There are thousands of scholarships out there. Some are large scholarships that are well publicized, while others are lesser known. My goal is to share some lesser-known scholarships with my readers every Saturday.

Therefore, you are encouraged to visit the scholarship websites to get further details about eligibility and requirements.

APCA Scholarship Program

Award Amount: Up to $2,000
Deadline: Feb. 15, 2015
Description: Scholarship is open to graduating high school seniors with a GPA of 3.0 or higher who are United State citizens or permanent residents of the United States. Applicant must reside in states where there are currently APCA chapters (specific locations available on website).

DCHA Higher Education Scholarship
Sponsor: Dairy Calf and Heifer Association
Award Amount: $1,000
Deadline: Feb. 20, 2015
Description: Applicant must be a member of DCHA, or the son, daughter or legal dependent of a DCHA member. Applicant must be currently enrolled in an agriculture-related field at an accredited college or university.

Minorities in Government Finance Scholarship
Sponsor: Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA)
Award Amount: $7,000
Deadline: Feb. 20, 2015
Description: Applicant must be a current undergraduate or graduate student in public administration, governmental accounting, finance, political science, economics or business administration. Applicant must be Black or African American, Indian or Alaska Native, Native Hawaiian or other Pacific Islander, Hispanic or Latino.

Shui Kuen and Allen Chin Scholarship
Sponsor: Asian Pacific Fund
Award Amount: $1,000
Deadline: Feb. 20, 2015
Description: Scholarship is available to full-time undergraduate students enrolled at an accredited college or university in the United States. Applicant must be working, or have worked, in an Asian-owned or Asian cuisine resident, or have at least one parent who worked or is working in one.

Team Type1 Foundation Scholarship
Sponsor: Team Type! Foundation
Award Amount: $5,000
Deadline: Feb. 20, 2015
Description: Applicant must have Type 1 diabetes who attends (or will attend) an accredited NCAA/NAIA institution where the applicant will compete in an NCAA/NAIA sport.

Vegetarian Resource Group Scholarship
Sponsor: Vegetarian Resource Group
Award Amount: Up to $10,000
Deadline: Feb. 20, 2015
Description: Applicant must be a U.S. high school senior graduating in the spring of 2015. Applicant must be a vegetarian and have promoted vegetarianism in their school and/or community.

Bake Sales for Babies Scholarship
Sponsor: Do Something
Award Amount: $3,000
Deadline: Feb. 22, 2015
Description: Applicant must be 26 years of age or younger. Applicant must host a bake sale with proceeds going towards the United Nations Refugee Agency (UNHCR) and the Karam Foundation. The funds will go towards warm clothing, thermal blankets, support services, and formula for babies in the Syria region. After the sale, donate the funds online and submit a photo of the sale. For every ten dollars raised, a student gets a chance at the scholarship

Bobette Bibo Gugliotta Memorial Scholarship for Creative Writing
Sponsor: Silicon Valley Community Foundation
Award Amount: $1,000
Deadline: Feb. 25, 2015
Description: Scholarship is open to graduating seniors and graduates of public or private high schools in San Mateo or Santa Clara Counties who are planning to enroll or are currently enrolled in a four-year college or university as a full-time student. Applicant must submit two writing samples.

Buick Achievers Scholarship Program
Sponsor: Scholarship America
Award Amount: Up to $25,000 per year, renewable for up to four years.
Deadline: Feb. 27, 2015
Description: Applicant must be a high school senior, high school graduate, or a current postsecondary undergraduate student enrolled full-time in undergraduate study at an accredited four-year college or university. Applicant must be majoring in (or planning to major in) a course of study that focuses on Engineering, Technology, or select Design or Business related programs of study.

Church’s Chicken Community Scholarship Program
Sponsor: Church’s Chicken
Award Amount: $1,000
Deadline: Feb. 27, 2015
Description: Applicant must live in one of the 18 states where Church’s Chicken does business, is a graduating high school senior, and have a 2.7 GPA.

CISCO Scholarship Award Program for High School Seniors
Sponsor: Construction Industry Service Corporation (CISCO)
Award Amount: $2,000
Deadline: Feb. 27, 2015
Description: Scholarship is open to children of building trade union members and employees of union contractors. Applicant must be a high school senior who is a U.S. citizen and has been provisionally accepted as a full-time student into an undergraduate degree program at a four-year accredited college or university.

John Lennon Scholarship
Sponsor: BMI Foundation
Award Amount: Varies
Deadline: Feb. 27, 2015
Description: Applicant must be a current student or alumnus/alumna of a U.S. college or university who is between the ages of 17 and 24 at the time of submission. Applicant must submit an original song with lyrics accompanied by whatever instrumentation is chosen by the applicant.

Spirit of Anne Frank Scholarship Award
Sponsor: Anne Frank Center USA
Award Amount: Up to $10,000
Deadline: Feb. 27, 2015
Description: Applicant must be a high school senior who will be attending a four-year college in the Fall of 2015. Applicant must exhibit extraordinary leadership in their school and community and a meaningful effort to address issues of social justice.

100 Black Men of America Future Leader Scholarship Program
Sponsor: 100 Black Men of America, Inc.
Award Amount: Up to $3,000
Deadline: Feb. 28, 2015
Description: Applicant must be a high school senior transitioning to college or a current undergraduate student. Applicant must have completed 50 hours of “active” community service within the past 12 months with certified documentation. The organization provides scholarships to deserving college students on an equal opportunity basis regardless of race, sex, creed, or religious preference.

Congressional Black Caucus Spouses General Mills Health Scholarship
Sponsor: Congressional Black Caucus (CBC) Foundation
Award Amount: $2,500
Deadline: Feb. 28, 2015
Description: Applicant must plan to enroll or be a student who is already enrolled in a full-time undergraduate or graduate field of study in medicine, engineering, technology, nutrition or another health-related field at an accredited two-year or four-year college, university, or vocational-technical school for the entire upcoming academic year. Applicant must live in a Congressional Black Caucus (CBC) district (look-up available at website).

Description: Scholarship is open to juniors and seniors in high school or college students with a minimum GPA of 2.5. Applicant must explain in 250 words or less why they believe they should be awarded the scholarship.

Distinguished Raven FAC Memorial Scholarship

Deadline: Feb. 28, 2015
Description: Applicant must be a descendant or legal wards of any Lao or Hmong individual who served in the Royal Laotian Military or Hmong forces in defense of the Kingdom of Laos between 1960 and 1975. Applicant must also be a high school senior or graduate, and must be enrolled or actively seeking to enroll full-time in the coming academic year in an undergraduate program at an accredited college.

Description: Award is open to high school students worldwide who can demonstrate environmental stewardship, leadership, and volunteerism as expressed through an Earth Day project.

Description: The award is available to students between the ages of eight and 16 who exhibit environmental activism. Applicant must carry out an action-based and self-initiated project that concerns environmental health, advocacy, research, or protection of the natural world.

EDvestinU National Scholarship Giveaway

Sweet & Simple Scholarship

Description: Applicant must be 13 years of age or older, be a resident of the 50 United States or the District of Columbia, and be currently enrolled (or enroll no later than the fall of 2021) in an accredited post-secondary institution of higher education. Tesoro Youth Leadership Award

Description: Contest is open to students 16-19 years of age. Applicant must write an essay based on a U.S. history text from a list available on the contest website.

College Student Scholarship Sweepstakes

Deadline: Feb. 28, 2015. Scholarship is offered every month with deadline being the last day of the month.
Description: Applicant must be currently enrolled in an accredited college located in the United States. Applicant must also be 18 years of age or older and a permanent, legal U.S. resident.
