There are thousands of scholarships out there. Some are large scholarships that are well publicized, while others are lesser known. My goal is to share some lesser-known scholarships with my readers every Saturday.

Description: Award is open to high school juniors who are college bound with a strong record of community service and academic achievement. Student must have financial and/or personal need.

AABE National Scholarships
Sponsor: American Association of Blacks in Energy (AABE)

Deadline: March 4, 2016
Description: Scholarship is open to graduating high school seniors who are members of one of the underrepresented minority groups in the sciences or related areas of technology. Applicant must demonstrate financial need and plan to major in business, engineering, technology, mathematics, or physical science.

Annual Kaplun Essay Contest
Sponsor: Morris J. and Betty Kaplun Foundation
Amount: Up to $1,800
Deadline: March 4, 2016
Description: Contest is open to students in grades 7 through 12. Applicant must submit an essay related to Jewish values. Students do not have to be Jewish to enter.

Drake Davis Scholarship

Description: Scholarship is open to graduating high school seniors who exemplify outstanding qualities in leadership, character and community service.

Religious Liberty Essay Scholarship Contest

Description: Scholarship is open to high school juniors and seniors. Applicant must write an essay on a topic related to religious liberty.

Students Rising Above Scholars Program

Deadline: March 4, 2016
Description: Scholars program is open to high school juniors from low-income families and live within the nine-county California Bay Area. Student must have demonstrated strength of character in the face of challenging odds, and dream of a college education.

Dottie R. Walker LEAD Foundation Scholarship

Amount: $1,000
Deadline: March 5, 2016
Description: Scholarship is open to undergraduate students with a documented learning disability or ADHD. Applicant must also be a resident of Colorado and have a minimum GPA of 2.8 or higher.

ACEC Scholarships
Sponsor: American Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC)

Description: Scholarship is open to students seeking degrees in engineering who will be entering their junior, senior, fifth, or master’s degree year in the fall of 2015 at an ABET-accredited engineering program or in an accredited land-surveying program.

Toyota TeenDrive365 Video Challenge
Sponsor: Toyota TeenDrive365 and Discovery Education
Amount: Up to $15,000
Deadline: March 7, 2016
Description: Challenge is open to legal U.S. residents who are at least 13 years of age and are enrolled in grades 9-12 at a public, private or parochial school in the United States. Student must create a 60-90 second video that demonstrates the importance of safe teen driving.

Women in Technology Scholarship (WIT)

Deadline: March 7, 2016
Description: Scholarship is open to students enrolled at, or accepted into, either a two or four-year college or university within the United States for the 2016 school year. Applicant must be planning a career in computer science, information technology, management information systems, computer engineering, or related field.

“Frame My Future” Scholarship Contest
Sponsor: Church Hill Classics
Amount: $1,000
Deadline: March 8, 2016
Description: Applicant must be a legal resident of the 50 United States and the District of Columbia and intend to enroll as a full-time student at a U.S. college or university in the 2016-2017 academic year. Applicant must submit an original, creative image that shows “how you want to Frame Your Future!”

Michael Yasick ADHD Scholarship
Sponsor: Shire US Inc.

Deadline: March 9, 2016
Description: Scholarship is open to students who have been diagnosed with ADHD and is under the care of a licensed health care professional for ADHD. Applicant must be accepted to or will be enrolled in a 2- or 4-year undergraduate program at an accredited college, university, trade school, technical school, or vocational school located in the United States.

DNA Day Essay Contest

Description: Contest is open to high school students in grades 9-12. Applicant must submit an essay on a topic related to genetics.

Hays C. Kirby Essay Scholarship Contest

Description: Scholarship is open to senior high school (11th-12th) students who attend a public, private, alternative, parochial school, or a home study program. Applicant must submit an essay on the topic, “If not for them… where would we be?”

Ray Greenly Scholarship

Description: Scholarship is open to sophomore, junior, and senior undergraduate and graduate students enrolled full-time at an accredited U.S. college or university. Applicant must be ambitious, curious, adaptable, and have the potential to impact the future of digital retail.

American Foreign Service Association National High School Essay Contest

Description: Contest is open to high school students in grades 9-12 who are U.S. citizens. Students must submit an essay on a given topic related to the Foreign Service.

APWU Vocational Scholarship

Description: Applicant must be 1/4 or more degree American Indian and be an enrolled member of a U.S. tribe. Applicant must be attending or planning on attending a college or university within the U.S. on a full-time basis that is fully accredited.

Curwen-Guidry-Blackburn Scholarship Fund

Description: Scholarship is open to graduating high school seniors who are residents of Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, Tennessee, or Texas. Applicant must currently be bowling in a USBC-sanctioned league and have bowled for three out of four years in high school.

Dolman Law Group Video Essay Contest

Description: Contest is open to middle school and high school students in the United States, U.S. territories, and military basis. Contestant must submit an essay on a topic related to World War II.
