There are thousands of scholarships out there. Below you will find many scholarships, most with general eligibility requirements. My goal is to share some lesser-known scholarships with my readers every Saturday.

Description: Sweepstakes is open to high school seniors and college undergraduates with permanent residence in Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Maryland, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia, West Virginia, or the District of Columbia. Students can enter online or by mail once during each two-week drawing period.

TMCF Access Scholarship Program
Sponsor: Thurgood Marshall College Fund

Description: Scholarship is open to students who plan to enroll or are enrolled as a full-time student at one of TMCF’s 47 member schools for the 2018-2019 academic school year. Applicant must have at least a 3.0 GPA and have demonstrated leadership qualities and community service experience.

Arizona Don’t Text and Drive Scholarship

Description: Scholarship is open to high school seniors and current college students in Arizona. Applicant must fill out a form pledging they will not text and drive.

Celebrate the West High School Art Competition
Sponsor: Western Governors’ Association
Amount: Up to $1,000
Closing Date: April 30, 2018
Description: Competition is open to high school students (grades 912) in public, private, charter, and alternative schools. Home-schooled students in that age group also may enter. Student must be in a school in a WGA member state: Alaska, American Samoa, Arizona, California, Colorado, Guam, Hawaii, Idaho, Kansas, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, New Mexico, North Dakota, Northern Mariana Islands, Oklahoma, Oregon, South Dakota, Texas, Utah, Washington, and Wyoming. Applicant must submit a two-dimensional art piece on what their state means to them.

Dunkin’ Donuts Scholarship Program

Description: Scholarship is open to high school seniors, high school graduates and current undergraduate students who are residents in of the designated Providence television market area of Kent, Bristol, Newport, Providence or Washington Counties in Rhode Island or Bristol County in Massachusetts.

Lanzate/Take Off! Higher Education Travel Award program
Sponsor: Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities (HACU) and Southwest Airlines

Description: Scholarship is open to Hispanic students who are current undergraduate or graduate students at a college/university at least 200 miles from their permanent address. Applicant must have at least a 2.5 GPA.

PLBC Scholarship
Sponsor: Pennsylvania Legislative Black Caucus

Description: Scholarship is open to residents of Pennsylvania who are graduating high school seniors or current undergraduate students. Applicant must be a person of color and have at least a 2.5 GPA.

Description: Scholarship is open to graduating high school seniors and current college students. Applicant must submit a “visual poem,” in a style of their choosing, on the theme of overcoming a personal challenge.

ACT Cares Community Scholarship

Description: Scholarship is open to seniors at high schools in an eligible counties in the states of Alabama, Arizona, California, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, New York, Ohio, Texas, Virginia or Washington – see website for details).

Description: Scholarships are open to incoming and current college students who are Affinity Federal Credit Union (New Jersey) student members.

Alice S. Marriott Scholarship

Description: Scholarship is open to undergraduate students from traditionally underrepresented groups who are interested in careers in hospitality. Applicant must have a minimum GPA of 3.0.

All Native American High School Academic Team
Sponsor: American Indian Graduate Center
Amount: $250
Closing Date: May 1, 2018
Description: Program is open to graduating high school seniors who are an enrolled member of a federally recognized American Indian tribe or Alaska Native group OR provide documentation of ancestry to possess of one-fourth degree Indian blood of a federally recognized trade.

Almo Scholarship
Sponsor: The American Legion – Department of Pennsylvania
Amount: $500
Closing Date: May 1, 2018
Description: Scholarship is open to graduating high school seniors residing in Pennsylvania who are a child or grandchild of a Pennsylvania legionnaire in good standing or a child or grandchild of a deceased Pennsylvania legionnaire. Applicant must be a member of a high school band who is going on to higher education in Pennsylvania and planning to major in music.

American Floral Endowment Scholarship Programs

Description: Scholarships are open to students who will be pursuing a career that is in a field related to floriculture or horticulture. Applicant must also be a citizen or resident of the United States or Canada, or be enrolled in an accredited educational institution in the United States or Canada.

American Indian Services Scholarship
Sponsor: American Indian Services (AIS)

Closing Date: May 1, 2018
Description: Applicant must be one-quarter (1/4) Northern-Native American Indian and enrolled in undergraduate studies at a university, junior college, or technical school. Applicant must have at least a 2.25 GPA.
