There are thousands of scholarships out there. Some are large scholarships that are well publicized, while others are lesser known. My goal is to share some lesser-known scholarships with my readers every Saturday.

Make a YouTube Video Inclusive for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing Community

Description: Most YouTube videos use auto-generated captions that contain tons of mistakes (that are kind of funny)! But’s it’s not so funny to the 360 million folks globally who relay on closed captions to understand the video. Check out some of your favorite creators and see if they have accurate closed captions. If the captions are inaccurate, leave the YouTuber a comment letting them know how important it is to make their channel accessible. For every video you find and leave a comment, you can receive an entry for the scholarship.

NASCAR Diversity Scholarship

Amount: Up to $10,000
Closing Date: October 15, 2016
Description: Scholarship is open to legal residents of the 50 United States and the District of Columbia who are between the ages of 18 and 25 and who are students in good standing currently enrolled in an undergraduate degree program at an accredited college or university within the United States. Applicant must submit a 90-second video demonstrating one technology used in NASCAR, an issue it resolved, and how STEM professionals came to its design.

Post 1-Star Reviews to Take Down Offensive Halloween Costumes

Description: Every year, we see countless headlines of Halloween costumes, sold and worn, that perpetuate racist, cultural stereotypes. Sign up for facts on cultural appropriation and tips on educating people about it. DoSomething will provide a list of costumes that perpetuate the stereotypes. Applicant is asked to leave a one-star rating online. For every review you submit, you earn another chance to win the scholarship.

Varsity Tutors College Scholarship Contest

Description: Scholarship is open to legal residents of the 50 United States and the District of Columbia who are 16 years of age or older and are enrolled in an accredited college, university, or other institution of higher learning in the United States during the 2016-2017 school year. Applicant must submit an essay on a given topic related to school.

Hispanic Heritage Youth Awards
Sponsor: Hispanic Heritage Foundation
Amount: Up to $3,000
Closing Date: October 15, 2016 – extended from October 2, 2016
Description: Scholarship is open to graduating high school seniors (2017) of Hispanic/Latino descent who have demonstrated leadership in the classroom and community and for their focus in various categories including: Business & Entrepreneurship, Community Service, Education, Engineering, Healthcare & Science, and Mathematical Science.

Save the Frogs! Art Contest

Description: Contest is open to anyone, regardless of age, with a talent for art. Applicant must submit a cool frog piece of art.

Jack Kent Cooke Young Artist Award

Description: Award is open to classical instrumentalists, vocalists, and composers between the ages of 8 and 18 who have not yet entered college during the 2016-2017 academic year.

Ludo Frevel Crystallography Scholarships

Amount: $2,500
Closing Date: October 19, 2016
Description: Scholarship is open to graduate students with a major interest in crystallography (e.g. crystal structure analysis, crystal morphology, modulated structures, correlation of atomic structure with physical properties, etc.)
