There are thousands of scholarships out there. Some are large scholarships that are well publicized, while others are lesser known. My goal is to share some lesser-known scholarships with my readers every Saturday.

Description: According to sources, “paper and plastic make up almost half the waste in landfills. Also, Americans only recycle about half the aluminum cans we use.” Applicant must “slam dunk” recyclables.

Future Post-Secondary Students Scholarship

Description: Scholarship is open to students accepted to an accredited, post-secondary college, with a major in either culinary or pastry arts, or an ACF registered apprentice.

Galvanize the Future: An Edgar K. Schutz Memorial Scholarship
Sponsor: American Galvanizers Association (AGA)
Amount: Up to $2,500
Deadline: March 31, 2016
Description: Scholarship is open to undergraduate or graduate students of any age who are enrolled at an accredited college or university in North American who are studying architecture, civil engineering, structural engineering, construction management, material science, or other related field.

Description: Scholarship is open to high school seniors and college students who have an interest in Magic.

Description: Scholarship is open to high school seniors and current college students. Applicant must fill out a form pledging they will not text and drive.

Description: Applicant must be a high school senior who is legally blind.

Hearthstone Housing Foundation Scholarship

Description: Scholarship is open to students between the ages of 16-25 years of age who reside at a Hearthstone Housing Foundation property or in a county where a Hearthstone property is located (specific location details available on website) and demonstrate financial need, or come from a low-income household.

Illustrators of the Future Contest
Sponsor: L. Ron Hubbard Library
Amount: $500
Deadline: March 31, 2016
Description: Contest is open to new and amateur artists who have not been professionally published and paid for more then three black-and-white story illustrations, or more than one process-color painting, in media distributed broadly to the general public.

James R. Hoffa Memorial Scholarship Fund

Amount: Up to $10,000
Deadline: March 31, 2016
Description: Scholarship is open to sons, daughters, and financial dependents of Teamster members who are graduating high school seniors. Applicant must be in the top 15 percent of their high school class and planning to attend an accredited four-year college or university.

Jerry Fuchs “Making a Difference” Scholarship Program
Sponsor: Minority Athletes Networking Etc., Inc.
Amount: Up to $5,000
Deadline: March 31, 2016
Description: Scholarship is open to students with a B or C grade point average or have high SAT scores but a low GPA. Applicant must be an athlete and/or student looking to go into a technical/medical area and have a single parent or come from an at risk family.

Lance Corporal Phillip E. Frank-Fifth Third Bank Memorial Scholarship
Sponsor: Heart of a Marine Foundation
Amount: $2,000
Deadline: March 31, 2016
Description: Scholarship is open to graduating high school seniors, as well as veterans who exemplify the spirit of the Heart Of A Marine Foundation: Honor, Patriotism, Loyalty, Respect, and Concern for Others.

Linda Riddle/SGMA Endowed Scholarship

Amount: $1,500
Deadline: March 31, 2016
Description: Scholarship is open to graduating high school female students who participated on an official recognized high school athletic team and maintained a minimum of a 3.5 cumulative grade point average.

MassMutual Scholars Program
Sponsor: MassMutual Financial Group
Amount: Up to $5,000
Deadline: March 31, 2016
Description: Program is open to students of all majors who will be entering their sophomore, junior, senior, or fifth-year senior year in pursuit of an undergraduate degree from an accredited college or university.

NATAS PSW Foundation Scholarship
Sponsor: NATAS Pacific Southwest Chapter
Amount: Up to $5,000
Deadline: March 31, 2016
Description: Scholarship is open to undergraduate students enrolled in nine units or more and graduate students enrolled in six units or more for the coming Fall or Spring school year. Applicant must be a resident of the Pacific Southwest Chapter Area (San Diego, Las Vegas, Bakersfield, San Luis Obispo, Santa Barbara, Santa Maria or Palm Springs) and intending to pursue a career in television and related fields.

National Federation of the Blind Scholarship
Sponsor: National Federation of the Blind (NFB)
Amount: Up to $12,000
Deadline: March 31, 2016
Description: Applicant must be legally blind in both eyes and reside in the United States, the District of Columbia or Puerto Rico.

NIADA Foundation Scholarship
Sponsor: National Independent Automobile Dealers Association (NIADA) Foundation
Amount: $3,500
Deadline: March 31, 2016
Description: Scholarship is open to high school seniors who are legally residing in one of the four NIADA Regions. Applicant must submit completed application and an essay discussing their interest in the automotive industry.

Buckley Moss Endowed Scholarship
Sponsor: P. Buckley Moss Foundation
Amount: $1,000
Deadline: March 31, 2016
Description: Scholarship is open to high school seniors with financial need, a certified language-related learning difference, and artistic talent who are planning a career in visual arts.

Pack That Ash Up Scholarship
Sponsor: Do Something
Amount: $2,000
Deadline: March 31, 2016
Description: According to sources, “40% of current smokers try to quit, but only 4-6% are successful.” Applicant will receive an entry into the scholarship by providing their phone number and the numbers of three friends to receive researched-backed anti-smoking tips.
