There are thousands of scholarships out there. Some are large scholarships that are well publicized, while others are lesser known. My goal is to share some lesser-known scholarships with my readers every Saturday.

Description: Applicant must be 15 years of age or older, is a legal resident of one of the 50 United States or the District of Columbia or an international student with valid student visas, is currently enrolled in high school, and completes Zoomita registration. Applicant must be enrolled (or enroll no later than the fall of 2018) in an accredited post-secondary institution of higher learning within the United States.

Description: Scholarship is open to students currently enrolled at an accredited high school, college or university within the United States. Applicant must submit an essay related to investments in gold.

Description: Applicant must be a current high school student at a school in the United States. Applicant must submit a project proposal on a science or engineering idea.

John F. Kennedy Profile in Courage Essay Contest

Description: Applicant must be in grades 9-12 and must submit an essay on a topic related to political courage.

Young Patriots Essay Contest

Diller Teen Tikkun Olam Awards

Description: Award is open to Jewish teens who are between the ages of 13 and 19 at the time of nomination. Student must have demonstrated impressive leadership and are actively engaged in community service projects that embody the value of tikkun olam (repair of the world).

Gates Millennium Scholars Program

Description: Scholarship is open for students who will enroll for the first time at a U.S. accredited college or university in the fall of 2015. Applicant must be African-American, American Indian, Alaska Native, Asian Pacific Islander American, or Hispanic American.

BMW/SAE Engineering Scholarship

Description: Scholarship is for high school seniors who will be pursuing an engineering or related science degree through an ABET accredited program. Applicant must have a 3.75 GPA and be ranked in the 90th percentile in both math and critical reading on the SAT or composite ACT score.

Description: Applicant must have multiple sclerosis, or have a parent with multiple sclerosis. Applicant must be working towards an undergraduate degree during the 2015-2016 academic year.

Description: Applicant must be students in 9th through 12th grade. Applicant must write a short essay on a topic relating to the Star-Spangled Banner.

Description: Student must be 16 years of age or older and enrolled at an accredited high school, college, or university in the United States. Applicant must submit an essay on how medical equipment technology has changed the face of a college course and curriculum.
