There are thousands of scholarships out there. Some are large scholarships that are well publicized, while others are lesser known. My goal is to share some lesser-known scholarships with my readers every Saturday.

Gordon A. Rich Memorial Scholarship

Description: Applicant must be a dependent child of a full-time employee in the financial services industry. Employee must be presently employed with five years of experience OR no longer employed in the field but had ten years of experience which ended no longer than five years prior to scholarship. Scholarship is open to high school seniors who are enrolling as a full-time first-year student in pursuit of a four-year bachelor’s degree at an accredited college or university in the United States.

The Christophers’ Poster Contest for High School Students

Description: Contest is open to students in grades nine through twelve. Contestant must create an original poster based on the theme, “One Person Can Make a Difference.”

Hawai’I Community Foundation Scholarships

Description: Scholarship is open to students who are residents of the state of Hawaii and can demonstrate financial need. Applicant must be attending an accredited two or four year college or university within the United States as either an undergraduate or graduate student. Asian Pacific Fun Scholarships

Description: Scholarships are open to students in California who are of Asian descent. Multiple scholarships available with specific requirements. See website for details.

Beinecke Scholarship Program
Sponsor: Beinecke Scholarship Program
Amount: $34,000
Deadline: Feb. 19, 2016
Description: Scholarship program is open to juniors who are currently majoring in the arts, humanities or social sciences and plan to attend graduate school. Applicant must demonstrate superior standards of intellectual ability, scholastic achievement, and personal promise.

CISCO Scholarship Award Program for High School Seniors
Sponsor: Construction Industry Service Corporation (CISCO)
Amount: $2,000
Deadline: Feb. 19, 2016
Description: Scholarship is open to children of building trade union members and employees of union contractors. Applicant must be a high school senior who is a U.S. citizen and has been provisionally accepted as a full-time student into an undergraduate degree program at a four-year accredited college or university.

DCHA Higher Education Scholarship
Sponsor: Dairy Calf and Heifer Association
Amount: $1,000
Deadline: Feb. 19, 2016
Description: Applicant must be a member of DCHA, or the son, daughter or legal dependent of a DCHA member. Applicant must be currently enrolled in an agriculture-related field at an accredited college or university.

Moody’s Mega Math Challenge Scholarship

Description: Scholarship challenge is open to high school juniors and seniors. Applicants must form a team of three to five students and one teacher from the same school.

Ronald Reagan Presidential Foundation Scholars Program

Description: Scholarship is open to students in Ventura County, California who have demonstrated outstanding leadership, character, communication skills, academic achievement, and commitment to Ventura County.

Description: Applicant must be a high school senior who will be attending a four-year college in the Fall of 2016. Applicant must exhibit extraordinary leadership in their school and community and a meaningful effort to address issues of social justice.

Description: Applicant must be a U.S. high school senior graduating in the spring of 2016. Applicant must be a vegetarian and have promoted vegetarianism in their school and/or community.

Student Speakers Contest

Description: Contest is open to California residents in grades 9-12. Applicant must perform a 5-10 minute speech on a given topic.

Bobette Bibo Gugliotta Memorial Scholarship for Creative Writing
Sponsor: Silicon Valley Community Foundation
Amount: $1,000
Deadline: Feb. 24, 2016
Description: Scholarship is open to graduating seniors and graduates of public or private high schools in San Mateo or Santa Clara Counties who are planning to enroll or are currently enrolled in a four-year college or university as a full-time student. Applicant must submit two writing samples.

Create-A-Greeting-Card Scholarship Contest
Sponsor: The Gallery Collection
Amount: $10,000
Deadline: Feb. 25, 2016
Description: Scholarship contest is open to all high school, college and university students enrolled at any time during the latter half of 2015. Applicant must be a legal residents of the 50 United States, the District of Columbia, and U.S. territories. Applicant must submit a photo, artwork or computer graphic for the front of a greeting card.

Regions Riding Forward Scholarship Essay Contest

Description: Scholarship contest is open to high school seniors and college students who live and attend school in a state where Regions does business (see website for specific states). Applicant must submit an essay on what inspires them.

Student Video Contest

Description: Contest is open to high school students in grades 6-12. Applicant must create a short video (up to 60 seconds) about the human population growth that highlights one of the given global challenges.

Tesoro Youth Leadership Award

Deadline: Feb. 26, 2016
Description: Scholarship is open to high school seniors graduating in 2016 who are U.S. citizens or permanent residents of one of the 19 states where Tesoro does business. Applicant must also have a 3.0 GPA, financial need, and leadership experience.

CORE Que Llueva Café Scholarship

Description: Scholarship is open to college bound undocumented students of Chicano/Latino descent.

Congressional Black Caucus Spouses General Mills Health Scholarship

Description: Applicant must plan to enroll or be a student who is already enrolled in a full-time undergraduate or graduate field of study in medicine, engineering, technology, nutrition or another health-related field at an accredited two-year or four-year college, university, or vocational-technical school for the entire upcoming academic year. Applicant must live in a Congressional Black Caucus (CBC) district (look-up available at website).

Distinguished Raven FAC Memorial Scholarship

Deadline: Feb. 28, 2016
Description: Applicant must be a descendant or legal wards of any Lao or Hmong individual who served in the Royal Laotian Military or Hmong forces in defense of the Kingdom of Laos between 1960 and 1975. Applicant must also be a high school senior or graduate, and must be enrolled or actively seeking to enroll full-time in the coming academic year in an undergraduate program at an accredited college.

NAWIC Founders’ Undergraduate Scholarship

Description: Applicant must be currently enrolled in a construction-related degree program at a school in the United States.

Optimist International Essay Contest

Description: Applicant must be under the age of 19 and have not yet graduated from high school or the equivalent. Applicant must contact their local Optimist Club and submit an essay on a topic related to optimism.

The Atlantic & College Board Writing Prize

Description: Contest is open to students 16-19 years of age. Applicant must write an essay based on a work of art of the applicants choosing.

Youth Eco-Hero Scholarship
Sponsor: Action for Nature
Amount: Varies
Deadline: Feb. 28, 2016
Description: The award is available to students between the ages of eight and 16 who exhibit environmental activism. Applicant must carry out an action-based and self-initiated project that concerns environmental health, advocacy, research, or protection of the natural world.
