There are thousands of scholarships out there. Some are large scholarships that are well publicized, while others are lesser known. My goal is to share some lesser-known scholarships with my readers every Saturday.

Description: Scholarship is open to U.S. citizens who are full-time students attending (or planning to attend on a full-time basis) an accredited institution of higher learning. Open to students of all majors. Applicant must submit an essay on a given topic related to education.

Luis E. Torres Scholarship Award

Description: Scholarship is open to graduating high school seniors and current college students. Applicant must have overcome a medical hardship.

Life Investment for Education Fund

Description: Scholarship is open to students enrolled in a secondary education institution or accepted to attend by Aug. 1, 2015. Applicant must submit completed application, transcript(s), two letters of recommendation, and an essay.

Albertson & Davidson College Scholarship

Description: Scholarship is open to individuals who are currently attending or are planning on attending an accredited United States college or university during the fall 2015 semester. Applicant must submit an essay on what steps lawmakers can take to help prevent financial elder abuse from becoming an even larger problem in the future.

Description: Scholarship is open to permanent, legal residents of the 50 United States and the District of Columbia who are 18 years of age or older and currently enrolled in a college or university in the 50 United States. Applicant must register with Noodle.

Description: Scholarship is open to current college students of an accredited U.S. university or college. Applicant must submit a video or essay on personal development or high performance.

Arctic Physical Therapy Fairbanks

Description: Scholarship is open to residents of the U.S. or Canada who will be attending a college or university no later than January 2016. Applicant must submit an essay on a topic related to Physical Therapy. Scholarship is open to students of any major.

Description: According to sources, “texting and driving is a major cause of accidents, but 1 in 4 teens still does it.” Applicant must provide name, cell phone number, and the cell phone numbers of three friend to be entered into the sweepstakes. Description: Scholarship is open to legal residents of the U.S. who are at 18 years of age and enrolled in a post-secondary educational institution. Applicant must submit an essay on how their creativity is changing the world for the better and helped define who they are.

Leaders Save Lives Scholarship Program

Amount: Up to $2,500
Deadline: Aug. 31, 2015
Description: Scholarship is open to students between the ages of 16 and 24 and currently enrolled in a high school, college, technical school, trade school or community college. Applicant must host an American Red Cross blood drive between Jun. 1 and Aug. 31, 2015.

Lexington Law Scholarship Award

Amount: $5,000
Deadline: Aug. 31, 2015
Description: Applicant must be a current, full-time student of an accredited U.S. university or college with a cumulative grade point average of at least 2.5. Applicant must submit an essay related to repairing or establishing good credit.

Make Me Laugh Scholarship

Description: Scholarship is open to students 13 years of age or older who are legal residents of the 50 United States or the District of Columbia who are currently enrolled (or will enroll no later than the fall of 2021) in an accredited post-secondary institution of higher education. Path to Success Scholarship

Description: Scholarship is open to high school seniors and any student enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate degree program by Aug. 31, 2015 at any accredited U.S. college, university or institute. Applicant must submit an essay on an obstacle they have faced in the past.
