There are thousands of scholarships out there. Some are large scholarships that are well publicized, while others are lesser known. My goal is to share some lesser-known scholarships with my readers every Saturday.

National High School Essay Contest
Sponsor: Omega Psi Phi Fraternity
Amount: Up to $5,000
Deadline: October 24, 2014
Eligibility: Contest is open to all college-bound high school seniors.
Requirements: Contestant must submit an essay of 700 to 750 words. A local Omega Psi Phi Fraternity must also sponsor contestant.

#FutureSelfie Scholarship
Sponsor: BankRate
Amount: Up to $3,000
Deadline: October 31, 2014
Eligibility: Scholarship is open to US residents who are high school seniors or already enrolled in college.
Requirements: Applicant must submit a selfie that illustrates your future self.

Build U. Scholarship
Sponsor: Buildium
Amount: $2,500
Deadline: October 31, 2014
Eligibility: Applicant must be a current student at an accredited university enrolled in a Product Design, Interaction Design, UX Design, Engineering, or Computer Science program.
Requirements: Applicant must submit an essay with 1,000 words and an unofficial transcript.

CARiD Scholarship Program
Sponsor: CARiD
Amount: $1,000
Deadline: October 31, 2014
Eligibility: Applicant must be a current US student enrolled in a post-secondary education in the upcoming semester.
Requirements: Applicant must submit a photo inspired by any aspect of the automotive industry.

Coca Cola Scholarships
Sponsor: Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation
Amount: Varies – over 1,400 awards
Deadline: October 31, 2014
Eligibility: Applicant must be a current high school (or home-schooled) senior attending school in the US. Applicant must also be US citizen, US national or US permanent resident with at least a 3.0 GPA.
Requirements: Applicant must submit completed application.

COIT Clean Living Scholarship
Sponsor: COIT
Amount: $2,000
Deadline: October 31, 2014
Eligibility: Applicant must be enrolled in either an undergraduate or graduate program at an accredited college or university in the US or Canada. International students are welcome to apply.
Requirements: Applicant must create a quick video (3 min max) explaining what clean living means for you. Tell us a story about how you take care of your living space.

Get Up Get Active Scholarship
Sponsor: Get Up Get Active
Amount: $1,000
Deadline: October 31, 2014
Eligibility: Applicant must be a high school, college or graduate school student who is a US resident or legal resident.
Requirements: Applicant must submit short online application and 500-word essay.

Lance Stafford Larson Student Scholarship
Sponsor: Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) Computer Society
Amount: $500
Deadline: October 31, 2014
Eligibility: Open to all undergraduate students who are IEEE Computer Society members.
Requirements: Applicant must provide general information, academic paper, and a brief statement explaining why you believe your paper is worthy of the award.

Ohleyer Award
Sponsor: The Olympic Club Foundation
Amount: $4,000
Deadline: October 31, 2014
Eligibility: Applicant must reside in the San Francisco Bay Area. Applicant must demonstrate outstanding leadership in academics, athletics and community service. Applicant must be nominated by high school.
Requirements: School must submit completed application, transcript and recommendation.

Pertino IT Innovation Scholarship Program
Sponsor: Pertino
Amount: $1,000
Deadline: October 31, 2014
Eligibility: Applicant must be a legal US resident who currently is enrolled full-time at an accredited university or business school in the US.
Requirements: Applicant must submit a 500-700 word blog post, transcript and one letter of recommendation.

Richard E. Merwin Student Scholarship
Sponsor: Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) Computer Society
Amount: Varies
Deadline: October 31, 2014
Eligibility: Applicant must be a graduate student or in the final two years of an undergraduate program in electronica or computer engineering, computer science, or a well-defined computer related field. Applicant must have at least a 2.5 GPA.
Requirements: Applicant must submit completed application, college transcripts, and letter of recommendations.

S. Radhakrishnan Memorial Scholarship
Sponsor: S. R. Foundation
Amount: $1,000
Deadline: October 31, 2014
Eligibility: Applicant must be either directly or indirectly affected by cancer and enrolled as a full-time student at a 2 or 4-year accredited college or university in the United State this fall of 2014.
Requirements: Applicant must submit completed application and two essays.

The William Gary Allen Scholarship
Sponsor: William Gary Allen
Amount: $1,500
Deadline: October 31, 2014
Eligibility: Applicant must be enrolled full-time in an accredited university or college in the US. Applicant must also have a 3.0 GPA, majoring in or focusing on architecture, civil engineering, city planning, environmental services or related fields. Lastly, applicant must be a US citizen or permanent resident.
Requirements: Applicant must submit short online form and an essay with 1,000 words about “Home of the Future.”

Twist and Shout Slam
Sponsor: Power Poetry
Amount: $1,000
Deadline: October 31, 2014
Eligibility: Contestant must be 25 years of age or younger and a current or former high school student who will attend/is attending college within the US or its territories.
Requirements: Contestant must register with Power Poet and submit an original poem.

Upsilon Pi Epsilon Student Award for Academic Excellence
Sponsor: Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) Computer Society
Amount: $500 – 4 Awards
Deadline: October 31, 2014
Eligibility: Open to graduate and undergraduate students who are IEEE Computer Society members, and full-time students at an academic institution are eligible.
Requirements: Applicant must submit completed application, three letters of recommendation, and official transcripts.

Zombie Apocalypse Scholarship
Sponsor: ScholarshipExperts.com
Amount: $2,000
Deadline: October 31, 2014
Eligibility: Applicant must be at least 13 years of age, a legal resident of the US or the District of Columbia and currently enrolled (or enroll no later than the fall of 2020) in an accredited post-secondary institution of higher education.
Requirements: Applicant must register with ScholarshipExperts.com and a short written response (250 words or less) to a question about zombies.
