There are thousands of scholarships out there. Some are large scholarships that are well publicized, while others are lesser known. My goal is to share some lesser-known scholarships with my readers every Saturday.

Microsoft Scholarship Program

Award Amount: Up to full tuition. Recipient will be required to apply for a summer internship and if offered, must complete the internship at Microsoft Corporation in Redmond, Washington.
Deadline: Jan. 30, 2015
Description: Applicant must be enrolled full time in a Bachelor’s degree program at a four-year college or university in the United States, Canada, or Mexico. Applicant must be working towards an undergraduate degree in computer science, computer engineering, or a related technical discipline such as electrical engineering, math, or physics.

Selma Speech & Essay Contest
Sponsor: National Liberty Museum
Award Amount: Up to $5,000
Deadline: Jan. 30, 2015
Description: Contest is open to U.S. high school students ages 14-18 who are enrolled in a public, private or parochial high school or home study program in the United States or its territories. Applicant must watch the movie Selma (and save the ticket stub to show as proof) and submit an essay and speech (reading of the essay) on a given topic related to the protection of individual freedom and self-determination.

SoundOut Social Media Scholarship

Award Amount: $1,000
Deadline: Jan. 30, 2015
Description: Scholarship is open to high school seniors, college undergraduate and graduate-level students attending school in the United States or Canada. Applicant must formulate a social media campaign for a company.

“Frugal Student” Scholarship

Award Amount: $2,000
Deadline: Feb. 01, 2015, now due Dec. 31, 2015
Description: Scholarship is open to students who are currently enrolled in a college or university. Applicant must submit a short essay (150 words) describing the most unique or interesting thing they have done to make or save extra money.

Abercrombie & Fitch Anti-Bullying Scholarship
Sponsor: National Society of High School Scholars (NSHSS) Foundation
Award Amount: $2,500
Deadline: Feb. 01, 2015
Description: Applicant must be a high school senior with a minimum GPA of 3.0. Applicant must submit an application, educator recommendation, resume and essay related to bullying.

ASRT Foundation Scholarship
Sponsor: American Society of Radiologic Technologists (ASRT) Foundation
Award Amount: Varies
Deadline: Feb. 1, 2015
Description: Foundation has over 60 scholarships available for the 2015-2016 academic year. Awards are available for all types of radiologic science students regardless of specific area of interest.

AXA Achievement Community Scholarship
Sponsor: AXA Foundation
Award Amount: $2,500
Deadline: Feb. 1, 2015
Description: Applicant must be a current high school senior who plans to enroll full-time at an accredited two-year or four-year college or university in the United States for the entire 2015-2016 academic year. Applicant must demonstrate ambition and self-drive as evidenced by outstanding achievement in school, community or work-related activities.

CPF College Scholarships

Deadline: Feb. 1, 2015
Description: Applicant must be a current college or graduate school student with craniofacial anomalies, such as a cleft palate and cleft lip.

eSchoolView Student Scholarship

Award Amount: Up to $5,000
Deadline: Feb. 1, 2015
Description: Applicant must be a high school senior with an interest in pursuing graphic design, web design or development. Applicant must create a homepage and an interior page for a website related to a school class or club that does not already exist.

Jack Kent Cooke Young Artist Award

Deadline: Feb. 1, 2015
Description: Award is open to classical instrumentalists, vocalists, and composers between the ages of 8 and 18 who have not yet entered college during the 2014-2015 academic year.

John F. and Anna Lee Stacey Scholarship Fund for Art Education

Award Amount: $5,000
Deadline: Feb. 1, 2015
Description: Applicant must be a U.S. citizen between the ages of 18 and 35 years old. Applicant must be pursuing a profession in visual arts.

Naomi Winston Scholarship in Art

Award Amount: $5,000
Deadline: Feb. 1, 2015
Description: Applicant must be a U.S. citizen between the ages of 16 and 22 years of age. Applicant must submit two-dimensional, original artworks.

National Garden Clubs College Scholarships

Award Amount: $3,500
Deadline: Feb. 1, 2015
Description: Applicant must be college junior, senior, or graduate student attending an accredited college or university. Applicant must be planning a career related to gardening, landscape design, environmental issues, floral design, or horticulture.

Raytheon Patriot Scholarship 
Sponsor: Student Veterans of America (SVA)
Award Amount: $10,000
Deadline: Feb. 1, 2015
Description: Applicant must be a U.S. Army veteran entering sophomore, junior or senior year of undergraduate study, or enrolled in a graduate program for the 2015-2016 academic year.

Shirley Rabb Winston Scholarship in Voice
Sponsor: National Society of Arts and Letters
Award Amount: $5,000
Deadline: Feb. 1, 2015
Description: Applicant must be a U.S. citizen between the ages of 16 and 22 years of age. Applicant must submit a ten-minute vocal performance.

SportQuest Playing With Purpose Scholarship
Sponsor: SportQuest Ministries Inc.
Award Amount: Up to $2,000
Deadline: Feb. 1, 2015
Description: Applicant must be a current high school sophomore, junior or senior who maintains a minimum “C” grade average or higher. Applicant must also be a currently varsity level athlete in one or more sport and a committed follower of Christ who embodies the Playing with Purpose message.

Worthy Goal Scholarship
Sponsor: International Food Service Executives Association (IFSEA)
Award Amount: Up to $1,500
Deadline: Feb. 1, 2015
Description: Scholarship is open to high school seniors and current college students who are enrolled or accepted as a full-time student in a food service-related major.
