There are thousands of scholarships out there. Some are large scholarships that are well publicized, while others are lesser known. My goal is to share some lesser-known scholarships with my readers every Saturday.

Scholastic Art & Writing Awards Scholarships

Deadline: Dec. 17, 2014
Description: Applicant must be current student in grades 7-12, who are enrolled in a public, private, parochial, homeschool, or after-school program in the United States, Canada, or an American school abroad. There are multiple art, writing, and special categories to choose from.

FootLocker Scholar Athletes Program
Sponsor: Foot Locker
Amount: $20,000 dispersed evenly over four years – 20 winners
Deadline: Dec. 18, 2014
Description: Applicant must involved in high school sports, intramural sports, or community based sports and be entering college in the Fall of 2015 as a Freshman at a four-year school for an undergraduate degree.

NFIB Young Entrepreneur Awards
Sponsor: National Federation of Independent Business
Amount: Up to $10,000
Deadline: Dec. 18, 2014
Description: Award is open to graduating high school seniors entering their freshman year at an accredited two- or four-year university, college or vocational/technical institute. Applicant must be running his or her own small business.

Love Your Body Poster Contest
Sponsor: National Organization for Women Foundation
Amount: Up to $250
Deadline: Dec. 19, 2014
Description: Contests is open to everyone as young as elementary school age. Contestant must submit a poster related to the “Love Your Body” campaign.

Study Abroad Scholarship

Amount: $1,000
Deadline: Dec. 20, 2014
Description: Applicant must be a full-time undergraduate student in good academic standing at a four-year, degree-granting college or university. Applicant must also have applied to or been accepted into a study abroad program eligible for credit by your college or university.

“Impact a Life” College Scholarship

Amount: Up to $1,000
Deadline: Dec. 31, 2014
Description: Applicant must be 18 years of age or older and enrolled in or accepted to an undergraduate or graduate program at an accredited college, university or trade school in the United States. Applicant must submit an essay on a given topic related to raffles, fundraising, and marketing.

#PAYMYCOLLEGEAPPS Giveaway
Sponsor: Zinch, a service of Chegg, Inc.
Amount: Up to $2,000
Deadline: Dec. 31, 2014
Description: Contest is open to all current high school students in the United States. Student must list the colleges they plan to apply to (up to 20). If selected, Zinch will pay the application fees up to a total of $2,000.

$10,000 Unigo Scholarship

Description: Scholarship is open to any high school senior or college student. However, preference is given to those currently enrolled in Nursing school, Medical school, Pharmacy school, Respiratory therapy program, Paramedic program, or EMT program.

Alice Madden Barton Scholarship

Description: Scholarship is open to students pursuing a career in cosmetology or barbering.

Anne Ford Scholarship

Amount: $10,000 ($2,500/year over four years)

Description: Applicant must be a graduating high school senior with financial need and a documented learning disability.

Apprentice Ecologist Initiative Youth Scholarship Program

Amount: Up to $500
Deadline: Dec. 31, 2014
Description: Applicant must be between the ages of 13 and 21 and be currently enrolled at an accredited middle school, high school, college, or university. Applicant must conduct his or her own environmental stewardship project in 2014.

Car Accident Injury Survivor Scholarship

Deadline: Dec. 31, 2014
Description: Applicant must be currently enrolled in an accredited college or university within the United States and have sustained injuries from a car or truck accident.

Corrosion in Motion Student Competition
Sponsor: NACE International
Amount: $3,000
Deadline: Dec. 31, 2014
Description: Contest is open to full-time students currently enrolled in high school or an accredited university or college. Contestant must submit a 4-minute video about the effects of corrosion.

Dr. Juan Andrade, Jr. Scholarship for Young Hispanic Leaders – link no longer available now that deadline has passed
Sponsor: United Hispanic Leadership Institute
Amount: Up to $1,000
Deadline: Dec. 31, 2014
Description: Applicant must have at least one parent of Hispanic ancestry and currently enrolled or accepted for full-time enrollment in a two- or four-year institution in the United States or its territories. Applicant must also demonstrate financial need.

Entrepreneur of the Year Scholarship

Amount: $1,000
Deadline: Dec. 31, 2014
Description: Applicant must be enrolled in either a 2-year or 4-year or graduate degree program and must have an idea for a business. Applicant must submit a business plan and an essay explaining why you want to start a business.

Gen and Kelly Tanabe Scholarship

Description: Applicant must be current high school, college or graduate school student in the United States. Applicant must submit a short personal essay.

George S. & Stella M. Knight Essay Contest

Description: Contest is open to current high school students in the United States. Contestant must submit an essay based on original research and deal with an event, person, philosophy or ideal associated with the American Revolution, Declaration of Independence, or the framing of the United States Constitution

Description: Applicant must be a female of Hispanic, African-American, Asian/Pacific Islander or other minority currently enrolled in an accredited college, university or allied health institution in the United States and plan to be enrolled in the Fall of 2015.
