Attending college can be quite expensive for students and their families. Luckily, there are many college scholarships and contests available to help pay for a college education. Students should seek out and apply for scholarships in which they meet the eligibility requirements. Below are a handful of scholarships with April 2017 due dates. College Success Scholarship

Description: Scholarship is open to U.S. citizens and permanent residents who are enrolled (or accepted) in an accredited college or university and planning on continuing the next year. Applicant must submit a short online application.
Project Yellow Light Scholarship Competition – Radio

Description: Competition is open to high school juniors and seniors and college students. Applicant must create a radio recording of 20 second that discourages distracted driving.
Project Yellow Light Scholarship Competition – Video

Description: Competition is open to high school juniors and seniors and college students. Applicant must submit a video that encourages friends to avoid distracted driving.
A Voice for Animals Contest
Sponsor: Humane Education Network
Amount: Up to $650
Closing Date: April 10, 2017
Description: Contest is open to students between the ages of 14 and 18 years of age. Depending on the contestant’s age, student must either submit an essay or be involved in a project related to the mistreatment of animals.
Denny’s Hungry for Education Scholarship
Sponsor: Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities | Denny’s
Amount: $1,000
Closing Date: April 14, 2017
Description: Scholarship is open to high school and undergraduate and graduate students who are attending a two-year or four-year HACU-member institution within the United States or Puerto Rico. Applicant must be a U.S. Citizen or Permanent Legal Resident and have at least a 2.5 GPA. Student must submit an essay on how Denny’s can impact childhood hunger.
Signet Essay Contest

Closing Date: April 14, 2017
Description: Contest is open to 11th and 12th grade, full-time matriculated students who are attending high schools located in the 50 United States and the District of Columbia, or homeschooled students between the ages of 16-18. Applicant must submit an essay on one of five given topics related to the book, “The Tempest.”
Gloria Barron Prize for Young Heroes

Description: Prize is open to students between the ages of 8 and 18 years of age who are permanent residents of the United States or Canada. Applicant must be nominated for an extraordinary service activity which has clearly benefited other people or the planet we share.
Picture Keeper Scholarship

Description: Scholarship is open to graduating high school seniors and current undergraduate and graduate students who are legal U.S. residents. Applicant must submit a short essay and a photo that shares what the applicant is doing to follow their dreams.
All About Education Scholarship

Amount: $3,000
Closing Date: April 30, 2017
Description: Scholarship is open to students 13 years of age or older who are legal residents of the 50 United States or the District of Columbia and are currently enrolled (or will enroll no later than the fall of 2023) in an accredited post-secondary institution of higher education. Applicant will need to submit a short response to a given prompt.
MoolahSPOT $1,000 Scholarship

Description: Scholarship is open to students at least 16 years or older who plan to attend, or is currently attending, college or graduate school. Students may be of any nationality and reside in any country. Applicant must submit a short form and a short essay.
