There are thousands of scholarships out there. Some are large scholarships that are well publicized, while others are lesser known. My goal is to share some lesser-known scholarships with my readers every Saturday.

2015 Making Life Easier Scholarship

Description: Applicant must be a high school senior or enrolled in undergraduate or graduate studies between the ages of 16 and 26. Applicant must be associated with select community partners (listed on website).

Stick or Treat Contest
Sponsor: ShurTech Brands, LLC
Amount: $1,000
Deadline: Oct. 31, 2014
Description: Contest is open to people ages 14 and older. Contestant must submit an image of Halloween craft, decoration, costume or jack-o-lantern decorated with Duck Tape.

Boettcher Foundation Scholarship Program
Sponsor: Boettcher
Amount: Varies – up to full tuition
Deadline: Nov. 1, 2014
Description: Applicant must be a Colorado high school senior. Applicant must show superior scholastic ability, evidence of potential leadership, and service to community and school.

Berrien Fragos Thorn Arts Scholarship for Migrant Farmworkers
Sponsor: Geneseo Migrant Center
Award: Up to $2,500
Deadline: Nov. 1, 2014
Description: Applicant must be a migrant farmworker with financial need and desire to foster to creative talents.

Champions for Christ Scholarship

Award: Varies
Deadline: Nov. 1, 2014
Description: Applicant must be current college student who is planning on going into full-time Christian ministry.

GMP Memorial Scholarship Fund
Sponsor: Glass, Molders, Pottery, Plastics & Allied Workers (GMP) International
Award: $4,000
Deadline: Nov. 1, 2014
Description: Applicant must be a child, stepchild, or adopted child of a GMP member. Applicant must be a senior year of high school.

HubShout Internet Marketing Scholarship

Award: $1,000
Deadline: Nov. 1, 2014
Description: Applicant must have completed at least one year of post-secondary education and have at least a 3.0 GPA. Applicant must be on the path to a business or marketing career that will involve online marketing.

Patriot’s Pen Youth Contest
Sponsor: Veterans of Foreign Wars
Award: Up to $5,000
Deadline: Nov. 1, 2014
Description: Contest is open to students in grades 6-8 who are enrolled in a public, private or parochial school or home study program in the United States and its territories. Contestant must submit essay on the theme, “Why I Appreciate America’s Veterans.”

Proof-Reading.com Scholarship Program

Award: $1,500
Deadline: Nov. 1, 2014
Description: Applicant must be current full-time student at an accredited four-year college or university in the United States. Applicant must submit an essay with at least 1,500 words.

Ron Brown Scholarship
Sponsor: Ron Brown Scholar Program
Award: $10,000 – Renewable for four years
Deadline: Nov. 1, 2014
Description: Scholarship is open to economically challenged African American high school seniors. Applicant must exhibit exceptional leadership potential and participate in community service activities.

Voice of Democracy Scholarship Competition
Sponsor: Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States
Award: First Place – $30,000; Other national winners can win $1,000 to $16,000
Deadline: Nov. 1, 2014
Description: Contest is open to students in grades 9-12 who are enrolled in a public, private or parochial high school or home study program in the United States and its territories. Contestants must submit a recorded, original speech on the theme “Why Veterans are Important to our Nation’s History and Future.”

Young Writers Awards
Sponsor: Bennington College
Award: Up to $500
Deadline: Nov. 1, 2014
Description: Open to students in 10th, 11th, and 12th grades. Students may submit a poem, work of fiction (a short story or one-act play), or nonfiction work (a personal or academic essay).

NCWIT Award
Sponsor: National Center for Women & Information Technology
Award: $500
Deadline: Nov. 2, 2014
Description: Open to girls in grades 9-12 who have demonstrated outstanding aptitude and interest in IT/computing, leadership and have a GPA of at least 3.0.

AGC Education and Research Foundation Undergraduate Scholarship
Sponsor: Associated General Contractors (AGC) Education and Research Foundation
Award: $2,500
Deadline: Nov. 3, 2014
Description: Applicant must current college student with at least one full academic year of coursework remaining. Applicant must be enrolled or intend to enroll in either an ABET or an ACCE accredited program.

George Montgomery/NRA Youth Wildlife Art Contest
Sponsor: National Rifle Association of America (NRA)
Award: Up to $1,000
Deadline: Nov. 3, 2014
Description: Contest is open to students in grades 1 through 12 (including home-school students). Contestant must submit original artwork that portrays any North American gam bird or animal that may be legally hunted or trapped.

Insureon Scholarship

Award: $2,500
Deadline: Nov. 3, 2014
Description: Applicant must be current undergraduate student at an accredited institution in the United States. Applicant must submit an essay between 500-1,000 words about how a small business has changed their life.

Oklahoma City National Memorial & Museum Student Essay Contest
Sponsor: Oklahoma City National Memorial & Museum
Award: Varies
Deadline: Nov. 3, 2014
Description: Contest is open to all public, private, parochial or homeschool students in grades 5-12. Student must submit essay on given topic.
