Many students and their parents worry about the cost of a college education. College is a huge investment, and the cost of attendance across the country continues to go up. One way to start lowering the cost of a college education is to look for and apply for scholarships.

There are thousands of scholarships out there. Some are large scholarships that are well publicized, while others are lesser known. My goal is to share some lesser-known scholarships with my readers every Saturday.

Here are your scholarships for Saturday, June 28, 2014

Future Business Leader Scholarship Award

Eligibility: Open to legal residents of the United States who are 18 years of age or older as of the date of enrollment at his of her educational institution and who are attending a college or other post-secondary educational institution on a full-time basis.
Requirements: Provide basis personal information and a 300-500 essay telling them about “a time you provided excellent customer service and the benefit provided to the business, or, a time in which you received excellent customer service and how that affected your view of the business.”

Courage to Grow Scholarship

Deadline: June 30, 2014
Eligibility: You must be a junior or senior in high school or college student with a minimum GPA of 2.5 of better. You must also be a U.S. citizen.
Requirements: In 250 words or less tell them why you should be awarded the scholarship.

AfterCollege Scholarships

Deadline: June 30, 2014
Eligibility: Most scholarships are open to incoming freshmen and current undergraduate and graduate students. GPA requirements are different for each major – visit website for specific information.
Requirements: Each scholarship has different requirements. Check website for details.

$500 for College Scholarship

Eligibility: High school seniors or current full-time undergraduate or graduate students at an accredited college or university in the U.S., and a U.S. citizens or legal permanent residents.
Requirements: Post interesting content onto their website – anything that you or others might find interesting.

Lift Parts Express Scholarship

Amount: $500
Deadline: June 30, 2014
Eligibility: Students must be between the ages of 16-21, attending school in the fall, U.S. or Canadian citizens and 3.0 GPA or higher.
Requirements: Provide simple personal information and submit essay (no word limit). Essay is asking how much you expect to spend to finish your schooling, how you intend to pay for your schooling, and what you expect your job to be once you are finished with your schooling.

“No Essay” College Scholarship

Eligibility: Open to all high school, college, and graduate students and those planning to enroll within 12 months. Applicant must be legal resident of the United States. International students with valid visas are also eligible.

Admittedly “Improve Your Chances” Scholarship

Eligibility: Open to all high school students and college students, and those planning to enroll within 12 months and must be a legal resident of the United States. International students with valid student visas are also eligible.

Student of the Month Scholarship

Deadline: June 30, 2014
Eligibility: Open to legal residents of the 50 United States and the District of Columbia who are 18 years of age or older and currently enrolled at, or graduated from an accredited college or university in the United States.
Requirements: Create or be a member of Degreed.com, fill out a short application and tell them about your passion and how you plan to use your education to change your world.

Fastweb Refer a Friend Sweepstakes

Eligibility: Open to registered members of Fastweb members who are legal residents of the 50 United States and the District of Columba, and who are at least thirteen (13) years of age.

Minority Scholarship Award for College Students
Sponsor: American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChE)
Amount: Ten $1,000 Scholarships
Deadline: July 1, 2014
Eligibility: Applicants must be undergraduates in chemical engineering during the 2014-2015 academic year and be members of a minority group that is under-represented in chemical engineering.
Requirements: Completed application, career essay not to exceed 300 words, unofficial copy of student transcript, letter indicating that the student is eligible for financial aid based on their records or, provide FAFSA letter/documentation of eligibility for financial aid, letter of recommendation from the AIChE student chapter advisor, department chair, or chemical engineering faculty member.

National Federation of Paralegal Associations Thomas Reuters Scholarship

Eligibility: Applicant must be enrolled in or accepted to an accredited paralegal education program or college level program with an emphasis in paralegal studies.
Requirements: Completed application, letter of recommendation, current official transcript and essay. Four copies of everything must be mailed to scholarship committee.

Frank J. Richter Scholarship
Sponsor: American Association of Railroad Superintendents (AARS)
Amount: $1,000
Deadline: July 1, 2014
Eligibility: Applicant must be enrolled at the time of application as a full-time undergraduate or graduate student at an accredited college or university, demonstrate successful completion of the previous year’s study by maintaining at least a 2.75 accumulated GPA, and accumulate enough credits from accredited school(s) in time for the Fall Semester to have obtained at least a sophomore level standing.
Requirements: Completed application, official transcript and two letters of recommendation.

Writing Contest

Eligibility: Current high school senior, undergraduate or graduate student attending an accredited college or private career school who will be continuing their course of studies in the fall of 2014, 18 years of age or older and a U.S. citizen or holder of a valid and current U.S. Visa.
Requirements: Provide an essay that is between 1,250-1,500 words based on the theme: “Why do you think people are fascinated with the supernatural?”

Migrant Farmworker Baccalaureate Scholarship

Amount: $2,000
Deadline: July 1, 2014
Eligibility: Recent history of movement for agricultural employment, scholastic achievement, financial need and successful completion of at least one year at an accredited post-secondary institution.
Requirements: Application must provide completed application, three letters of recommendation, a personal essay, college transcript financial need documentation and copy of current or most recent Migrant Education Certificate of Eligibility.

CBCF Environmental Studies Scholarship
Sponsor: Congressional Black Caucus Foundation
Amount: $5,000 – 2 scholarships
Deadline: July 3, 2014
Eligibility: Applicants must be U.S. citizen or legal U.S. resident, currently enrolled as a full-time undergraduate student at an accredited four-year college or university in the U.S., have a minimum GPA of 3.0, must be a college junior or senior during the upcoming academic year, pursuing a degree in a subject that will lead to an environmental career and exhibit leadership ability and participate in community service activities.
Requirements: Completed application, personal statement essay, two letters of recommendation, copy of the Federal Student Aid Report, official transcript, resume and recent photograph.

$1,000 Safe Driver Scholarship

Eligibility: Applicant will need to complete a safe driver program (information listed on website – some programs are free), current college student or anyone planning on attending college in the upcoming school year and have a valid drivers license.
Requirements: Participate in one of the Safe Driver Programs and create a form of social awareness that inspires other students to focus on safe driving (video, artwork, essay or anything else that would engage other students to focus on safe driving.
