There are thousands of scholarships out there. Some are large scholarships that are well publicized, while others are lesser known. My goal is to share some lesser-known scholarships with my readers every Saturday.

Description: Scholarship is open to students with sickle cell disease who are pursing higher education.

Marketing EDGE Scholarship Awards

Description: Scholarship is open to students currently enrolled in an accredited four-year institution. Students transferring from a two-year school to a four-year university by fall 2015 semester are eligible to apply. Applicant must show a commitment to pursing a career in marketing.

Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute Scholarship

Description: Scholarship is open to current two-year or four-year college students and graduate students in the United States who classify themselves as Latino or Hispanic. Applicant must have consistent and active participation in public and/or community service activities.

Description: Scholarship is open to students with a noteworthy physical disability. Applicant must submit an essay on how their physical limitation(s) has/have presented challenge(s) and how they have worked to persevere despite them.

Michael J. Quill Scholarship

Amount: Up to $4,800 paid out in the amount of $1,200 per year.

Description: Scholarship is open to high school seniors who are children or dependents of a TWU member in good standing, deceased member, or pensioner.

Verbal Ink Transcription Services Scholarship

Description: Scholarship is open to graduating high school seniors and current college freshman. Applicant must submit an essay on how language has helped the student express their voice.

Money Mission Financial Literacy Scholarship

Description: Scholarship is open to high school seniors. Applicants must register to play a financial literacy game at the Money Mission’s website and then submit an essay on what you learned.

Description: Scholarship is open to graduating high school seniors and college freshman or sophomores who play or compete in a sport. Applicant must submit an essay on how they have overcome adversity to succeed in a sport.

Description: Scholarship is open to female students entering their junior or senior year in college, as well as graduate students, who are of Armenian descent. Scholarship is based on financial need and merit.

Description: Contest is open to anyone ages 13 years of age and older who are legal residents of the 50 United States and the District of Columbia. Contestant must create a trailer that is no longer than one minute.

Description: Scholarship is open to citizens or legal residents of the United States who are high school seniors or home school students with an anticipated summer 2015 graduation or GED completion. Applicant must submit a blog post on a topic related to values.

Description: Scholarship is open to graduating high school seniors or currently enrolled students in an undergraduate program. Applicant does not have to be from New Jersey in order to qualify for the scholarship. Applicants are asked to capture the most amazing piece of New Jersey. Acceptable submission formats include video/film, essay, photo essay, poem, song, and visual art.
