There are thousands of scholarships out there. Some are large scholarships that are well publicized, while others are lesser known. My goal is to share some lesser-known scholarships with my readers every Saturday.

Description: Scholarship is open to U.S. citizens and permanent residents who are at least 18 years of age and attending an accredited two or four-year college or university in the United States. Applicant must write a tweet about the best way to save money as a college student as well as an essay explaining the tweet.

Elie Wiesel Prize in Ethics Essay Contest
Sponsor: Elie Wiesel Foundation for Humanity
Amount: Up to $5,000
Deadline: Dec. 14, 2015
Description: Contest is open to registered undergraduate full-time juniors and seniors at accredited four-year colleges and universities in the United States. Applicant must submit an essay on a given topic related to an ethical issue.

Money Mission Financial Literacy Scholarship
Sponsor: Money Mission, LLC
Amount: $2,000
Deadline: Dec. 14, 2015
Description: Scholarship is open to high school seniors. Applicant must register to play a financial literacy game at the Money Mission’s website and then submit an essay on what you learned.

The Secret Mean Stinks Scholarship Contest

Deadline: Dec. 14, 2015
Description: Scholarship is open to legal residents of the 50 United States and the District of Columbia who are 17 years of age or older. Applicant must submit an essay describing a kind or nice act they committed.

Youth Free Expression Project Film Contest
Sponsor: National Coalition Against Censorship
Amount: Up to $1,000
Deadline: Dec. 14, 2015
Description: Contest is open to individuals either living in the U.S. or its territories (but need not be citizens), and be age 19 or younger on the day the film is submitted. Contestant must submit a film of four minutes or less on the topic, “That’s Not Funny! Can Comedy Cross a Line?

Description: Scholarship is open to U.S. high school students. Applicant must fill out a short form and tell them in 100 words or less what they hate about college applications.

Allegra Ford Thomas Scholarship
Sponsor: National Center for Learning Disabilities
Amount: $2,500
Deadline: Dec. 15, 2015
Description: Scholarship is open to graduating high school seniors who will be attending a two-year community college, a vocational/technical training program, or specialized program for students with LD in the fall of 2016. Applicant must also demonstrate financial need.

Anne Ford Scholarship
Sponsor: National Center for Learning Disabilities
Amount: $2,500
Deadline: Dec. 15, 2015
Description: Scholarship is open to graduating high school seniors with a documented learning disability who will be enrolled in a full-time bachelor’s degree program in the fall os 2016.

AXA Achievement Scholarship

Amount: Up to $25,000
Deadline: Dec. 15, 2015
Description: Scholarship is open to high school seniors who have demonstrated outstanding achievement in their activities in school, the community or the workplace. Applicants are encouraged to apply early as they will only accept the first 10,000 applications.

Burger King Scholars Program
Sponsor: Burger King McLamore Foundation
Amount: Up to $50,000
Deadline: Dec. 15, 2015
Description: Program is open to graduating high school seniors who live in the United States, Canada or Puerto Rico. Applicant must have a cumulative high school GPA of at least 2.5 and plan to enroll full-time, without interruption, for the entire 2016-17 academic year at an accredited two- or four-year college, university or vocational-technical school.

Description: Scholarship is open to graduating high school seniors and current college students. Applicant must submit a photo of themselves watching television in their favorite place and submit an essay describing why they chose that particular scenario.

Christopher Reeve Service Award
Sponsor: The American Heart of America Association
Amount: $1,000
Deadline: Dec. 15, 2015
Description: Award is a national recognition program that identifies inspirational individuals who have made extraordinary contributions to enrich the lives of others. Award is open to individuals between the ages of 13 and 18 years of age and student must be nominated by an adult.

Clark Scholarship
Sponsor: International Gem Society
Amount: $350
Deadline: Dec. 15, 2015
Description: Scholarship is open to students enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate degree program at any American college, university or trade school. Students DO NOT need to be studying gemology. Applicant must submit an essay on what they think the three most important scientific concepts underlying the study of gemology.

Flosum Scholarship

Deadline: Dec. 15, 2015
Description: Scholarship is open to graduating high school seniors and current college students in the United States. Applicant must be pursuing or intending to pursue their bachelor’s degree in the field of computer engineering, computer science or another technical discipline such as electrical engineering, physics or mathematics.

FORECLOSURE.COM Scholarship Program

Deadline: Dec. 15, 2015
Description: Scholarship is open to legal residents of the 50 United States, the U.S. territories, the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico who are 13 years of age or older and are currently enrolled in a U.S. accredited, post-secondary institution of higher learning. Applicant must submit an essay on a given topic related to the real estate and mortgage meltdown of several years ago.
