There are thousands of scholarships out there. Some are large scholarships that are well publicized, while others are lesser known. My goal is to share some lesser-known scholarships with my readers every Saturday.

Hawkinson Scholarship

Amount: Up to $5,000
Deadline: March 15, 2016
Description: Scholarship is open to college students who are residents of or currently attending school in Iowa, Minnesota, South Dakota, North Dakota, or Wisconsin and have demonstrated a commitment to peace and justice.

NSCA Foundation Scholarships
Sponsor: National Strength & Conditioning Association (NSCA) Foundation
Amount: $1,500
Deadline: March 15, 2016
Description: Scholarships are open to high school seniors and college students who are or will be pursuing careers in strength and conditioning. The foundation offers multiple scholarships.

Par Aide’s Joseph S. Garske Collegiate Grant Program
Sponsor: Golf Course Superintendents Association of America
Amount: $7,500
Deadline: March 15, 2016
Description: Applicant must be a graduating high school senior and accepted at an institution of higher learning for the upcoming year. One or more of the applicant’s parents or step-parents must have been a GCSAA member for five or more consecutive years and must be a current GCSAA member.

Pediatric Dentist of Tomorrow Scholarships
Sponsor: SmileReef.com
Amount: $500
Deadline: March 15, 2016
Description: Scholarship is open to legal residents of the 50 United States and the District of Columbia who are 18 years of age or older and have aspiration of entering the dental field in the future.

Sister Rita Jeanne Scholarships
Sponsor: Journalism Education Association (JEA)
Amount: Up to $3,000
Deadline: March 15, 2016
Description: Scholarship is open to graduating high school seniors who have participated in high school journalism for at least two years. Applicant must be a student of a JEA adviser and a state winner. To be considered for the scholarship, applicant must submit a portfolio of their work.

Tau Kappa Epsilon Scholarships
Sponsor: Tau Kappa Epsilon
Amount: Varies
Deadline: March 15, 2016
Description: Scholarship is open to members of Tau Kappa Epsilon Fraternity. Multiple scholarships are available with specific requirements. See website for details.

UCT Heaston Scholarship Program
Sponsor: Order of United Commercial Travelers of America (UCT)
Amount: Up to $6,000 per year for four years.
Deadline: March 15, 2016
Description: Scholarship is open to high school seniors who demonstrate evidence of hard work to overcome obstacles, academic success, extracurricular success in high school, and commitment to community service.

Unpublished Writer Award
Sponsor: Go On Girl! Book Club, Inc.
Amount: $1,000
Deadline: March 15, 2016
Description: Award is open to U.S. citizens of African descent from any area of the Diaspora who reside in the United States. Applicant must submit an original, unpublished work of fiction (short story or novel excerpt) not to exceed 2,000 type words on double-spaced pages.

Washington Wine Industry Foundation Scholarships

Description: Scholarship is open to students attending Washington colleges who are preparing for careers in grape and wine related industries.

Junior Duck Stamp Contest
Sponsor: United States Fish & Wildlife Service
Amount: Up to $1,000
Deadline: March 15, 2016 for most states (see website for details)
Description: Contest is open to students in grades K-12 who attend public, private, or home schools in the United States and the U.S. territories. Contestant must draw, paint, or sketch a picture of an eligible North American waterfowl species.

ICW Scholarships
Sponsor: Independent Colleges of Washington
Amount: Up to $2,500
Deadline: March 16, 2016
Description: Scholarships are open to students attending select private colleges and universities in Washington State. Multiple scholarships available with specific requirements. See website for details.

General Henry H. Arnold Education Grant Program
Sponsor: Air Force Aid Society (AFAS)
Amount: Varies
Deadline: March 18, 2016
Description: Applicant must be a dependent of an Air Force member, spouse of an Active Duty member, or a surviving spouse of an Air Force member who will be a high school graduate enrolled or accepted as a full-time undergraduate student during the 2016-2017 academic year.

Heroes’ Legacy Scholarships
Sponsor: Fisher House Foundation
Amount:
Deadline: March 18, 2016
Description: Scholarship is open to dependent, unmarried children under the age of 23 of active duty personnel, Reserve/Guard, and retired military members, or survivors of service members who died while on active duty.

2015 Vince Jacknewitz Scholarship
Sponsor: Anheuser-Busch Employees’ Credit Union, American Eagle Credit Union & Purina Credit Union
Amount: $1,500
Deadline: March 19, 2016
Description: Scholarship is open to members of ABECU/AECU/PCU who are graduating high school seniors and accepted as an incoming freshman at an accredited college or university.

The Get Loud Challenge
Sponsor: Alliance For Climate Education (ACE)
Amount: $5,000
Deadline: March 19, 2016
Description: Challenge is open to legal residents of the 50 United States and the District of Columbia who are between the ages of 13 and 24 years of age. Applicant must fill out a very short entry form.

The Tree Center Scholarship Program
Sponsor: The Tree Center
Amount: $500
Deadline: March 20, 2016
Description: Scholarship is open to current high school and college students in the United States with at least a 3.0 GPA. Applicant must have designed an innovative product that makes a difference in the lives of others (this could be a website, series of blogs, an app, fundraising event, etc.) and submit an essay describing the goal of the project.
