a technology related degree at an accredited college in Texas or Louisiana.

Pedro Zamora Young Leaders Scholarship
Sponsor: National AIDS Memorial Grove
Amount: Up to $5,000
Deadline: May 2, 2016
Description: Scholarship is open to current high school seniors, and college freshman, sophomores and juniors (ages 27 and younger) who demonstrate an active commitment to fighting HIV/AIDS and taking on roles of public service and leadership.

Stephen Phillips Memorial Scholarship
Sponsor: The Stephen Phillips Memorial Scholarship Fund
Amount: Up to $18,000
Deadline: May 2, 2016
Description: Scholarship is open to entering or returning students at an accredited undergraduate institution in the United States. Applicant must be a resident of a New England state: Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island or Vermont.

High School Senior Scholarship Essay Contest

Amount: Up to $3,000
Deadline: May 4, 2016
Description: Scholarship is open to graduating high school seniors who intend to attend college. Applicant must submit an essay on self-responsibility.

NURSE Corps Scholarship Program
Sponsor: U.S. Department of health and Human Services
Amount: Monthly stipend of $1,330 for the 2016-2017 academic year
Deadline: May 5, 2016
Description: Scholarship is open to U.S. citizens, national or lawful permanent residents who are enrolled or accepted for enrollment in a professional nursing degree program at an accredited school of nursing located in the United States.

BIAW Education Program
Sponsor: Building Industry Association of Washington
Amount: Varies
Deadline: May 6, 2016
Description: Scholarship is open to Washington state residents who will be attending post-secondary education with an emphasis in the construction-related industry.

The Soozie Courter Hemophilia Scholarship Program
Sponsor: Pfizer Hemophilia
Amount: Up to $4,000
Deadline: May 6, 2016
Description: Scholarship is open to students who have been diagnosed with hemophilia A or hemophilia B.

Tim Smith Memorial Scholarship for Accounting and Finance Students
Sponsor: Colorado Fiscal Managers’ Association (CFMA)
Amount: $1,000
Deadline: May 6, 2016 – extended to May 18, 2016
Description: Scholarship is open to students who are Colorado residents entering their sophomore, junior or senior year of undergraduate study at a state supported higher education institution in Colorado. Applicant must be enrolled in a degree program with a declared major in the area of accounting, finance, or other financial management study.

TMCF | Wells Fargo Scholarship
Sponsor: Thurgood Marshall Scholarship Fund
Amount: $7,000
Deadline: May 6, 2016
Description: Scholarship is open to students enrolled as a sophomore, junior or senior at one of TMCF’s 47 member-schools during the 2016-2017 school year. Scholarship is open to all majors with preference given to Business and Finance majors.

Models of Excellence Scholarship
Sponsor: Friends of Project 10
Amount: Up to $3,000
Deadline: May 7, 2016
Description: Scholarship is open to graduating high school seniors who have advanced the civil rights of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) population. Applicant must reside in Southern California.
