There are thousands of scholarships out there. Some are large scholarships that are well publicized, while others are lesser known. My goal is to share some lesser-known scholarships with my readers every Saturday.

Description: Open to male high school seniors and college students who are United States Bowling Congress members.

Earl Anthony Memorial Scholarship

Description: Open to graduating high school seniors and current college students who are members of the United States Bowling Congress in good standing. Student must show financial need.

Description: Applicant must be currently pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree in science or engineering.

Jack Kent Cooke Foundation Undergraduate Transfer Scholarship Program

Description: Applicant must be transferring from a two-year institution to a bachelor degree program.

National Space Club Keynote Scholarship

Description: Applicant must be a high school senior, undergraduate student or graduate student planning to pursue a career in science, technology, engineering, or math (STEM) fields.

Wal-Mart Associate Scholarship

Description: Applicant must be employed part-time or full-time with any division of Wal-Mart for at least six consecutive months. Applicant must be current college student.

P.L.A.Y. Scholarship

Deadline: December 3, 2014
Description: Applicant must be a high school junior or senior who is passionate about helping animals in need.

Beat the Odds Scholarship Program 
Sponsor: Children’s Defense Fund – Texas
Amount: $5,000
Deadline: December 5, 2014
Description: Applicant must be a high school senior in the Houston area (including Dayton/Liberty county) who will attend a college, university, or vocational school the following fall. Student must also have experienced and overcome adversity.

Bluetooth Breakthrough Award

Deadline: December 5, 2014
Description: Applicant must be a high school, undergraduate or graduate student. Applicant must submit an idea that demonstrates how Bluetooth technology can be used in new ways.

Most Valuable Student Competition

Description: Scholarship is open to any high school senior who is a citizen of the United States. Applicant must demonstrate academic achievement, leadership, and financial need.

Novus Biologicals Scholarship Program

Description: Applicant must be current college student with a declared major in a science related field.

Rosenfeld Injury Lawyers’ Single Mother Scholarship

Description: Applicant must be a mother who is enrolled in an accredited high school, college or university in the United States.

Stephen J. Brady Stop Hunger Scholarships

Description: Scholarship is open to U.S. students who are enrolled in an accredited educational institution (kindergarten through graduate school). Contestant must have demonstrated on-going commitment to their community by performing unpaid volunteer services impacting hunger in the United States.

We The Students Scholarship Contest

Amount: Up to $5,000
Deadline: December 5, 2014
Description: Scholarship is open to students ages 14 to 19. Applicant must submit an essay of 800 or less words about the Declaration of Independence.

Youth Free Expression Project Film Contest
Sponsor: National Coalition Against Censorship (NCAC)
Amount: Up to $1,000
Deadline: December 7, 2014
Description: Contestant must be 19 years of age or younger. Contestant must submit a short film (four minutes or less) on a given topic related to censorship and free speech.

Elie Wiesel Prize in Ethics Essay Contest
Sponsor: Elie Wiesel Foundation for Humanity
Amount: Up to $5,000
Deadline: December 8, 2014
Description: Contestant must be an undergraduate junior or senior attending an accredited four-year college or university in the United States. Applicant must submit an unpublished essay on a given topic related to ethics.

Musical Mix-Up Scholarship
Sponsor: Do Something
Amount: $10,000
Deadline: December 9, 2014
Description: Applicant must be under the age of 26. Applicant must create a creative musical chairs came to get other students to mix-up everyone in the cafeteria to encourage new friendships.
