Attending college can be quite expensive for students and their families. Luckily, there are many college scholarships and contests available to help pay for a college education. Students should seek out and apply for scholarships in which they meet the eligibility requirements. Below are a handful of scholarships with October 2018 due dates. Create Real Impact Contest
Sponsor: Impact Teen Drivers
Amount: Up to $1,500
Closing Date: October 1, 2018
Description: Contest is open to legal residents of the 50 United States and the District of Columbia between the ages of 14 and 22 years. Applicant must create an original work showcasing their idea for a solution or strategy to fix the very real problem of reckless and distracted driving.
Jack Kent Cooke Young Artist Award
Sponsor: From the Top
Amount: Up to $10,000
Closing Date: October 1, 2018
Description: Award is open to classical instrumentalists, vocalists, and composers between the ages of 8 and 18 who have not yet entered college during the 2018-2019 academic year. This is the first deadline. Deadline II is January 7, 2019, and Deadline III is March 4, 2019.
Wendy’s High School Heisman Award
Sponsor: Wendy’s Restaurants
Amount: Up to $10,000
Closing Date: October 17, 2018
Description: Scholarship is open to graduating high school seniors who have participated in one of the 43 sports recognized by the International Olympic Committee in the Summer and Winter Olympic Games or the National Federation of State High School Associations and sponsored by their school. Applicant must have a GPA of at least 3.0.
Lendedu Scholarship

Amount: $1,000
Closing Date: October 19, 2018
Description: Scholarship is open to high school seniors and full-time college students who are U.S. citizens with at least a 2.5 GPA. Applicant must submit an essay on a given topic related to financial literacy.

Closing Date: October 20, 2018
Description: Scholarship is open to all high school, college, and graduate students and those planning to enroll within 12 months. Applicant must be a legal residents of the United States and international students with valid visas. Applicant must login or create an account with Niche.
O Captain, My Captain Scholarship Slam

Description: Scholarship is open to current and former high school students who are under the age of 25. and will be attending a college in the U.S. Applicant must submit a poem on, “Who or what has had the greatest influence/impact on your life.”
U.S. Bank Scholarship Program

Amount: Up to $20,000
Closing Date: October 26, 2018
Description: Scholarship is open to students who will be enrolled in college by Sept. 1, 2018. Applicant must complete a scholarship application and all eight Financial Genius for Life education modules available at the scholarship website.
National Rice Month Scholarship
Sponsor: USA Rice
Amount: Up to $4,000
Closing Date: October 31, 2018
Description: Scholarship is open to graduating high school seniors in rice-growing states (Arkansas, California, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri, and Texas). Applicant must create a video about U.S. rice, National Rice Month, and the importance of rice to their state.
Patriot’s Pen Competition
Sponsor: Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States
Amount: Up to $5,000
Closing Date: October 31, 2018
Description: Competition is open to students in grades 6-8 in the United States, its territories and its possessions. Applicant must submit an essay on the following theme: Why I Honor the American Flag.”
Voice of Democracy Scholarship Competition
Sponsor: Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States
Amount: Up to $30,000
Closing Date: October 31, 2018
Description: Program is open to students in grades 9-12 who are enrolled in a public, private or parochial high school or home study program in the United States, its territories and possessions. Applicant must submit a 3-5 minute essay on this year’s theme; “Why My Vote Matters”
Zombie Apocalypse Scholarship
Sponsor: Unigo
Amount: $2,000
Closing Date: October 31, 2018
Description: Scholarship is open to students 13 years of age or older who are legal residents of the 50 United States or the District of Columbia who are currently enrolled (or will enroll no later than the fall of 2024) in an accredited post-secondary institution of higher education. Applicant will need to submit a short response to a given prompt.
