The college visit is very important during the college search process. The viewbooks and websites you see for the different colleges are all going to be beautiful and will show off the best that the institution has to offer. Making prospective students want to attend the institution is the purpose behind these marketing materials. Every college will look attractive and great in marketing materials, but will it be the best place for you? The only way to know is to visit the college, get a feel for the campus, and meeting people who are part of the campus community.
Last year I recorded a podcast with Lauren Gaggioli on the topic of college visits. As someone who planned and coordinated many college visits, events and tours during my time as an admissions officer, I understand how important a college visit can be during the college search process. During the podcast I talk about the importance of the college visit, the pros and cons of the different types of college visits, and some of the things you should look for while visiting a college.
Lauren Gaggioli owns and operates Higher Scores Test Prep and produces The College Checklist Podcast. Check out her website and podcast for more great tips on the college admissions process.
