There are thousands of scholarships out there. Some are large scholarships that are well publicized, while others are lesser known. My goal is to share some lesser-known scholarships with my readers every Saturday.

Edison Scholars Program
Sponsor: Edison International
Amount: Varies
Deadline: Feb. 1, 2016
Description: Scholars program is open to high school seniors planning to pursue science, technology, engineering or math (STEM) at a four-year college or university on a full-time basis. Applicant must also have at least a 3.0 GPA and live in the Southern California Edison service territory.

EngineerGirl Essay Contest
Sponsor: National Academy of Engineering
Amount: Up to $500
Deadline: Feb. 1, 2016
Description: Essay contest is open to girls and boys in grades 3-12. Applicant must submit an essay on a given topic related to technology.

Harriet Fitzgerald Scholarship
Sponsor: The Sunflower Initiative
Amount: $10,000
Deadline: Feb. 1, 2016
Description: Scholarship is open to highly motivated female graduating high school seniors who have a desire to attend a women’s college in either the United States or Canada.

Naomi Winston Scholarship in Art
Sponsor: National Society of Arts and Letters
Amount: $5,000
Deadline: Feb. 1, 2016
Description: Applicant must be a U.S. citizen between the ages of 16 and 22 years of age. Applicant must submit five (5) art works done within the past two years.

ZGF Scholarship
Sponsor: Zimmer Gunsul Frasca Architects LLP
Amount: $10,000
Deadline: Feb. 1, 2016
Description: Scholarship is open to students beginning their final year in an NAAB Accredited architecture program in the fall of 2016 and who currently reside in the United States.

Scholarship for Woodworking Manufacturing Students
Sponsor: Woodworking Machinery Industry Association
Amount: Up to $5,000
Deadline: Feb. 3, 2016
Description: Scholarship is open to students planning to enroll in a wood science or wood technology program at an accredited two-year or four-year technical school, college or university in North America.

Northrop Grumman Engineering Scholars Program
Sponsor: Northrop Grumman
Amount: $2,500
Deadline: Feb. 4, 2016
Description: Applicant must be a graduating senior of a public or accredited private high school from one of the sponsoring locations (specific locations available on website). Applicant must plan to attend an accredited four-year college or university as a full-time student in an approved computer science, mathematics or physics program.

AMS Minority Scholarships
Sponsor: American Meteorological Society
Amount: $3,000
Deadline: Feb. 5, 2016
Description: Scholarship is open minority students who will be entering their freshman year of college in the fall of 2016 and are planning to pursue careers in the atmospheric or related oceanic and hydrologic sciences.

Drive2Life Contest
Sponsor: Scholastic Inc.
Amount: Up to $1,000
Deadline: Feb. 5, 2016
Description: Contest is open to students in grades 6-12. Contestant must create a storyboard or written script for a 30-second public service announcement (PSA) to help prevent distracted walking.

DuPont Challenge Science Essay Competition
Sponsor: DuPont Office of Education
Amount: Up to $5,000
Deadline: Feb. 5, 2016
Description: Competition is open to students enrolled in grades 6 though 12. Applicant must submit an essay on a given science-related topic.

MathMovesU Middle School Scholarship
Sponsor: MathMovesU
Amount: $1,000
Deadline: Feb. 5, 2016
Description: Scholarship is open to middle school students who are U.S. citizens or legal residents. Applicant must submit a PowerPoint illustrating the importance of math in the world around you.

Ritchie-Jennings Memorial Scholarship
Sponsor: Association of Certified Fraud Examiners (ACFE)
Amount: Up to $10,000
Deadline: Feb. 5, 2016
Description: Applicant must be a current undergraduate or graduate student enrolled at an accredited four-year college or university with enrollment through the 2016-2017 academic year. Applicant must have an interest in pursuing a career in fraud examination.

Winfield Scholarship
Sponsor: Winfield
Amount: $1,000
Deadline: Feb. 5, 2016
Description: Scholarship is open to high school seniors graduating in the spring of 2016 or college freshmen and sophomores. Student must have plans of pursuing a degree in agronomy, crop production, or a closely related field.

We The Students Scholarship Contest
Sponsor: Bill of Rights Institute
Amount: $5,000
Deadline: Feb. 7, 2016
Description: Contest is open to high school students between the ages of 14 and 19. Applicant must submit an essay on a given topic related to the Bill of Rights.
