There are thousands of scholarships out there. Some are large scholarships that are well publicized, while others are lesser known. My goal is to share some lesser-known scholarships with my readers every Saturday.

New School Year’s Resolution Scholarship 2014

Deadline: September 30, 2014
Eligibility: Applicant must be a current high school student who is a legal resident of the 50 United States or the District of Columbia.
Requirements: Applicant must have a Zinch.com account or create an account at the time of entry. Applicant must fill out short form and share what their New School Year’s Resolution is in 280 characters or less.

Aylesworth Scholarship
Sponsor: Florida Sea Grant
Amount: Varies
Deadline: October 10, 2014
Eligibility: Applicant must be current undergraduate (junior or senior) or graduate full-time student at a university or college in Florida. Applicant may be interested in any academic discipline having direct application in marine science, ranging from biology and engineering to economics and food science.
Requirements: Applicant must submit completed application, career goals and financial need statement, letter of recommendation, personal vitae and official transcripts.

Create Real Impact Contest
Sponsor: Impact Teen Drivers
Amount: $5,000
Deadline: October 10, 2014
Eligibility: Applicant must be a legal resident of the 50 United States or the District of Columbia between the ages of 14 and 22 years. Applicant must also be enrolled full-time in an accredited educational institution (secondary (middle/high) school, trade school, college or university.
Requirements: Applicant must create an original work showcasing your idea for a solution to the very real problem of reckless and distracted driving. Applicants can submit a video, music, creative writing or artwork.

RMC Voter’s ChoiceVids 4 Kids Contest
Sponsor: Drug Facts 4 Young People
Amount: $5,000 – split between student and school
Deadline: October 10, 2014
Eligibility: Contest is open to any person or team of not more than 5 people and any registered school within Canada and the US.
Requirements: Contestant must submit a video between 15 and 30 seconds on the theme, “you’re not you when you take drugs.”

MyProjectorLamps Scholarship
Sponsor: MyProjectorLamps.com
Amount: $500
Deadline: October 13, 2014
Eligibility: Applicant must be at least 16 years old and currently attending an accredited high school, college or university. Applicant must also have a 3.0 GPA and follow or ‘like” the MyProjectorLamps Facebook page.
Requirements: Applicant must submit a one-page essay detailing your ideas about the use of multimedia and data visualization in K-12 classrooms. Applicant must also submit latest transcript.

National Rice Month Scholarship Program
Sponsor: USA Rice Federation
Amount: Up to $4,000
Deadline: October 13, 2014
Eligibility: Applicant must be a high school senior in rice-growing counties in Arkansas, California, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri, and Texas.
Requirements: Applicant must conduct a promotion activity for U.S.-grown rice in September. After promotion, applicant must submit entry form giving summary of promotion.

Broadcast Education Association (BEA) Scholarship Programs
Sponsor: Broadcast Education Association (BEA)
Amount: Varies
Deadline: October 14, 2014
Eligibility: Applicant must be attending a member school.
Requirements: Applicant must submit completed application, transcript, broadcast and other experience, a written statement of goals, and supportive statements from two references.

Airman Scholarship and Commissioning Program (ASCP)
Sponsor: Air Force ROTC
Amount: $18,000
Deadline: October 15, 2014
Eligibility: Applicant must be a US citizen, meet the age requirements and must have at least one year time-in service.
Requirements: Applicant must submit completed application, official transcripts, SAT or ACT scores (if applicable) and other forms explained on the website.

Amy Lowell Poetry Travelling Scholarship
Sponsor: Amy Lowell Trust
Amount: Varies
Deadline: October 15, 2014
Eligibility: Any poet of American birth who is able to spend one year outside the continent of North America. There is no age requirement, and there is no requirement that applicants be enrolled in a university or other education program.
Requirements: Applicant must submit two copies of the following: completed application, curriculum vitae, and a sample of your poetry.

CIA Undergraduate Scholarship Program
Sponsor: Central Intelligence Agency (CIA)
Amount: $18,000
Deadline: October 15, 2014
Eligibility: Applicant must be a US citizen who is 18 years of age or older by April 1 of senior year. Applicant must also have 1500 SAT (1000 Math and Critical Reading, 500 Writing) or 21 ACT scores and a 3.0 GPA. Lastly, applicant must be available to work in the Washington, DC area during your periods of employment.
Requirements: Applicant must submit online application forms, SAT or ACT scores, family information, copy of most recent FAFSA or SAR, school transcript, and two recommendations.

