There are thousands of scholarships out there. Some are large scholarships that are well publicized, while others are lesser known. My goal is to share some lesser-known scholarships with my readers every Saturday.

Here are your scholarships for Saturday, September 6, 2014

NACIS Student Map and Poster Competition
Sponsor: North American Cartographic Information Society (NACIS)
Amount: $500
Deadline: September 12, 2014
Eligibility: Applicant must have been enrolled in an undergraduate, graduate, or certificate-granting program during the 2013-2014 academic year.
Requirements: Contestant must submit a map, research poster, or other displays of cartography-related work that was completed during the 2013-2014 academic year.

First Sergeant Douglas and Charlotte DeHorse Scholarship
Sponsor: Catching the Dream
Amount: Varies
Deadline: September 15, 2014
Eligibility: Applicant must be an American Indian student who has completed one year of any military program and currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program of study.
Requirements: Applicant must submit completed application, letters of recommendation, personal essay and high school transcripts.

Native American Leadership Education Scholarship
Sponsor: Catching the Dream
Amount: $500 – $5,000
Deadline: September 15, 2014
Eligibility: Applicant must be ¼ or more degree American Indian and be an enrolled member of a U.S. tribe. Applicant must be attending or planning on attending a college or university within the U.S. on a full-time basis that is fully accredited.
Requirements: Applicant must submit completed application, comprehensive essay, proof of tribal enrollment, letter of recommendation and financial documents.

#ROCKtheSAT Scholarship
Sponsor: Testive
Amount: $500
Deadline: September 15, 2014. Scholarship is offered every month.
Eligibility: Students must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident, 13 years of age or older, and be a high school junior who expects to take the SAT in the next 12 months. Student must also have a Testive account (or create an account – it’s free!).
Requirements: Student receives one entry for each day you answer a question and one entry for each student you successfully refer during the month campaign.

Varsity Tutors $1,000 Scholarship
Sponsor: Varsity Tutors
Amount: $1,000
Deadline: September 15, 2014. Scholarship is offered every month.
Eligibility: Scholarship is limited to individuals who are at least 16 years. Applicants must be a legal residence of one of the fifty United States or the District of Columbia.
Requirements: Write an essay between 200 and 900 words and then promote entry on social media.

Backseat Advisor Scholarship
Sponsor: Do Something
Amount: $10,000
Deadline: September 24, 2014
Eligibility: Contestant must be a U.S. citizen under the age of 26.
Requirements: Contestant must send friends facts and phrases about texting and driving through the DoSomething website.

AfterCollege Scholarships
Sponsor: AfterCollege
Amount: Varies
Deadline: September 30, 2014
Eligibility: Most scholarships are open to incoming freshmen and current undergraduate and graduate students. GPA requirements are different for each major – visit website for specific information.
Requirements: Each scholarship has different requirements. Check website for details.

Hispanic Heritage Youth Awards
Sponsor: Hispanic Heritage Foundation
Amount: $1,000
Deadline: September 30, 2014
Eligibility: Applicant must be a current high school senior planning to enroll in college in the 2015-2016 academic year. Applicant must be a citizen or permanent resident of the US of Hispanic/Latino descent (at least one parent). Lastly, applicant must have a minimum 3.0 GPA.
Requirements: Applicant must submit four copies of the completed application, letter of recommendation and school transcript.

JW Surety Bonds Scholarship
Sponsor: JW Surety Bonds
Amount: Up to $25,000
Deadline: September 30, 2014
Eligibility: Scholarship is open to students and prospective students of accredited U.S. colleges and university.
Requirements: Applicant must submit the scholarship entry form and an informational piece with references sources on the acceptable topics the organization provides. There is no limit to entries for the scholarship.

Odenza Marketing Group Scholarship
Sponsor: Odenza Marketing Group
Amount: $500
Deadline: September 30, 2014
Eligibility: Applicant must be a citizen of the United States or Canada and be between the ages of 16 and 25. Applicant must have at least one full year of post secondary studies remaining at the time of award (current high school students are eligible). Lastly, applicant must have a GPA of 2.5 or greater.
Requirements: Applicant must submit scholarship application and two short (500 words or less) essays.

PayrollCompanies.US Scholarship
Sponsor: PayrollCompanies.US
Amount: $1,000
Deadline: September 30, 2014
Eligibility: Applicant must be a U.S. citizen or permanent legal resident of the United States and currently enrolled in an undergraduate program.
Requirements: Applicant must submit short online form and an essay of 1,000 words or more.

Scholarship Poetry Contest
Sponsor: Live Poets Society of New Jersey
Amount: $100 – $500
Deadline: September 30, 2014
Eligibility: All U.S. high school students are eligible to enter the contest.
Requirements: Applicant must submit an unpublished poem with 20 lines or less.

SEWEC Scholarship
Sponsor: Southeastern Wisconsin Educational Consortium
Amount: $1,200
Deadline: September 30, 2014
Eligibility: Applicant must be at least 24 years of age and admitted as a new student to an undergraduate or graduate degree program at a SEWEC member institution.
Requirements: Applicant must submit online form and an essay of no more than 500 words.

Shout It Out Scholarship
Sponsor: ScholarshipExperts.com
Amount: $1,500
Deadline: September 30, 2014
Eligibility: Applicant must have a ScholarshipExperts.com account. Applicant must also be 13 years of age or older and be a legal resident of the 50 United States or the District of Columbia. Applicant must current be enrolled (or enroll no later than the fall of 2020) in an accredited post-secondary institution of higher education.
Requirements: Applicant must submit an online short written response (250 words or less) to a question.

Siemens Competition in Math, Science & Technology Scholarship Awards
Sponsor: Siemens Foundation
Amount: Up to $100,000
Deadline: September 30, 2014
Eligibility: The competition is open to high school students who are citizens or permanent residents of the United States. Students must be a high school student in good academic standing.
Requirements: Applicant must undertake an individual or team research project related to math, science, and/or technology.

Xerox Technical Minority Scholarship
Sponsor: Xerox
Amount: $1,000 – $10,000
Deadline: September 30, 2014
Eligibility: Applicant must be a minority full-time student enrolled in a four-year institution with a B average or better.
Requirements: Applicant must submit completed application and resume.
