There are thousands of scholarships out there. Some are large scholarships that are well publicized, while others are lesser known. My goal is to share some lesser-known scholarships with my readers every Saturday.

Description: Scholarship is open to high school and college students attending school in the United States. Applicant must submit an essay explaining by they should receive the scholarship.

NCWIT Award for Aspirations
Sponsors: National Center for Women & Information Technology
Amount: $500
Deadline: Oct. 26, 2015
Description: Award is open to any U.S. high school woman in grades 9 through 12. Applicant must be active and interested in computing and technology.

American Association of Japanese University Women Scholarship Program
Sponsors: American Association of Japanese University Women
Amount: $2,000
Deadline: Oct. 31, 2015
Description: Scholarship is open to female students with junior, senior or graduate standing for the 2015-2016 school year at an accredited California college or university. Applicant must demonstrate a desire and intent to fulfill a leadership role in her chosen field of study and be a contributor to the betterment of U.S.-Japan relations and cultural exchanges.

American Bullion Scholarship Program

Amount: $500
Deadline: Oct. 31, 2015
Description: Scholarship is open to students currently enrolled at an accredited college or university within the United States. Applicant must submit an essay on a given topic related to gold and retirement.

Best Value Schools STEM Scholarship for Women
Sponsors: Best Value Schools
Amount: $2,000
Deadline: Oct. 31, 2015
Description: Scholarship is open to female students currently attending or enrolled at an accredited post-secondary institution (undergraduate or graduate) who are majoring in a science, technology, engineering or mathematics program (STEM). Only the first 50 completed applications received will be considered.

Boyk Law Veteran Scholarship
Sponsors: Charles E. Boyk Law Offices, LLC
Amount: $2,000
Deadline: Oct. 31, 2015
Description: Scholarship is open to children and stepchildren of US veterans or those who are veterans themselves. Applicant must be attending an accredited college or university with at least one semester already completed.

Buildium’s Women in Technology Scholarship

Amount: $2,500
Deadline: Oct. 31, 2015
Description: Scholarship is open to college or university students in good standing at an accredited public or private U.S. university. Applicant must be enrolled in a Product Design, Interaction Design, User Experience Design, Engineering, or Computer Science degree program (undergraduate or graduate).

Career Step Scholarship

Amount: $2,000
Deadline: Oct. 31, 2015
Description: Scholarship is open to graduating high school seniors who plan on attending an accredited college or university. Applicant must submit an essay or video on how they plan to use their education to benefit their family and/or community.

CARiD Scholarship

Amount: $1,000
Deadline: Oct. 31, 2015
Description: Scholarship is open to students enrolled in post-secondary education in the upcoming semester who are between the ages of 16 and 20 years old. Applicant must submit a photo inspired by any aspect of the automotive industry.

Coca-Cola Scholars Program Scholarship
Sponsors: Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation
Amount: Up to $20,000
Deadline: Oct. 31, 2015
Description: Scholarship is open to current high school (or home-schooled) seniors attending school in the United States carrying a minimum 3.00 GPA at the end of their junior year of high school.

GTFO Scholarship
Sponsors: Do Something
Amount: $10,000
Deadline: Oct. 31, 2015
Description: According to sources, “About 1.69 billion pounds of butts end up as toxic trash each year. Cigarettes = the most littered item on Earth.” Do Something will send the student a free action kit. Applicant must clean up cigarette butts they find anywhere and submit a photo as proof. For every bag (approximately 250 cigarette butts) the student collects, they receive a chance for the scholarship, up to four chances.

Havahart Wireless Scholarship Award

Deadline: Oct. 31, 2015
Description: Scholarship is open to students enrolled at an accredited college or university in the United States who are legal residents of the United States or hold a valid student visa. Applicant must submit an essay on one of several given prompts relating to pets.

MyProjectorLamps Scholarship

Amount: $500
Deadline: Oct. 31, 2015
Description: Scholarship is open to graduating high school seniors and current college students who are at least 16 years of age. Applicant must submit an essay on a given topic related to the use of multimedia and data visualization in K-12 classrooms.

National Poetry Competition 2015

Deadline: Oct. 31, 2015
Description: Competition is open to anyone 17 years of age or older. Individuals from all countries are welcome to submit a previously unpublished poem.

Veterans United Foundation Scholarship
Sponsors: Veterans United Home Loans
Amount: $2,000
Deadline: Oct. 31, 2015
Description: Scholarship is open to current active-duty service members, veterans of the United States Armed Forces, spouses of a service member or veteran, surviving spouse or child of a fallen service member, or children of a service member or veteran. Applicant must also be currently pursuing a post-secondary degree at an accredited college or university, or plan to attend a college or university in the following academic year.

Zombie Apocalypse Scholarship
Sponsors: Unigo
Amount: $2,000
Deadline: Oct. 31, 2015
Description: Scholarship is open to students 13 years of age or older who are legal residents of the 50 United States or the District of Columbia who are currently enrolled (or will enroll no later than the fall of 2021) in an accredited post-secondary institution of higher education. Applicant will need to submit a short response to a given prompt.

  1. If you have any money left over after paying for tuition and fees can you have it ?

  2. After you get scolarships ship money and pay for tor tuition and fees can you keep the leftovers?

    • It all depends on the specific scholarship. Some are very specific and say that money can only go towards expenses that are directly paid to the institution. Other scholarships say it can go towards any educational purpose. To be sure, you should check directly with the scholarship provider.
