There are thousands of scholarships out there. Some are large scholarships that are well publicized, while others are lesser known. My goal is to share some lesser-known scholarships with my readers every Saturday.

Description: Scholarship is open to students currently attending or planning on attending college or graduate school in the near future. Applicant must submit an essay on a given topic related to automobile accidents.

Dr. Abdulmunim A. Shakir Scholarship
Sponsor: Islamic Society of North America
Award Amount: $1,000
Deadline: Feb. 1, 2015
Description: Scholarship is open to Muslim American high school seniors who will be entering college as a freshman. Scholarship is awarded based on academic achievement, leadership experience, and volunteer service.

SME Education Foundation Scholarships
Sponsor: Society of Manufacturing Engineers (SME) Education Foundation
Award Amount: Up to $70,000
Deadline: Feb. 1, 2015
Description: Scholarships are open to graduating high school seniors, current undergraduates, master’s or doctoral degree students who are pursuing degree in manufacturing or a related field at a two-year or four-year college or university. Multiple scholarships are available.

Northrop Grumman Engineering Scholars Program
Sponsor: Northrop Grumman
Award Amount: $2,500
Deadline: Feb. 4, 2015
Description: Applicant must be a graduating senior of a public or accredited private high school from one of the sponsoring locations (specific locations available on website). Applicant must plan to attend an accredited four-year college or university as a full-time student in an approved computer science, mathematics or physics program.

Intertek Scholarship Program
Sponsor: Intertek
Award Amount: Up to $10,000
Deadline: Feb. 6, 2015
Description: Applicant must be an English-speaking U.S. or Canadian citizen who is currently enrolled full-time as an undergraduate sophomore or junior at an accredited college or university in the United States or Canada. Applicant must also be majoring in or pursuing studies in STEM.

Drive2Life Contest
Sponsor: Scholastic Inc.
Award Amount: Up to $1,000
Deadline: Feb. 10, 2015
Description: Contest is open to students in grades 6-12. Contestant must create a storyboard or written script for a 30-second public service announcement (PSA) to help prevent distracted walking.

Scholarships4mom.net Scholarship

Award Amount: $10,000
Deadline: Feb. 13, 2015
Description: Applicant must be 18 years of age or older and a permanent resident of the United States. Applicant must also be currently enrolled, or will be enrolled within the next three months, in a college or university in the United States.

Significant Challenge College Scholarship

Award Amount: $3,500
Deadline: Feb. 13, 2015
Description: Scholarship is open to legal U.S. citizens currently enrolled in a U.S. accredited high school who will graduate in the Spring of 2015. Applicant must have taken challenging courses throughout high school career and has demonstrated strong leadership roles within the community.

“Business Plan” Scholarship for Students With Disabilities

Award Amount: $1,000
Deadline: Feb. 15, 2015
Description: Scholarship is open to students enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate degree program in the Fall 2014 or Spring 2015 at an accredited American college, university or trade school with a documented disability. Applicant must write an essay on what they learned from writing a business plan.

Accelerated Genetics Scholarship
Sponsor: Accelerated Genetics
Award Amount: $500
Deadline: Feb. 15, 2015
Description: Scholarship is open to high school seniors planning to major in agriculture at a short course vocational technical college or four-year university. Any high school senior who has participated in FFA, 4-H, any of the various breed organizations or any agriculture organization is eligible to apply.

AFA Teens for Alzheimer’s Awareness College Scholarship
Sponsor: Alzheimer’s Foundation of America
Award Amount: $5,000
Deadline: Feb. 15, 2015
Description: Applicant must be a high school student who will be entering an accredited four-year college or university within 12 months of the deadline. Applicant must submit an essay on a topic related to Alzheimer’s disease.

American Indian Services Scholarship
Sponsor: American Indian Services (AIS)
Deadline: Feb. 15, 2015
Description: Applicant must be one-quarter (1/4) Northern-Native American Indian and enrolled in a university, junior college, or technical school.

Carl N. & Margaret Karcher Founders’ 2015 Scholarship Program
Sponsor: Carl’s Jr.
Award Amount: $1,000
Deadline: Feb. 15, 2015
Description: Scholarship is open to students, age 21 and under, who reside in Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, Hawaii, Idaho, Louisiana, Nevada, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Oregon, Texas, Utah or Washington. Application must be a high school senior or graduate who plans to enroll for the first time in full-time undergraduate study at an accredited two-year or four-year college, university, or vocational-technical school for the entire upcoming academic year.

