First Responder Scholarships

First responders are designated and trained to respond to emergency situations. They do their best to keep the public safe. Public responders include police officers, sheriff deputies, firefighters, and EMS personnel. If you are a first responder or a child of a first responder, there are scholarships for you.

IAFC Foundation Scholarships
Sponsor: International Association of Fire Chiefs (IAFC) Foundation

Description: Scholarship is open to current members of the American and Canadian Fire Service. Applicants must currently be active members of a state, county, providential, municipal, community, industrial, or federal fire department.

Warrior’s Legacy Scholarship

Amount: $5,000
Closing Date: May 1, 2019
Description: Scholarship is open to graduating high school seniors and current college students who have a parent/guardian with proper service certification (police, EMT, paramedic, fire fighter, military).

Families of Freedom Scholarship
Sponsor: Families of Freedom Scholarship Fund
Amount: Varies
Closing Date: May 15, 2019
Description: Scholarship is open to dependent children, spouses or domestic partners of 9/11 victims, including airplane crew and passengers; World Trade Center and Pentagon workers and visitors; and relief workers and visitors; and relief workers, including firefighters, emergency medical personnel, and law enforcement personnel, that were involved in the rescue efforts. Applicant must be an incoming or current college student.

Alphonso Deal Scholarship Award

Description: Scholarship is open to high school seniors who are U.S. citizens and of good character. Applicant must have been accepted by a college or university with the intent to obtain higher education training in the academics of law enforcement, or other related areas, for the betterment of the Criminal Justice system.

ISAC Grant Programs
Sponsor: Illinois Student Assistance Commission (ISAC)

Closing Date: June 15, 2019
Description: Grants are open to residents of Illinois who are enrolled at least half-time at an ISAC-approved Illinois two- or four-year college. There is a grant available to dependents of police or fire officers and dependents of correctional officers. This deadline is only for summer term consideration.

Global First Responders Scholarship
Sponsor: First Responders Children’s Foundation
Amount: $20,000 over four years
Closing Date: July 1, 2019
Description: Scholarship is open to children of law enforcement officers or firefighters who either died or became permanent disabled in the line of duty who is a graduating high school senior/incoming college freshmen. Preference for this award will be given to an eligible student who is from or resides and attends school in the New York Tri-state area (NY, NJ, CT).

Vincent Bennett, Jr. Memorial Scholarship
Sponsor: National Law Enforcement and Firefighters Children’s Foundation
Amount: $20,000 over four years
Closing Date: July 1, 2019
Description: Scholarship is open to incoming college freshmen who are children of a law enforcement officer or firefighter who was killed or permanently disabled in the line of duty.

Public Service College Book Scholarship
Sponsor: Goedeker’s Appliances
Amount: Up to $500
Closing Date: July 7, 2019
Description: Scholarship is open to incoming and current college students who work in public service. This includes federal, state, and local government employees, police officers and firefighters, active military, reserves, and veterans, public school teachers, and employees of non-profit organizations.

Mississippi Law Enforcement Officers & Firemen Scholarship
Sponsor: Mississippi State Office of Financial Aid

Closing Date: September 15, 2019
Description: Scholarship is open to students enrolled full-time at the undergraduate level at any state-supported (public) college or university in Mississippi. Applicant must be a certified dependent child (under the age of 23) or spouse of any Mississippi law enforcement officer, full-time firefighter or volunteer firefighter who suffered fatal injuries or wounds or became permanently and totally disabled which occurred in the performance of the official and appointed duties of his or her office.

Death/Disability Scholarships
Sponsor: Camden County Hero Scholarship Fund

Closing Date: Ongoing
Description: Scholarships are awarded children of members of Camden County’s public safety personnel who were killed or permanently disabled in the line of duty. The amount of this scholarship shall include books, required scholastic fees and a sum for tuition equal to the highest tuition charged by New Jersey State Colleges to be determined annually.
