Attending college can be quite expensive for students and their families. Luckily, there are many college scholarships and contests available to help pay for a college education. Students should seek out and apply for scholarships in which they meet the eligibility requirements. Below are a handful of scholarships with October 2017 due dates. College Women of the Year Award

Amount: Up to $10,000
Closing Date: October 1, 2017
Description: Promotion is open to women who are legal residents of the 50 United States, the District of Columbia, or Canada (except Quebec) who are full-time college students attending a four-year college or university in the United States or Canada for the 2017-2018 academic year. Applicant can also enter if she previously attended a college or forewent college to pursue an idea, company or project she is dedicated to. Applicant must submit a complete application, list of awards and activities, a short essay describing the most meaningful achievement, a photo, and two recommendations.
Wendy’s High School Heisman Award
Sponsor: Wendy’s Restaurants

Description: Scholarship is open to graduating high school seniors who have participated in one of the 43 sports recognized by the International Olympic Committee in the Summer and Winter Olympic Games or the National Federation of State High School Associations and sponsored by their school. Applicant must have a GPA of at least 3.0.

Description: Scholarship is open to high school students and international equivalents. Applicant must submit an essay on a given topic related to science and math.
Create Real Impact Contest
Sponsor: Impact Teen Drivers
Amount: Up to $1,500
Closing Date: October 6, 2017
Description: Contest is open to legal residents of the 50 United States and the District of Columbia between the ages of 14 and 22 years. Applicant must create an original work showcasing their idea for a solution or strategy to fix the very real problem of reckless and distracted driving.
Closing Date: October 13, 2017
Description: Scholarship is open to graduating high school seniors and college freshmen, sophomores, and juniors who are between the ages of 16 and 22 years of age. Applicant must share a photo that shows how they’ve made (or plan to make) their college experience feel like a home away from home.
Branson Shows Inspired Scholarship
Sponsor: Branson Show Tickets
Closing Date: October 15, 2017
Description: Scholarship is open to legal residents of the United States between the ages of 16 and 19, who are current students at any accredited educational institution or program of higher learning. High school students and homeschooled students who plan to enroll in college upon graduation are also encouraged to apply. Applicant must submit an essay on how a show inspired their dreams.
Golden Door Scholars Program
Sponsor: Golden Door Scholars
Amount: Full tuition, room and board for a year-year degree at a Golden Door partner school. Students at other schools will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
Closing Date: October 25, 2017
Description: Scholarship is open to graduating high school seniors and recent high school graduates who are eligible for DACA (Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals) or TPS (Temporary Protected Status). Applicants from states where DACA students must pay out-of-state tuition at public universities and community colleges will be given strong preference.
Voice of Democracy Scholarship Competition
Sponsor: Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States
Amount: Up to $30,000
Closing Date: October 31, 2017
Description: Program is open to students in grades 9-12 who are enrolled in a public, private or parochial high school or home study program in the United States, its territories and possessions. Applicant must submit a 3-5 minute essay on this year’s theme; “American History: Our Hope for the Future.”
Zombie Apocalypse Scholarship
Closing Date: October 31, 2017
Description: Scholarship is open to students 13 years of age or older who are legal residents of the 50 United States or the District of Columbia who are currently enrolled (or will enroll no later than the fall of 2023) in an accredited post-secondary institution of higher education. Applicant will need to submit a short response to a given prompt.