DAR General Scholarships

Description: Applicant must be a citizen of the United States and must attend or plan to attend an accredited college or university in the United States. Multiple scholarships are available.

Jackie Robinson Foundation Scholarship
Sponsor: Jackie Robinson Foundation
Award Amount: Up to $7,500
Deadline: Feb. 15, 2015
Description: Scholarship is open to graduating, minority high school seniors who plan on attending an accredited and approved four-year institution within the United States. Applicant must show leadership potential, dedication to community service, and evidence of financial need.

Love Letters Scholarship
Sponsor: Do Something
Award Amount: $10,000
Deadline: Feb. 15, 2015
Description: Applicant must be 26 years of age or younger. Applicant must make a homemade valentine’s card for an older adult and give to Meals on Wheels for delivery. Student will receive one entry for the first card donated, and an additional entry for every additional three (3) cards donated.

Make It Happy Scholarship

Deadline: Feb. 15, 2015
Description: Almost half of young people have seen or experienced online harassment. Sign up to be notified on Feb. 1 to learn about the challenge that can help with the problem of online harassment.

RiSE Scholarship
Sponsor: RiSE Scholarship Foundation
Deadline: Feb. 15, 2015
Description: Applicant must be current high school, college bound senior, who has submitted applications to and is planning on attending an accredited college university. Applicant must have a documented learning disability (a diagnosis of ADHD or ADD alone does not qualify).

Tall Clubs International Student Scholarship
Sponsor: Tall Clubs International (TCI)
Award Amount: $1,000
Deadline: Feb. 15, 2015
Description: Scholarship is open to students who will be attending their first year of college in fall 2015. Women applicants must be at least 5’10” and men applicants must be 6’2″.

Teens for Jeans Scholarship

Award Amount: $10,000
Deadline: Feb. 15, 2015
Description: Scholarship is open to students 25 years or younger. For every 2 pairs of jeans a student collects and donates, they will receive an entry into the lottery.

Pork Industry Scholarships

Deadline: Feb. 17, 2015
Description: Scholarship is open to junior and seniors in college who plan to pursue a career in swine production management or a related field, or will be seeking to attend veterinary or graduate school and major in a discipline with an emphasis on swine.

The Christophers’ Poster Contest for High School Students

Award Amount: Up to $1,000
Deadline: Feb. 18 2015
Description: Contest is open to students in grades nine through twelve. Contestant must create an original poster based on the theme, “You Can Make a Difference.”

2015 College Hopes and Worries Survey Scholarship
Sponsor: The Princeton Review
Award Amount: $2,000
Deadline: Feb. 18, 2015
Description: Applicant must be a resident of the United States and District of Columbia and 13 years of age or older. Student (or parent) must fill out a survey about their thoughts on the college search and college admissions process.

Create-A-Greeting-Card Scholarship Contest
Sponsor: The Gallery Collection
Award Amount: $10,000
Deadline: Feb. 18, 2015
Description: Scholarship contest is open to all high school, college and university students enrolled at any time in 2014 who are legal residents of the 50 United States, the District of Columbia, and U.S. territories. Applicant must submit a photo, artwork or computer graphic for the front of a greeting card.

Gordon A. Rich Memorial Scholarship
Sponsor: Gordon A. Rich Memorial Foundation (GAR)
Award Amount: $12,500
Deadline: Feb. 18, 2015
Description: Applicant must be a dependent child of a full-time employee in the financial services industry. Employee must be presently employed with five years of experience OR no longer employed in the field but had ten years of experience which ended no longer than five years prior to scholarship. Scholarship is open to high school seniors who are enrolling as a full-time first-year student in pursuit of a four-year bachelor’s degree at an accredited college or university in the United States.

Michael Yasick ADHD Scholarship
Sponsor: Shire US Inc.
Award Amount: $2,000
Deadline: Feb. 18, 2015
Description: Scholarship is open to students who have been diagnosed with ADHD and is under the care of a licensed health care professional for ADHD. Applicant must be accepted to or will be enrolled in a 2- or 4-year undergraduate program at an accredited college, university, trade school, technical school, or vocational school located in the United States.

Student Video Contest
Sponsor: World of 7 Billion
Award Amount: Up to $1,000
Deadline: Feb. 19, 2015
Description: Contest is open to high school students in grades 9-12. Applicant must create a short video (up to 60 seconds) about the human population program that highlights one of the given facts.
