December 2016 Scholarships | JLV College Counseling Blog

Attending college can be quite expensive for students and their families. Luckily, there are many college scholarships and contests available to help pay for a college education. Students should seek out and apply for scholarships in which they meet the eligibility requirements. Below are a handful of scholarships with December 2016 due dates. Bookoo Scholarship
Sponsor: Bookoo, Inc.
Amount: $1,000
Closing Date: December 1, 2016
Description: Scholarship is open to current college students attending an accredited college or university. Applicant must submit an application and answer questions related to the applicant’s educational plans.

Doodle 4 Google
Sponsor: Google Inc.
Amount: $30,000
Closing Date: December 2, 2016
Description: Program is open to students in grades kindergarten through twelfth grades. Student will submit a doodle for Google.

Letters About Literature Competition
Sponsor: Center for the Book in the Library of Congress
Amount: Up to $1,000
Closing Date: December 2, 2016 for students in grades 9-12; January 9, 2017 for students in grades 4-8.
Description: Competition is open to students in grades four through 12. Applicant must select a fiction or nonfiction book, poem or play and write a personal letter to the author on how the author’s work changed the applicant or their view of the world.

National Space Club Keynote Scholarship
Sponsor: National Space Club
Amount: $10,000
Closing Date: December 2, 2016
Description: Scholarship is open to high school seniors, college undergraduate students, and graduate students with plans to pursue a career in the science, technology, engineering, or math (STEM) fields. Applicant must be a U.S. citizen.

Stephen J. Brady Stop Hunger Scholarships
Sponsor: Sodexo Stop Hunger Foundation
Amount: $5,000
Closing Date: December 5, 2016
Description: Scholarship is open to students in kindergarten through graduate school (ages 5-25) who have demonstrated ongoing commitment to their community by performing unpaid volunteer services impacting hunger in the United States within the last 12 months.

AnyIntern Scholarship
Sponsor: AnyIntern
Amount: $1,000
Closing Date: December 10, 2016
Description: Scholarship is open to students age 13 years of age or older worldwide. Applicant must submit a solution to fix unpaid internships in 60 words or less. Applicant can submit three submissions.

AdmitSee $5,000 Scholarship
Sponsor: AdmitSee
Amount: $5,000
Closing Date: December 15, 2016
Description: Scholarship is open to current high school and college students in the United States who are at least 13 years of age. Applicant must share what they feel is the most frustrating thing about applying to college.

Angela Award
Sponsor: National Science Teachers Association
Amount: $1,000
Closing Date: December 15, 2016
Description: Award is open to female students in grades 5-8 who are residents of the United States, US Territories, or Canada. Applicant must have a strong passion for STEM.

Rubincam Youth Award
Sponsor: National Genealogical Society
Amount: $500
Closing Date: December 15, 2016
Description: Award is open to students in grades 7 through 12. Applicants must submit a genealogical project.

Story of the Year Contest
Sponsor: Story Shares
Amount: Up to $3,000
Closing Date: December 31, 2016
Description: Contest is open to legal residents of the United States and its territories and possessions. Contestant must submit a story between 1,000 and 10,000 words and designate the story under one of the following categories: Diversity, Historical Fiction, Fantasy, Horror/Suspense, or Teens by Teens. The goal is to generate compelling and approachable contest for readers who are in middle school, high school, or older.

Unigo Scholarship
Sponsor: Unigo
Amount: $10,000
Closing Date: December 31, 2016
Description: Applicant must be at least 13 years of age or older, a legal resident of the 50 United States or the District of Columbia, and be currently enrolled (or enroll no later than the fall of 2022) in an accredited post-secondary institution of higher education.
