There are thousands of scholarships out there. Some are large scholarships that are well publicized, while others are lesser known. My goal is to share some lesser-known scholarships with my readers every Saturday.

Description: Scholarship is open to students who self-identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender (LGBT) or as an Ally who demonstrates outstanding support directly to LGBT society and supports equality for all. Applicant must either be a resident of the State of a Maryland or an incoming or current college student at a Maryland institution of higher learning.

Robert A. Shuker Scholarship

Description: Scholarship is open to students attending a law school who are legal residents of the Greater Metropolitan Area of Washington D.C., which is defined as including the Maryland counties of Montgomery, Prince Georges, Anne Arundel, and Howard, and the Virginia counties of Arlington, Fairfax, Loudon, Prince William, and the City of Alexandria.

SunTrust Scholarship Sweepstakes

Description: Sweepstakes is open to high school seniors and college undergraduates with permanent residence in Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Maryland, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia, West Virginia, or the District of Columbia. Students can enter online or by mail once during each two-week drawing period.

Ava’s Grace Scholarship

Description: Scholarship is open to incoming and current college students who are children of an incarcerated parent and who reside in Missouri, Kansas, or Illinois.

Noble National Scholarships

Description: Scholarships are open to African-American students who are incoming or current college students and who are/will be pursuing a degree in any of the social sciences, including technology, forensic investigations, and other criminal investigative studies, to further a career in law enforcement or criminal justice.

Tactical Tutor Marketing Scholarship

Description: Scholarship is open to undergraduate and graduate students with a passion for marketing and the great outdoors. Students studying or interested in Communications, Marketing, IT Field, and Business are recommended to apply. Applicant must submit an essay on a given topic related to the outdoors.

V&E Diversity Scholarships

Description: Scholarship is open to high school seniors who are members of a racial/ethnic group which has been historically underrepresented in the legal profession (Asian, American Indian/Alaska Native, Black/African-American, Hispanic/Latino, Native Hawaiian or other Pacific Islander, or Multiracial/two or more races). Applicant must have U.S. citizenship, residency in Houston, Dallas, Austin or surrounding areas for continuous seven years, have an interest in the legal profession, and be in the top 20% of their class.

Constitution Connection Contest
Sponsor: Bill of Rights Institute
Amount: $1,000
Closing Date: April 16, 2017
Description: Contest is open to legal residents of the 50 United States and the District of Columbia who are in school and are 18 years of age or older OR are 13 years or older and have received permission in writing from their parents or legal guardians. Unfortunately the contest is unavailable to students in Maryland, Nebraska, and Arizona. Every two weeks, vote yes or no to a prompt given on the Bill of Rights Institute Constitutional Connection webpage and provide a supporting constitutional argument for the position. A winner will be selected every two weeks and will receive a $25 Amazon gift card. Each bi-weekly winner will have a chance to win the $1,000 cash scholarship. The contest ends on May 26, 2017.
