Being an athlete requires a lot of time and dedication. Some students are able to secure athletic scholarships from the college or university they will be attending, but others are not. Luckily there are some scholarships out there specifically for students who participate in sports.

Below are 33 college scholarships for athletes. Some are specific sports, while others are open to any sport. Only brief information is listed. Therefore, students are encouraged to visit the scholarship website to get further details about eligibility and requirements. In addition, some deadlines have passed, but many of the scholarships are offered every year.

Baseball/Softball
Dixie Boys Baseball Scholarship Program
Sponsor: Dixie Baseball
Amount: $1,250
Deadline: Apr. 1
Description: Scholarship is open to outstanding high school seniors who at one time participated in a franchised Dixie Boys Baseball, Inc. program and plan to pursue undergraduate studies at a college or university.

American Legion Baseball Scholarship

Description: Scholarship is open to high school seniors who play baseball and are nominated by a head coach or manager.

Babe Ruth League Scholarship
Sponsor: Babe Ruth League Inc.
Amount: $1,000

Description: Scholarship is open to high school seniors and current college students. Applicant must have participated in a Cal Ripken Baseball, Babe Ruth Baseball or Babe Ruth Softball League anytime during the ages of 4-18.

Jaime Horn Memorial Softball Scholarship

Deadline: Sept. 1
Description: Scholarship is open to high school senior girls who played Babe Ruth League softball.

NABF Scholarships

Description: Scholarship is open to students enrolled in an accredited college or university in good standing. Applicant must be a current participant in a league properly sanctioned and sponsored by a NABF member association.

Description: Scholarship is open to amateur bowlers who are currently in college and maintain at least a 2.5 GPA.

Columbia 300 John Jowdy Scholarship Program

Description: Scholarship is open to high school seniors who are actively involved in bowling. Scholarship is open to international and U.S. students.

USBC Youth Scholarships

Description: Scholarships are open to students who are members of USBC and active bowlers. Multiple scholarships available with different eligibility requirements – see website for details.

Football
Metro Youth Football Association Scholarship

Description: Scholarship is open to high school seniors who are current or former Metro Youth Tackle Football (MYTF) participants. Applicant must be a current high school football player who have a GPA or 2.5 or higher and have plans to pursue post-secondary education.

The First Tee Scholars Program

Description: Applicant must be a graduating high school senior who is a junior golfer of The First Tee who excel in academics, leadership, character development, and chapter and community involvement.

Women’s Western Golf Foundation Scholarship

Amount: $8,000 ($2,000 per year)
Deadline: Mar. 1
Description: Applicant must be a female high school senior who participates in golf.

Par Aide’s Joseph S. Garske Collegiate Grant Program

Description: Applicant must be a graduating high school senior and accepted at an institution of higher learning for the upcoming year. One or more of the applicant’s parents or step-parents must have been a GCSAA member for five or more consecutive years and must be a current GCSAA member.

Description: Scholarship is open to graduating high school seniors who participate in golf. Applicant must provide financial need information.

Description: Scholarship is open to students enrolled in a recognized undergraduate program in a major field related to turf management. Applicant must also be a member of GCSAA.

Chick Evans Scholarship for Caddies

Description: Scholarship is open to students who have a strong caddie record and excellent academics. Applicant must have completed their junior year of high school with above a B average.
