There are thousands of scholarships out there. Some are large scholarships that are well publicized, while others are lesser known. My goal is to share some lesser-known scholarships with my readers every Saturday.

Here are your scholarships for Saturday, August 9, 2014

CoachUp Scholarship
Sponsor: CoachUp
Amount: $2,000 + $500 in private coaching
Deadline: August 10, 2014
Eligibility: Applicants must be a senior in high school with plans to attend college in the fall, or applicants must be a college student with at least one year left of college. There is no age limitation. Applicant does not need to be currently participating in sports, but must have participated in sports sometimes during their high school education.
Requirements: Applicant must submit a completed application, a reference, a 500 word essay and a one minute video.

Varsity Tutors $1,000 Scholarship
Sponsor: Varsity Tutors
Amount: $1,000
Deadline: August 15, 2014 (Scholarship is offered monthly)
Eligibility: Scholarship is limited to individuals who are at least 16 years. Applicants must be a legal residence of one of the fifty United States or the District of Columbia.
Requirements: Write an essay between 200 and 900 words and then promote entry on social media.

Race Entry Student Scholarship
Sponsor: Race Entry LLC
Amount: $500
Deadline: August 15, 2014
Eligibility: Participants must be able to verify enrollment for college at an accredited university inside the USA during the fall semester of the same year as entry. Student must have participated in an organized race (5K, 10K, half marathon, marathon, etc.)
Requirements: Provide an essay sharing your race story between 1,000 and 2,000 words in length.

A.E. Robert Friedman PDCA Scholarship
Sponsor: Painting and Decorating Contractors of America (PDCA)
Amount: $1,500
Deadline: August 20, 2014
Eligibility: Candidates must be nominated by an active PDCA member in good standing. Nominations must be made in writing. Candidate must be at least in the senior year of high school, but no more than 26 years of age.
Requirements: Applicant must submit completed application, transcripts and letter of recommendation.

Barbara Rhomberg Excellence in Nursing Scholarship
Sponsor: B4 Brands
Amount: $1,000
Deadline: August 31, 2014
Eligibility: Applicants must be enrolled in a fulltime undergraduate nursing program working towards and associates or bachelor’s degree. Applicant must be a non-traditional student, defined as a student that did not immediately continue their education after high school (at least a 3-year gap between high school and enrollment in a college or university).
Requirements: Applicant must submit completed application form, typed essay , two letters of recommendation and enrollment verification form.

Lexington Law Scholarship
Sponsor: Lexington Law
Amount: $10,000
Deadline: August 31, 2014
Eligibility: Any current, full-time student of an accredited US university or college with a cumulative GPA of at least 2.5 is welcome to apply. There is no age requirement.
Requirements: Applicant must write an essay of no fewer than 800 words about credit scores. Applicants are also encourage to submit videos, but not required.

MoolahSPOT $1,000 Scholarship
Sponsor: MoolahSPOT
Amount: $1,000
Deadline: August 31, 2014
Eligibility: Any student at least 16 years or older who plans to attend, or is currently attending, college or graduate school are eligible.
Requirements: Applicant must fill out short online form and submit a short essay of 400 words or less.

Scholarship Detective Launch Scholarship

Amount: $1,500
Deadline: August 31, 2014
Eligibility: Scholarship is open to any current student who is a permanent resident of the United States.
Requirements: Applicant must fill out short online application and describe how you will use the scholarship in 140 characters or less.

Copeland Scholarship
Sponsor: United States Association for Blind Athletes (USABA)
Amount: $500 (2 scholarship – 1 male & 1 female)
Deadline: September 1, 2014
Eligibility: Scholarship is open to current USABA members who are legally blind and enrolling/enrolled at a two-year or four-year college, technical institution or university as a full-time student. Applicant must have participated in USABA sports programs and must be a U.S. citizen.
Requirements: Applicant must submit a cover letter and transcripts.

Creative Outlook Art Contest
Sponsor: Townsend Communications, Inc.
Amount: $250 – 3 Awards
Deadline: September 1, 2014
Eligibility: Contest is open to current college and high school students.
Requirements: Entrant must submit original artwork and share on social media.

Eligibility: Applicants must be U.S. citizens or permanent residents of the United States. Applicants must be enrolled full-time during the 2014-15 academic year in good academic standing at an accredited two-year or four-year college or university or in an accredited graduate school program.
Requirements: Create a 500 to 700 word blog post about the given topic.

National Amateur Baseball Federation Scholarship
Sponsor: National Amateur Baseball Federation (NABF)
Amount: $1,000
Deadline: September 1, 2014
Eligibility: Applicants must be enrolled in an accredited college or university and be in good standing. Applicant must be a current participant in a league properly sanctioned and sponsored by a National Amateur Baseball Federation member association.
Requirements: Applicant must submit proof of enrollment, transcript of high school or college grades (if already enrolled), two letters of recommendation, letter detailing required information and application signed by the President of local NABF Franchised League.

To Be Heard Scholarship Slam
Sponsor: Power Poetry
Amount: $1,000
Deadline: September 8, 2014
Eligibility: Applicant must be 25 years of age or younger and a current or former high school student who will attend/is attending college within the U.S. or its territories.
Requirements: Applicant must register with the community and add an original poem to Power Poetry.

Haiku Scholarship Contest
Sponsor: Direct Textbooks, Inc
Amount: $500 – 6 Awards
Deadline: September 11, 2014
Eligibility: Applicant must be a high school graduate, currently enrolled in an accredited two or four year college or university for Fall 2014, a legal resident of the United States and most recently GPA is 2.0 or higher.
Requirements: Applicant must fill out short form and submit an original haiku poem that captures the essence of what the word “reflection” means to you.

Clifford H. “Ted” Rees, Jr. Scholarship
Sponsor: Clifford H. “Ted” Rees, Jr. Scholarship Foundation
Amount: $2,000
Deadline: September 15, 2014
Eligibility: Applicant must be enrolled in an HVACR training program at an accredited school. Candidates must be U.S. citizens or national or resident alien.
Requirements: Applicant must submit completed application, two letters or recommendation, essay of no more than 500 words and official transcripts.

Amount: $1,000 – 3 Awards
Deadline: September 15, 2014
Eligibility: Scholarship is open to incoming college freshmen.
Requirements: Must sign up or be a member with Chegg/Zinch.com

Scholar Smackdown
Sponsor: Unigo Group
Amount: $5,000 – 2 Awards
Deadline: September 15, 2014
Eligibility: Open to students enrolled at 50 selected colleges, representing 25 rivalries. Student must have an official campus email address.
Requirements: Click as many times as he or she can and/or wants to in order to ring up higher tallies of clicks for the chosen school. Each click counts as an entry in the scholarship contest pool.

Thomas “Sarge” Johnson Scholarship Program
Sponsor: USA Boxing Foundation
Amount: Up to 3,000 – 11 total scholarships awarded
Deadline: September 15, 2014
Eligibility: Applicant must be a U.S. citizen having already completed at least one semester of post-secondary education. Applicant must have a GPA of 2.0 or higher and be a current USA Boxing member.
Requirements: Must submit completed application, copy of passbook, letter of recommendation from coach, letter of recommendation from someone other than family, college transcripts, FAFSA information and copy of birth certificate.
