There are thousands of scholarships out there. Some are large scholarships that are well publicized, while others are lesser known. My goal is to share some lesser-known scholarships with my readers every Saturday.

Description: Contest is open to middle school and high school students who are service-minded scholars. Applicants must complete at least five hours of community service. Student can submit an essay or art work on a given topic related to volunteering and public service.

ScholarshipRed – The Scholarship for Redheads

Description: Scholarship is open to high school juniors and seniors who are natural redheads. Applicant must have a GPA of 2.5 or higher and will be applying to a two our four-year college.

Los Hermanos de Stanford Scholarship

Description: Scholarship is open to Latino/Latina students who are graduating from high school with plans to attend any two-year or four-year institution of higher education.

UCB Family Epilepsy Scholarship Program

Description: Scholarship is open to students living with epilepsy or students who are a family member or caregiver of a person living with epilepsy. Applicant must be seeking an associate’s, undergraduate, or graduate degree program during the fall of 2015.

Description: Scholarship is open to graduating high school seniors who participate in golf. Applicant must provide financial need information.

Alphonso Deal Scholarship

Description: Scholarship is open to high school seniors who are U.S. citizens and of good character. Applicant must have been accepted by a college or university with the intent to obtain higher education training in the academics of law enforcement, or other related areas, for the betterment of the Criminal Justice system.

Francis Maria Scholarship

Description: Scholarship is open to Antiochian Orthodox Christian students attending an accredited college or university. Applicant must submit an application and a short autobiographical essay.

Friends In Art Scholarship

Description: Scholarship is open to high school seniors who are legally blind or visually impaired and are planning to, or are currently majoring in, the field of music, art, drama, or creative writing. Description: Scholarship is open to female high school seniors who will enroll in college in Fall 2015. Applicant must have played high school golf and intends to play on a college golf team.

Heinlein Society Scholarship

Description: Scholarship is open to full-time undergraduate students enrolled in an accredited college that awards Bachelor of Science or Arts degrees. Applicant’s major must be Science Fiction as Literature or Engineering, Math or Physical Sciences.

James Bard Foundation Scholarship Program

Description: Scholarship is open to high school seniors or graduates who plan to enroll or who are already enrolled at least part-time during the 2015-16 academic year in a course of study leading to an associate or baccalaureate degree at a licensed or accredited culinary school.

Jane Austen Society of North America Essay Contest

Description: Contest is open to students world-wide who are enrolled in high school, college/university, or graduate school. Student must submit an essay on the theme, “Living in Jane Austen’s World.”

KODAK Student Scholarship Award

Description: Scholarship award is open to university or college students of film or film production at the undergraduate or graduate levels in a degree or diploma program. Applicant must be nominated by the school department or program official.

Legacy Scholarship Program

Description: Scholarship is open to students who are 18-35 and have lost a parent or guardian to cancer. An exception will be made if you are 17 years of age and entering college in the fall of 2015.

NCCF Survivor Scholarship Program

Description: Scholarship is open to students who are 18-35 and are cancer survivors or current patients. An exception will be made if you are 17 years of age and entering college in the fall of 2015.

Society of Women Engineers Scholarships for Freshmen Students

Description: Scholarships are open to women who are current college freshmen pursing an ABET-accedited baccalaureate degree in engineering, engineering technology, and computer science in the United States and Mexico. Student should visit website for specific requirements as the organization offers numerous scholarships.

Stephen Bufton Memorial Educational Fund Scholarships

Description: Scholars program is open to graduating high school seniors who are African American/Black and have financial need.
