There are thousands of scholarships out there. Some are large scholarships that are well publicized, while others are lesser known. My goal is to share some lesser-known scholarships with my readers every Saturday.

Description: Scholarship is open to undergraduate or graduate students attending a two-year or four-year HACU-member institution within the following states: Arizona, California, Colorado, D.C., Florida, Georgia, Illinois, North Carolina, New Mexico, Nevada, New York, South Carolina, Texas, and Washington. Applicant must demonstrate financial need. Applicant must also submit an essay on how Denny’s can help in the fight against childhood hunger in the United States.

Creativity Scholarship Contest

Deadline: Apr. 3, 2015
Description: Scholarship is open to high school juniors and seniors who are legal residents of the United States. Applicant must submit an original design that students in grades K-12 would find appealing that could be applied to pencils, bookmarks, folders, and other products.

Robert Novak Collegiate Journalism Award

Amount: Up to $2,500

Description: Award is open to undergraduate students currently enrolled in a four-year college or university in the United States. Applicants must submit news stories that have been published in a college or university newspaper/publication or in an online version.

Students Rising Above Scholars Program

Deadline: Apr. 4, 2015
Description: Scholars program is open to high school juniors from low-income families and live within the nine-county California Bay Area. Student must have demonstrated strength of character in the face of challenging odds, and dream of a college education.

BCL – Massage Envy Spas – Massage Scholarship

Description: Scholarship is open to prospective or newer students entering a massage program at a qualifying massage therapy program school. Applicant must submit a short video or an essay on a given topic.

Description: Scholarship is open to students who will be full-time undergraduate students in the fall term and have a congenital limb difference or an amputation.

Great Lakes National Scholarship Program

Description: Scholarship is open to high school seniors or current college students who have financial need. Applicant must be majoring in a STEM related major. Only the first 20,000 applications submitted electronically will be accepted.

ExxonMobil Bernard Harris Math and Science Scholarship

Description: Scholarship is open to African American and Hispanic students completing their senior year of high school in a member of the Council of the Great City Schools. Applicant must have a commitment to pursue a career in a STEM field.

Description: Contest is open to legal residents of the 50 United States and the District of Columbia between the ages of 14 and 22 years of age. VSA Playwright Discovery Competition

Description: Competition is open to young writers with and without disabilities in U.S. grades 6-12 (or equivalents) or ages 11-18 for non-U.S. students. Student must submit a one-act script of any genre exploring the disability experience.

Stockholm Junior Water Prize Competition

Description: Competition is open to students ages 15-20 in grades 9-12. Applicant must submit a water-related science project. Teams of up to three students may enter.