CJ Pony Parts Scholarship Video Contest
Sponsor: Pony Parts
Amount: $500
Deadline: October 15, 2014
Eligibility: Applicant must be a US resident and will be enrolling in post-secondary education in their next semester. Scholarship is open to all fields of study and is not exclusive to automotive or related degrees.
Requirements: Applicant must create a short video (under three minutes).

Future Engineers Scholarship Program
Sponsor: Kelly Services
Amount: $5,000
Deadline: October 15, 2014
Eligibility: Applicant must be full-time students at the time of application, pursuing a degree at an accredited institution of higher education in the US or Canada. Applicant must have 3.0 GPA and be studying Engineering.
Requirements: Applicant must submit completed application, essay, two letters of recommendation and official college transcript.

General Scholarship for Higher Learning

Amount: $1,500
Deadline: October 15, 2014
Eligibility: Scholarship is open to students of all majors in all countries who are 16 years of age or older.
Requirements: Applicant must submit short online application and answer four questions.

HotelCheap Scholarship Program

Deadline: October 15, 2014
Eligibility: Applicant must be 16 years of age or older with financial need. High school students, undergraduate students, master degree students, and adult learners are all encouraged to apply.
Requirements: Applicant must submit short online application and answer four questions.

JEN Scholarships
Sponsor: Jazz Education Network (JEN)
Amount: Varies
Deadline: October 15, 2014
Eligibility: Applicant must be an outstanding high school or university student, aged 14 and up, who in the opinion of his/her peers and instructors displays an exceptional talent and potential in jazz performance and/or education or industry.
Requirements: Applicant must submit application, self-nomination and/or recommendation by a current JEN member, up to five letters of support and a short biography.

La Unidad Latina Foundation Scholarship
Sponsor: La Unidad Latina Foundation
Amount: Up to $1,000
Deadline: October 15, 2014
Eligibility: Applicant must have completed at least one full-time year of study with a GPA of 2.80 or higher. Applicant must be currently enrolled in an eligible bachelor’s or master’s degree program at an accredited four-year college or university and reside in the United States.
Requirements: Applicant must submit completed application, official transcript and letter of recommendation.

National Collegiate Cancer Foundation (NCCF) Legacy Scholarship
Sponsor: National Collegiate Cancer Foundation
Amount: $1,000
Deadline: October 15, 2014
Eligibility: Applicant must have lost a parent or guardian to cancer. Applicant must also be between the ages of 18-35, a US citizen or permanent resident and attending or planning to attend an accredited college, university or vocational institution in pursuit of an associate, bachelor, master’s doctorate or certificate.
Requirements: Applicant must submit application, transcript, resume, three essays, two letters of recommendation and copy of parent’s or guardian’s death certificate.

Pelican Water Systems Scholarship

Amount: Up to $3,000
Deadline: October 15, 2014
Eligibility: Applicant must be a legal US resident and currently enrolled full-time at an accredited university in the US. Applicant must also have a cumulative GPA of 3.5.
Requirements: Applicant must submit a 500-700 word essay, transcript, and one letter of recommendation.

Quick Money #Selfie Scholarship Contest
Sponsor: NYC Collegeline.org
Amount: $500 or Kindle Fire HDX
Deadline: October 15, 2014
Eligibility: Contest is only open to residents of New York and New Jersey who are between the ages of 14 and 25 and are attending, or have attended, a high school or college in New York City, and are US citizens or have lawful immigration status.
Requirements: Applicant must submit an original Instagram-sized selfie responding to, “What about your borough best represents you?”

SAFE Scholarship
Sponsor: Sports Turf Managers Association
Amount: $1,000
Deadline: October 15, 2014
Eligibility: Applicant must be enrolled in at least six credit hours in a two-year, four-year, or graduate program in a major/field related to sports turf management. Applicant must also be planning a career in the sports turf management industry, either in the field or in research, and bean STMA member.
Requirements: Applicant must submit completed application, resume, essay, and transcript.

SoftwareProviders Scholarship

Amount: $1,000
Deadline: October 15, 2014
Eligibility: Applicant must be a US citizen or permanent legal resident of the United States. Applicant must also be a high school or home school student who graduated or earned a GED between August 1, 2013, and June 1, 2014, who will enroll as a freshman at a two-year or four-year college or university in fall 2014, or a student enrolled during the 2013-14 academic year on a full-time basis and in good academic standing at an accredited two-year or four-year college or university and who will continue such full-time enrollment through the 2014-2015 academic year.
Requirements: Applicant must submit short online form and a 600-800 word essay.
