There are thousands of scholarships out there. Some are large scholarships that are well publicized, while others are lesser known. My goal is to share some lesser-known scholarships with my readers every Saturday.

Description: Scholarship is open to any current, full-time student of an accredited U.S. university or college with a cumulative GPA of at least 2.5. Applicant must submit an essay on a topic related to credit scores.

2016 ASMF “Sleep Story” High School Video Contest
Sponsor: American Sleep Medicine Foundation
Amount: $500
Deadline: Feb. 29, 2016
Description: Contest is open to any individual who is enrolled in high school in the United States at the time of entry. Applicant must create a video between 30 seconds and two minutes showing the effects of sleep illness.

2016 College Hopes and Worries Survey
Sponsor: The Princeton Review
Amount: $2,000
Deadline: Feb. 29, 2016
Description: Applicant must be a resident of the United States or District of Columbia and 13 years of age or older. Student (or parent) must fill out a survey about their thoughts on the college search and college admissions process.

Better Together Scholarships
Sponsor: Pacific Gas and Electric Company
Amount: Up to $20,000
Deadline: Feb. 29, 2016
Description: Scholarship is open to students 16 years of age or older who are high school seniors or graduates, have received their GED certification or are current undergraduate students. Applicant must also be a current PG&E customer and planning to pursue a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Math (STEM).

Buick Achievers Scholarship Program
Sponsor: Buick Achievers Scholarship Program
Amount: Up to $25,000 per year, renewable for up to four years.
Deadline: Feb. 29, 2016
Description: Applicant must be a high school senior, high school graduate, or a current postsecondary undergraduate student enrolled full-time in undergraduate study at an accredited four-year college or university. Applicant must be majoring in (or planning to major in) a course of study that focuses on Engineering, Technology, or select Design or Business related programs of study.

Chen Foundation Scholarship

Amount: $2,000
Deadline: Feb. 29, 2016
Description: Scholarship is open to California high school seniors who plan to attend a California State University or California Community College in the Fall of 2016.

Discover Student Loans Scholarship
Sponsor: Discover Financial Services
Amount: $2,500
Deadline: Feb. 29, 2016
Description: Scholarship is open to high school seniors 16 years of age or older and undergraduate students 16 years of age or older. Applicant must be planning to attend or continuing to attend an eligible college or university. Applicant must sign up to receive helpful tips on planning and paying for college from Discover Student Loans.

Don’t Booze and Cruise Scholarship

Amount: $2,000
Deadline: Feb. 29, 2016
Description: According to sources, “In 2012, 32% of alcohol-impaired drivers were between 21 and 24. That’s the highest percentage of any age group.” Applicant must provide their cell phone number, as well as the number of three friends to receive tips on how to stop a friend from boozing and cruising to receive an entry for the scholarship.

Earth Day Awards

Description: Award is open to high school students worldwide who can demonstrate environmental stewardship, leadership, and volunteerism as expressed through an Earth Day project.

Description: Scholarships are open to high school seniors who are United States citizens seeking higher education at an accredited four-year college or university in the United States. Applicant must have financial need.

Description: Scholarship is open to minority undergraduate students who are studying advertising, marketing or public relations.

Lexington Law Scholarship Award

Description: Applicant must be a current, full-time student at an accredited U.S. university or college with a cumulative grade point average of at least 2.5. Applicant must submit an essay related to credit scores.

Description: Scholarship is open to women studying (or planning to study) science, technology, engineering, or math at an accredited college or university.

Description: Applicant must be 13 years of age or older, a resident of the 50 United States or the District of Columbia, and be currently enrolled (or enroll no later than the fall of 2022) in an accredited post-secondary institution of higher education. Teens for Jeans Scholarship

Description: Scholarship is open to students 26 years or younger. For every 2 pairs of jeans a student collects and donates, they will receive an entry for the scholarship.

2016 Annual Student Essay Contest

Description: Contest is open to United States high school seniors and undergraduate students. Applicant must submit an essay on a topic related to separation of church and state.

2016 Pride in Your Heritage GRHS Youth Essay Contest
Sponsor: Germans from Russia heritage Society (GRHS)
Amount: Up to $1,000
Deadline: March 1, 2016
Description: Contest is open to students attending public, private, parochial, or home schools, and to students attending accredited universities. Student must submit an essay on a topic related to German Russian history, heritage or culture. Student does not need to be ethnic German-Russian to enter contest.

AACL Scholarship
Sponsor: Armenian-American Citizens League Educational Fund
Amount: Up to $2,000
Deadline: March 1, 2016
Description: Scholarship is open to permanent residents of the United States who have been living in California for at least two years and are of Armenian descent. Applicant must be enrolled full-time at an accredited college in the United States and maintain at least a 3.0 GPA.

ABFSE Undergraduate Scholarship
Sponsor: American Board of Funeral Service Education
Amount: Up to $2,500
Deadline: March 1, 2016
Description: Scholarship is open to students who have completed at least one semester (or quarter) of study in a program in funeral service or mortuary science education accredited by the American Board of Funeral Service Education.
